- This week I had the opportunity to photograph the Grand Canyon while I was in Arizona. We drove up just before sunrise to catch it right at the moment the sun came up - amazing experience.

I missed the part where you talked about how to photograph the grand canyon. Got a bunch of add info on your friends, but still don't know how.
Agreed, watched the full video and no info on how to photograph the GC.
soo, it's supposed to be a how-to video, but I didn't learn anything about how to photograph the canyon. It was just a vlog about how you visited the place and your thoughts about it. Would have been great to actually see some tips, ideas, locations, camera settings, etc.
You need to do the North Rim sometime. It's even more outstanding, although much more difficult to photograph. The Alpine meadows on the road in to the main site are magnificent! Aspens and pines everywhere. September or October is the best time for the North Rim in my opinion.
Can you tell me the specific song on Epidemic Sound that you used on the video please? I share your love and awe for the Grand Canyon.
Great music and very cool photographic adventure.
Enjoying your work, Ted. Looks like a great trip to the GC.
The Grand Canyon is amazing, saw it as a teenager, when my Mother and a small group went cross country, from Brooklyn, NY to California and back via a Dodge Dart pulling a trailer. The colors of the Canyon is unbelievable and we were only armed with a 8mm movie camera and a instamatic camera, which I have had digitally formatted. I gave myself an assignment, My 8MM Project, creating mini movies from these home movies.....your video brought back a flood of memories of that trip. Hope to see more of your trips.
Got to the North Rim about a decade ago. [I think it is not accessible in winter.] Highly recommend this as the crowd factor is significantly reduced. Your video reminded me its time to get back. Thanks!
Yes! The Grand Canyon is amazing! To really experience it.... You have to get down into the Canyon for a week or longer!
Such beauty in Arizona. Thank you for sharing.
Love this so much Ted!!! Wow. Taking photos with a Phase One in Grand Canyon must have been absolutely surreal!
Thanks Chris! It was a fun time… to short though!
Ted, so glad you had an opportunity to visit and photograph the Canyon. As you said, being there, seeing and experiencing it in person is a truly spiritual experience.
I recommend you add a River trip through the Canyon to your bucket list. When you go, check out Adam Scallau's guided trips for photographers. Adam is a fantastic Flagstaff landscape photographer and has, in recent years, started offering a guided River trip through the Canyon for photographers. Adam's a great guy and I'm sure you'd love the experience.
Of course, something like that is a significant time commitment. It your next visit is limited to just a few days on the North or South Rim - perhaps some day hiking part way into the canyon - let me know and I'll be happy to share with you some of my favorite photographic spots.
Enjoy the Holidays!
In 1972, aged 14, I visited the Grand Canyon and you have expressed in this video exactly how I felt when I stood on the rim and looked out over the canyon. It is totally breathtaking! As a vista I don't think I have seen or experienced anything like it since. Ted, thanks for stiring up a happy and awesome memory!!
Great video Ted! So glad we were able to go shoot The Grand Canyon together. 9 degrees Fahrenheit first thing in the morning is pretty chilly, but it was such a magical experience to be there at first light, it didn't matter how cold it was. Next trip, we're going to Yosemite! See you soon!
If you do go back, plan ahead and hike the north rim to the south rim. You can stay at phantom ranch but plan ahead as reservations are hard to make and a year out, usually. Anyway, the sights you will see will be awe inspiring. As I was crossing the suspension bridge, leaving phantom ranch, we were blessed with a double rainbow over the Clolorado River. Amazing! We hiked it in October and it was perfect, other than the rain that was pelting us on the way up. That didn’t even spoil the experience. Please treat yourself to this remarkable trek.
This is a great time to visit the Park ‘cuz fewer people. The day/night temp differential can be extreme, so being prepared for it is a must.
Watching from Terrassa , Spain , near Barcelona. Enjoying your videos. Learning quite much. Thanks,
Look forward to see more about your palladium printing - its something I hope to get into. And beautiful footage of the grand canyon.
Saw so much on the instagram story the final product looks great
As well a photography I like music, so can you say what the music is that's playing while you're at the Grand Canyon
What a great experience!
Nice video. Inspiring! Keep up the good work.
I was there for the first time this past Thanksgiving weekend. I was blown away at the sheer cliffs right on the rim trail and at the lookout points. Looks like you were setup at Mather Point? I will say...unlike you, the cloud gods favored me during my visit a few weeks ago.
Even a bad photo of the Grand Canyon takes my breath away, the experience is that powerful. You did pretty good for the first exposure and a one time visit. I still haven't seen any single image that really sums it up. For a quick assignment, we could share our images with you to show what we've done with the challenge.
Great video - I have to get there!
i live 1 hour east of the grand canyon on the reservation ... there are other amazing other areas away from the tourist spots ...
Pixels deeper than the deepest canyons.
SOOO cool man! Absolutely love the sunset shots. 👍👍
LOVE THE DEEPER PIXELS JACKET TOO! Do they make kids sizes?
you had me a t Deeper Pixels!! LOL such a good running joke.
I made the trip to the Grand Canyon this year for 3 days. You are completely right it is a spiritual experience. Worth seeing and super fun to photograph.
Ted, I'm curious why you had the WCC kit on your camera at that time of the day and for that subject matter? Which filters did you have on it? Thanks.
