  • I feel like everyone should know that ridiculous prototype tanks or just generally unconventional vehicles are my shtick by this point. If it's wildly impractical, I'm here for it. Gaijin have already added plenty of tanks like that into War Thunder, but a few more couldn't hurt, right? I've already talked about a few like the ELC EVEN 30, CAT/LCV, and Object 287, but I still have a few more that I would like to cover.

The Danish M41DK (China basically got this recently though) is an M41 but modernized with APFSDS, laser rangefinder and thermals. The NM-116 is a modernized Norwegian Chaffee with the gun from an AML-90, a laser rangefinder and thermals. I wouldn't really call those two dumb but if you want something meme worthy then there's the Pansarvärnspjästerrängbil 1111 which is a Swedish jeep with the gun from an IKV-91 and could alternatively mount an RBS 56 ATGM launcher.

    Same reason why Italy kind of gets joint tree with Romania(even if they are all premiums)? Tbh they should rename italian tree into joint one and fully add Romania and Hungary in there. Toldi III can replace or get added near to M3/5, Turan III can cover the performance hole right after P26/40, Nimrod can cover the the hole in SPAAG performance and allow to move R3 up, TAS M.44 can either replace early M4 or be placed alongside/above it in the tree. Meanwhile Romania can add new reserve or 1.3(1.7?) tank(R35 with soviet 45mm) and a couple of fast SPGs(TACAM 1, 2, two Maresal variants). There are also possible rocket vehicles of Hungary - rocket(200mm penetration) equipped tank hunter variant of Toldi and the one with same rockets on track chassis.
    But that is very unlikely as France and Italy are doomed to suffer:(

    Have you heard of the Belgian ACEC Cobra? It was a Belgian prototype family, a bit like the cvr(t)'s. There were APC's with machineguns on top, but also a 25mm autocannon scout variant and a 90mm light tank variant. The tracks are made from rubber so they are reasonably silent. They had a diesel generator and electric drive (like the Porsche tiger). The APC variants where supposed to be amphibious, but they made the crew seasick. In the tankmuseum where I volunteer (gunfire, Brasschaat Belgium), we have the 90mm variant (without gun sadly enough) and 3 of the APC's (although only one is on display). If you want to see the museum in action, plan it soon, they are gonna move the collection to Ypres in 2024 (yes the ww1 Ypres), where the volunteers won't be able to restore them anymore so the collection will grow static. Some Tanks Japan Desperately needs:
    Type 1 Ho-Ni II: A Variant of the Ho-Ni Mounting a Type 91 105mm Field Howitzer, very similar to the French Canon de 105 mle 1913 Schneider design. It would have superior penetration to the Ho-Ni I and III. 54 units were produced starting with a prototype in 1942 and most of the production being during the 1943 period. None saw service due to them being retained for the defense of the home islands. I would put it at 4.7-5.0BR as at 500 yards it could penetrate 203mm of armor plate, but the chassis of the Ho-Ni combined with no armor would make it hard to play.
    Type 2 Ke-To: A development of the Ha-Go Light Tank featuring the Type 1 37mm gun of the amphibious Ka-Mi while retaining the same speed, low profile and armor of the Ke-Ni. 34 tanks were produced in 1944-1945, but were never deployed before the war ended as they were relegated to defense of the home islands. I would put this at BR 1.7 at rank 2 while the Ka-Mi would still be at BR 1.0 and the Ke-Ni Up-tiered to 1.3.
    Type 5 Ke-Ho: The Final Wartime development of the Ha-Go Light Tank with only the prototype being completed by the end of the war. The project was delayed due to lack of raw materials that had the priority diverted to the navy and naval air service for planes and ships. It featured the Chi-He and Chi-Ha Kai's 47mm gun. Max speed of 50kph with a weight of only 10 tons due to only 20mm of armor and thus had a HP-Ton Ratio of 15 as the engine was a 150HP Diesel. I would put this vehicle at BR 2.3 due to sharing the same gun as the Chi-He, but might want to uptier to 2.7, 3.0 or 3.3 due to the speed and low profile and be a viable vehicle to go with the Chi-Nu or Chi-Ha Long Gun.
    Ka-To: Little is known about this prototype SPG. Sources conflict on the chassis of the anti-tank vehicle on whether it was the Chi-To or Chi-Ri, but they agree that it would be mounted in an open top design similar to the Na-To. The Chi-To was mentioned more often in the archives though with the same engine and transmission expected to have been used due to the limited situation of raw materials in Japan. Two versions of the 105mm main guns and possibly the prototype hull was completed in 1945, shortly before the war ended. It is possible they ended up being mounted in the two Ho-Ri Prototypes which are currently in game. If added I would put it at 6.3 BR. I would also put the Ho-Ri Production at 6.7. There is no reason for it to be in the 7.0 bracket due to the HEAT-FS and APDS spam at this BR.
    The Mi-To Prototype: This is the mild steel prototype of the O-I Superheavy tank originally designated Mi-To or Mitsubishi-Tokyo. It was expected to have the Type 92 105mm field howitzer mounted (which is the one that was fitted to this prototype), but later in the project cycle it was decided to mount some sort of 150mm field howitzer onto it which was never fitted. Frontal protection was slated to be 200mm, 35-75mm on the sides and 150mm in the rear and a second turret of 47mm was also used. The mild steel prototype had armor at 150mm at the front and rear while the sides were about 50mm between two plates (25mm each at the hull proper and over the tracks). The prototype only had two sub turrets. One in the front with space for another to it's side covered up for a 47mm gun and the rear turret with two 7.7mm MGs. Only the mild steel prototype was built before the war ended and was said to have been to trials in 1943. The engines were two Chi-Ri Engines, with about 1000hp between both of them and a maximum speed theoretically being 25kph. The Tonnage of the tank was rated between 100-120 tons. The tank project was cancelled due to material shortages and due to impracticality after the initial 1943 trials in 1944. I would put this tank at BR 6.3 due to the frontal protection alone.
    O-I Superheavy: This would be the production model O-I of the project at the end of the development cycle when it was terminated. The only difference between it and the Mi-To is the full 200mm frontal hull armor, the 35mm side armor plus spaced armor over the tracks at about 75mm, the change of gun to the 150mm Howitzer, judging by the plans it may be a variant of the Type 96 15cm Howitzer. It also would have three sub turrets instead of two of the prototype. Two 47mm armed ones in the front and the rear turret with dual 7.7mm machine guns. I would put this vehicle at BR 6.7 due to the fact that side protection is flat and vulnerable.

