The great Julie Andrews is magnificent! What can I say about her voice that has not been said before? Pure and glorious. Her rendition of those wonderful Gershwin songs is impeccable, touching, extraordinary. The grand finale is a thrill - Porgy and Bess has never had a more charismatic performe she gives it all.. What she does in "I Love You, Porgy" is simply awesome. Julie Andrews is a treasure.

Gershwin was suppose to be the next album in the Julie Andrews Broadway series on Philips back in the mid-90's. Her botched vocal surgery tragically ended her singing career and this incredible Broadway series. I'd make a safe bet this medley contained the songs and the arrangements intended for that album and what we would have heard.
Smart observation and I agree. To think what a great album that would have been, the arrangements lying somewhere along with the contract gathering dust. Having said that she did to a similar medley for her 1980 concert tour of Japan as well. Someone had posted it online then took it off immediately. She sang the same songs, but in a higher normal key for her.

Maureen McGovern has a whole Gershwin concert that is divine.
The orchestra is called NHK symphony orchestra in Tokyo Japan.( I personally knew a few musicians who used to belong to it. They are retired now though)
This video is actually part of the concert entitled "the Sound of Orchestra" held at NHK Symphony Hall, Japan on August 1993.
She did a version for PBS, too. Same dress. 🙂

This Gershwin melody was not so good.
This melody was sung by Julie in 1980 Japan cocert tuor.
Last high voice was so wonderful.
But Judy, must we turn Swanie into an opera or torch song? sheesh....

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that, but I don't think Andrews can sing Gershwin at all. I didn't like any of that.
