PSA 1.2 Puretech Engine Cambelt change. How to change your Wet Timing belt Step-by-step.

  • The PSA 1.2 puretech engine is fitted to many vehicles. Mainly Peugeot, Citroen and fords.
It has what is known as a Wet Timing belt, meaning the belt is driven internally, not externally as more common place. Meaning it is encased and lubricated in engine oil.
This a relatively new new method used by vehicle manufacturers. The idea being it should last longer. You can judge for yourself after watching this video.
In this Video I will show you how to change/replace the 1.2 puretech timing/cam Belt in a step by step tutorial.
This cam belt has only covered 40k and is 5 years old. You can see the deterioration!
everything you need is available by next day delivery in most cases following the this link. tidd.ly/3CRO8dz

The problem is the Dayco belt that comes with it. Dayco has issued recalls for PSA, VW, Ford and a few other brands. They also state that using the exact same oil is very important in preventing the issue and that after replacing the belt you should be good for another 100000 miles.
The new Puretech from 2022 did away with the belt and runs on chain

My 2016 Peugeot 308 belt had deteriorated by 39k miles. Just had it changed this week by dealer. Sump came off, a few seals replaced, e-brake cleaned, water pump belt replaced. 50% goodwill cost covered by Peugeot. New oil is HelixUltra 0w20. Got lucky caught it in time.

Tried again after a few checks, it went into limp mode still ticking over, turned it off. No faults show from obd2 port although a message on the car’s screen said low oil pressure. I tried once more it wouldn’t start and it sounded like there was no pressure, or the belt had snapped. Took it apart today belt is ok although it is riding to far right on the cam phasers and to far left or forward on the crank sprocket. It’s almost coming off the crank. (Could to much tension on the belt do that) one more thing (sorry) with the crank in the same position as in your video ie 9 o’clock my cam marks are at 8 o’clock instead of 5 o’clock. We had same problems only 3 days after picking up our C3 aircross with a 70 plate and low mileage. Oil light started to flash. We had to turn off/on engine twice every time to stop it flashing. Then a few days later, the fix spanner light came on and 'top up oil' appeared on screen as well as the flashing oil light. Before this happened we had already checked oil and it was full.
Then all these warning lights suddenly disappeared starting the day just before we took it back to Stellatis dealer. Typical!! Anyway, told by dealer that it needs about 2 weeks to investigate/fix and we were given a courtesy car. After a week we were told that 90% it will need the timing belt to be replaced. But then the next day they said it doesn't need the belt replacement anymore and they have changed a few things like the oil plug/filter/sensor. We are now dreading of getting the car back and then more problems. We have completely lost our faith in Citroen/Peugeot. Will definitely keep away from them after getting rid of this one. Disgusting!!!!!!!

I would never buy any car that's got a wet belt its a stupid idea . I used to like the pinto engines. You could change the belt yourself in less than an hour and with the 2.0 litre engine they were non interference so if it snapped as mine did it caused no damage to the engine.

You started with a turbo engine and then changed to a non turbo
The cam holding kit is different on each. You removed the brake servo pump to install the locking kit and then later showed the cam locking kit on a normal aspirated engine
Also you dont have to remove the fuel pump or fuel rail on either.
I have done loads of these as it's my job so I know what I am talking about
Uploading a video doing a wet belton 2 different engines is misleading

Ford's ecoboost engine also has wet belt.
Other than that, such a small engine with direct injection and turbo wont have a very long life. Best engine would be one of at least 1.4-1.6L with indirect injection, no turbo and normal timing belt (which is cheap to replace).
