The Reagans were not the first presidential couple Sarah Vaughan sang for. Decades earlier, Sarah Vaughan was found crying softly in the "green room" just prior to her White House command performance for President Lyndon Johnson. When asked what the matter was, she replied, "I remember the first time I performed here in 1956 [Eisenhower], I had to enter the White House through the service entrance in the back. This time, I was allowed to enter the White House through the front."

She looks so beautiful in that lavender gown.incredible...incredible experience!!Her singing is an experience for me.she also played piano, drums, cello, guitar...probably more instruments.oh, yes, her voice was her instrument.Thank you Sassy! We miss your class& talent& integrity-esp now.🎶🎹😉🎶🎙
Kind of touching seeing Nancy Reagan at some point being such a fangirl as I am an absolute devotee over SARAH'S divine performance. And SARAH giving her love back to Nancy Reagan...
What a great video. Thank you so much for this gem. Brings back memories. One time during the 80's, I had the opportunity to hear Sarah Vaughan live at the Santa Barbara County Bowl, with the backing of the Santa Barbara Philharmonic. I had front row seats, in the orchestra pit. She was promoting her "Gershwin Live" CD. The night was magic. Her voice tremendous. One of those in-the-moment life events. Where you think you are the luckiest person in the world to be where you are. Right here. Right now.
For the first time ever I can feel some tension in her voice 😂 while she’s my favourite female vocalist, I think I finally get why a lot of people are more touched by Ella’s voice than Sassy’s. Sassy has a tendency to hide behind her flawless technique and goes “autopilot” on some occasions, especially she was asked to sing novelty songs rather than lush or delicate ballads with intricate harmonies. That’s how I feel it anyway. Ella’s voice is more flawed, but emotion pours out from those cracks at every turn, because she was invested in whatever she was singing. But only Sarah can make me feel like I’m in heaven.
I have everything she ever recorded beginning with her first recording session. She started out great and went from there. Her earliest recordings are among her best and they are easily found, including a great boxed set.
@Frank_Lee. Do you have her full live performance of "Someone To Watch Over Me" with the Philharmonic orchestra? I've been looking for it for years to no avail...
Hi Sava. I should have said I had everything 'commercially available' (with one exception AFAIAA). Is it the 'Wolf Trap' concert you're after? Happy hunting and keep up the Sarah love!
I was referring to her 1978 Concert with the Philharmonic during which she performed the Gershwin medley. Here's an excerpt of her Someone to watch over me: czcams.com/video/T7qzccyELvg/video.html And here (at the very beginning) she performs A Foggy Day In London Town during what appears to be the same night:czcams.com/video/cZkFQ3vc-Qc/video.html Would you happen to have this concert?
Thankfully got to see Sarah early 70's on too many times to count and always a thrilling experience, with Michael Tilton Thomas "Gershwin" night at Dorothy Chandler was amazing, same venue with Michel LeGrand another incredible night to remember, small venue nights like The Troubadour in West Hollywood with Sassy were phenomenal, the lady could really sing!
Nothing like hearing Extraordinary Music from such a Divine, Extraordinary Musician/Singer. Could have done without "Strike Up the Band" and "Swanee." But I always say: Know your audience and where possible, adjust the Program to the audience.
@@piustwelfth I know who Ronald was - an actor, the governor of California and a RACIST. Some of the lyrics of Swanee are especially cringeworthy in this setting.
This is not a simple singer... This is a complete musician, a composer in act
She is the greatest of all the jazz singers.beautiful voice.
Wow. Sarah was truly a unique talent. I am sure the audience realised they were in the presence of royalty.
A wonderful performance by a master. I watched it when it was broadcast and it made me fall in love with her.
For those of is who grew up listening to Sarah Vaughn and watching her in concert werent we lucky?
Yes. We were.
Saw Sarah at the Blue Note in New York City! Never forget it.
I wish I had the time machine to be part of the club ❤️
We sure were, and the great Billy Eckstein, too.
BLESSED AND THANKFUL ARE WE

Sass with Harold Jones drums, Andy Simpkins bass and George Gaffney piano, a stellar trio!

Hi is there anyway I can get into contact with you about ordering some of Sarah‘s recordings

Breathtaking and beautiful voice of an angel ❤ ❤!
She was so effortlessly classy.

Beautiful
I wish a I had been a personal friend to Mr Reagan... at least of that memorable night!!! Paris is worth a Mass !!!
Lovely, lovely ...lovely Sarah..
The best.
Thank you Dennis!!! I love so much Sassy!!!!!

Did you personally collect it or is it available somewhere online for all to purchase?
Snap! I'm pretty sure there are no gaps in my collection either.

Yes she was the epitome of a songstress. And such an understandingof rhythm😍
Самое интересное , слушаешь с удовольствием ! СПАСИБО!👏👏👏👏💘
There's a reason she was known as The Divine One...
That Latin rhythm used on fascinating rhythm is one of the sickest things I've heard.
Nancy Reagan's fave singer as well as mine
The Divine. Mon coeur bat plus vite dès que je l'entends.
Je suis bien d'accord, ce n'est plus un coeur qui bat c'est la vie qui passe...

Nice choice Regans…………………….very talented vocalist.
About the only good choice they ever did during their awful administration......
@@theogoldberg8919 not sure what u recall about their administration but I remember wonderful times
I heard some right wing nuts called for Reagan's likeness to be enshrined on Mount Rushmore. Sarah would get my vote.
you can add the trio with her. Had the honor of working with George Gaffney. Great player.
You appear to be a left-wing nut.
I wonder WHO chose song selection😞
Suellrcvehrtude
For the Reagans? I wish she would have dropped Swanee and its D-I-X-I-E glorification from the medley.
For the American people. Ronald Reagan was Pres. of the United States of America.

@@TruthSerum101Of course, you offer ZERO evidence that Ronald Reagan was a racist. That's because you have NONE. Put up or shut up!
Oh please. This is ART.
@@dddddadadad1796 "Art" is not above criticism, and in certain contexts, can be toxic. I cringed. F your art.
Unfortunate, given what we know now about Ronald Reagan that she had to perform there during his administration.
You win the award for most idiotic comment of the decade.
SARAH was above all this. She sang for every single human being on that planet and beyond !!!!
What do we know about Reagan? Bc what I know is that he was an excellent president with a heart of gold