Circular polarizer and a grad filter to darken the sky on some shots.
Ted- one of your best videos. The Grand Canyon is truly humbling. I hope you can fit in a NYC meeting & greet ( coffee is on me!)
I've only hiked down to Phantom Ranch on Kaibab trail and back up on Bright Angel trail. Based on that, Ooh Aah Point is the best by far, but I really recommend staying at Phantom Ranch and walk up the WPA-built path through the Box to Ribbon Falls. It's a good thing.
Great video! Know you are busy, but could you tell me the brand/model of your Rx100 gimbal?
Enjoying the content, great track over the Grand Canyon section, would like to see more " in the field" vlogs..;-)
Back in the day the "gear jacket" would be a Smock. Big pockets, everywhere!
Hi Ted, Love Love Love your channel. Each and every video. What's up? You look so happy and refreshed - 10 years younger. Not that you aren't always. Must have been the trip to Arizona. Good for you. Loved the video and the music was amazing. Talk all you want. Thank you for sharing yourself. Be happy some more!
I was out there last week. :)
Looks like you were shooting with the Phase I. Question there is: did you need this extra dynamic range or is it more or less wasted, because you used ND Filters?
Having seen a total eclipse for the first time this year I know what you mean by "until you have been there in person".
Yeah - hard to replicate the feeling…
I'm going to the Grand Canyon for the second time, next week. My first visit, in 2009, was the reason I finally bought a digital SLR. My Fuji all-in-one was pretty good for snap shooting. But once I saw my Grand Canyon images, I knew I'd never do the canyon justice with it. I've worked up to a 5DM4 with L lenses and Lee filters. I'm thinking Yaki Point would be a good spot for sunrise. Do you know exactly where you shot from? Thanks.
Looks like Medium Format Overload! a Phase and 'Blad together. Were you shooting both?
I am from Germany and visited the Grand Canyon two times. For me it is one of nature wonders on our Earth. Also magnificent are Monument Valley and Bryce Canyon, whose colors are their own work of art.
The "deeper pixels" running gag is still killing me..
Apple had no idea how much material they'd be handing me ;-)
Great video, Ted 👍🏼
great until you fall on ground ..camera bag is not only place to give your gear but too lot protect it and also sometimes you need to leave your gear somewhere for a time . But as a B or C option why not
Really cool video, I've been slowly getting into photography, and watching your videos (and other people's) has been teaching me a lot!
Also that song was really good o_O, what was the name of it?
Great video !
i want that Gibson cap
Ted, if you’re selling a t-shirt/mug/bumper sticker with “AOP” and “I have deeper pixels “ on it, I’ll be the first to order ;-)
I like your Jacket , how can i get one?
What gimbal do you use for your RX100v?
the deepness of those pixels were utterly bigly.
Yep. "Spiritual experience." Very happy for you. Great montage, too.
Ted, I purchased a jacket based on your recommendation and recently received it an I like the jacket but it doesn't fit and need to return it. I have sent 5 emails over the last 10 days without response to my problem. I hope they haven't folded.
So I did see you in Flagstaff the other day, totally should've trusted my gut it was you. The deeper pixels pocket protector threw me off.
Should have said hi! Maybe you’re in tomorrow’s video ;-)
Nice
Where can I buy this song
so... how do you photograph it?
"My name is Pixels, Deeper Pixels!" *SCNR* 😄😄😅
this video is deep! not sure if the pixels have something to do with it. You probably recorded the video with the apple/iphone pixel technology!
20 seconds of title-related content in a 10 min video...
DEEPER PIXELS!!!
geonerd My deep pixels are deeper than your shallow deep pixels!
Indeed
I really liked this video, and enjoyed Ted sharing his Grand Canyon experience with us. But I never found out what he meant by "Deeper Pixels", and I thought that was something that was going to be explained at some point. What are deep pixels??? I am still waiting to find out.
The title is kind of misleading,I think. I`d also say :too much form over content. The production is great ,but the content used to be better. A fan since 2011.
Where is how to and where is deep pixel?
The deepest of pixels
I was there and found it to be actually surprisingly boring. I feel as if the human brain isn't really capable of comprehending how absolutely huge that canyon is. It felt to me as if I was looking at an oversized postcard.
You video is titled, how to photograph the Grand Canyon. And there’s nothing in here about how to photograph the Grand Canyon!!!
I want that jacket!
Its seriously cool. Get one!
DEEPER pixels, That's what she said...
RRS tripod, plate.
its funny how i remember ted saying gear doesn't matter but dude using a phase one... tsk tsk tsk
Could you please slow down a little when you are talking. I´m no native spoken. I understand it, but would be easier if you only talked in normal speed.
Sad that this video is titled "HOW to Photograph the Grand Canyon" …. and you didn't talk about HOW. Bummed.
Ha ha...magnets as pocket zippers ...like the idea but is that going to prolong my time with that annoying custom lady at the airport ?
I've been through 8 airport security points in the last 2 months without any problems.
i think thats copyright infringement, the "deeper pixels" slogan belongs to apple.... ;0)
Not one piece of info on how to photograph the Grand Canyon.
whats your instagram?

Do. yourself a favor and hike or ride a mule down to the bottom. Take lots of time there is just all kind of places to shoot and never enough time.
Wake up sleepyhead ;)
It wasn't easy…