    Have you ever heard of the M113 Saladin? It seems to be a pretty obscure variant of an M113 with an enclosed turret and low velocity gun to be used for fire support around the time of the Vietnam War

    • @PoorFoxface
      @PoorFoxface Před 2 lety

      Ah, what you're talking about is the Australian M113A1 FSV (Fire Support Vehicle). It was an M113A1 (diesel engined M113) fitted with the turret from the British FV601 Saladin armoured car as an infantry fire support vehicle. Later, the Australians did the same thing with turrets from the FV101 Scorpion, producing the M113A1 MRV (Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle). The major factor in how suitable these M113s would be for the game (and the Saladin and Scorpion) is the performance of the gun, since these 76mm howitzers only had one anti-tank round: HESH. Most estimates are somewhere in the 80mm+ penetration range, though Janes gives a figure of 90mm penetration. Most early Soviet MBTs have exactly 80mms of hull side armour, and so do the Tiger IIs, so if the HESH can get a few mms more than that, all the vehicles with that gun should be pretty good. It would be able to go through Panther hull fronts, too, but mostly they'd have to go for side shots (hardly unusual for light vehicles). Provided the gun is actually usable, the M113A1 FSV and MRV would be great meme tanks.

    Since the april fool events are some sort of test environment I'm pretty sure these type of ATGMs are coming in the future, but I think we won't get the Puma IFV so the Pandur II would be a viable platform.

    How about the Schofield mk2 prototype? The only practical tank design from New Zealand? It could use tracks or run on tires fit faster top speed, which could be a researchable mod simlar to the vfw’s side armour. It had a 2 pounder a machine gun and light armour. Could be br 2.0 and would give NZ a tank in the game 😀🇳🇿

    • @PoorFoxface
      @PoorFoxface Před 2 lety +1

      The Schofield is a wonderful tank and I'd love to see it. If they did add it with the wheel/track options, that would also open the door for all the BT series tanks getting the same option, since pretty much all Christie suspension tanks were designed to be able to drive trackless on just their roadwheels. Obviously, the Schofield would be better than them since it has actual tyres, but it would be neat for the BTs to get it too. Of course, the switch between wheels and tracks could be made from inside the Schofield IIRC, so they could also implement it using the hydropneumatic suspension controls to raise and lower the wheels. It's such an underrated tank, I'd love to see it sometime.
