    Raw talk 173 led me here, and I can't believe this only has 124k views. The amount of work that went into making this really shows in the quality of this production. It's too bad there's no episode 2.
    What an amazing experience this must have been. Thanks Jared and everyone who worked for it.

  • @beedubprep

    I think its great. Some of the dialogue feels forced though, doesn't feel as "candid" as some reality shows

    • @zLeeeO

      That's great.

    • @danielvining
      @danielvining Před 8 lety +12

      +beedubprep There was a dose of cornyness here and there, but overall this was a grand slam. I could really see this on the Travel Channel

    • @beedubprep
      @beedubprep Před 8 lety +3

      +Daniel Vining definitely. Once Jared gets in a good flow of telling meaningful stories along the way, it feels much more real and overall more fascinating

    • @beedubprep
      @beedubprep Před 8 lety +5

      I think what i was trying to say from the beginning was that it FEELS like they're "trying to be like a reality show" instead of just filming their own reality...in a show lol

    • @Razor2048
      @Razor2048 Před 8 lety +1

      +beedubprep It seems really good, and I like that ti does not get too candid, as shows that do it tend to have mostly non meaningful dialog (nothing really moving the show forward).
      So far in the show, the dialog is done in a way that is always either moving things forward, supplying interesting information (e.g., the camping experience), or in general, setting the "mood" of the show.

    Great Idea and big respect for trying out such a massive undertaking Jared! I really liked the concept of the whole thing, balancing geeky photography stuff with easy watching, travel documentary and stuff. Here´s my two cents of hopefully constructive enough criticism:
    1. The thing that really disturbed me was the scale of things and what you compared it to. 5 Jeeps, Tents, a freaking POTTY-tent? I would like to see you go to India with just a Leica and a cameraguy. keep it simple, keep it real, intensify the emotion and make it more of a documentary-like thing, telling it once it is over. you get the idea, I hope, so back to my point: It is such an american thing to do to seek out such a majestic place of solitude and power of the elements and then spoil it with a huge crew, lots of tech and so on. But for the love of god, then comparing THAT to the life of navajos in a hogan? that just left a bitter taste in my mouth. just pretentious. how to make it better? scale down, simplify, stick to the stuff you know best and love talking about, look into narration techniques and how to tell a story to get an honest, candid emotion across.
    2. those "ad-breaks". That´s just killing all the emotion, all the feel there is. That thing was made well enough to kick people´s curiosity. If it is as long as an hour or even 90 minutes, maybe one break in between, but also not that abrupt, but in 26 minutes? Before AND after? too much! get rid of it.
    3. get a narrator. get david attenborough. :-) You can´t be telling the story and being it´s main character at the same time, it felt anachronistic, even though I understand why you had to do it in that fashion. That would tie things together better and take attention away from you, making you all the more interesting at the same time if that makes sense at all.
    4. cutting: I would have liked to see more "cinema" in there, shots of the scene, details, pans, that sort of thing to insert some more atmosphere and relax the whole pace of it. it felt rushed from time to time, you´d wanna create the feel of investing time into the place and it´s people a bit more.
    5. color: some frames, event though very short, seemed a bit cold to me, especially in the beginning.
    6. there occasionally was someone talking without being heard. that was distracting. needs to be fixed.
    7. audio: choose that background music more carefully! Music does to the ears what photography does to the eyes and you should want to match the emotions of the scene with the music played there. it felt like you downloaded a couple of beats and put them in the background for the purpose of leading into the next scene only.
    forgive my harsh words but I know you won´t take it personal and improve where you agree, ignore the rest. peace!

    Wonderful 1st episode. I was literally hypnotized and couldn't look away until the end of it. I think you have a really great idea over here and it will be wonderful to see more episodes in the future.
    It not only talks about the photography itself but also allows you to somehow participate in the adventure of going to the special places and think about any preparations you must take in mind.
    The best part that I liked was the ending with you hanging the photos on the wall. it reminds me that the photos are for us to enjoy and not to keep them in digital formats at the bottom of our hard drives.

    +Jared Polin Very well done mate, hats off to all the BTS video crew, excellent work. It reminded me of the type of photography series BBC television commissioned in the early 1980's, same entertaining humour intermixed with just the right amount of photography content. Especially enjoyed that interview with the Navajo lady, it was respectful and of a perfect tone, she was absolutely perfect.

    Loved watching this, the stars photography was awesome, I bet the sky looked amazing just gazing up from where you were. And I'm sure there were some great landscape photos, other than the few we saw in the video. Looking forward to more episodes.

    I always get a kick when a City Slicker finally gets out into the world. It tends to make better humans out of them. ;)

    Damn. This was impressive. When I saw the tweet from you with the link, I was just planning on watching the first few minutes for now and saving the rest for later. 26 minutes later, I was looking at you hanging those absolutely stunning metallic prints. Nicely done. Would absolutely love to see more of this.
