Thank you so much for sharing your views on life in Italy. I am American who was stationed in Naples, Italy for 4 years. Southern Italy is very different than northern Italy. I too experienced the same ups and downs as you. I will ALWAYS have a deep fondness for Italy. It is a part of who I am now. The food, the people, the beaches, the noise of the city, the history, the culture are all AMAZING! I have so many items around my home today to constantly remind me of the life that I lived while I was there. I thank God everyday for those experiences. I'm always telling anyone (who will listen) that if you're going to Europe, you must visit Italy. But with all that beauty they're were some days where the (racist moments) too my breath away and made it a little hard to bear. My hope for Italy is that they don't stay so stuck on how "it's always been" that the world leaves them behind. Change is coming to all of us. I hope to see my old Italian neighborhood again and breathe in the Mediterranean air. To ride around the city on a moped and just for a moment try to forget the negative people who tried to kill my joy. Forever love Italy.

I love that you allowed yourself to enjoy the beauty that Italy has to offer amidst the chaos. That's what I do. Bless. X

(Italian from Friuli - a sadly conservative and right winged region - by many generations.)
So interesting to hear your perspective on living in Milan!
What you said about the education system is not related to the school your kids are: extracurricolar activities are something I learned the existence of only when I started looking at other countries's schools. I was also happy to hear that you haven't had any heavily racist experiences, although the further you go from big cities the less white Italians are used at seeing people of different color. And, as you said, Italians don't like big changes, they like to keep things traditional.

Thanks for your polite input. I really do hope that while preserving the culture, Italians open up more to rest of the world. We can't run away from globalisation.

Hi, I am Italian and I moved to the UK 12 years ago. My daughter was born in UK and she is going to the school in here as well. I believe schools in Italy are honestly very good since they focus on studying and all, while in England they are focus on extra activities and other things and it is really impossible to develop a good common sense e general knowledge. Basically no one knows anything in here, it's so disheartening to talk to people who have no clue on any topic

@giulianeda I will agree that the Italian system really puts in a lot of effort to give as much knowledge possible to the kids ESPECIALLY ABOUT ITALY. What I think we all need is a good balance.

@@LindaTinahTVwell you know those kids should know first the world around them and after that they must open up to the world

Apparently because they're in Italy so the non Italians should be the ones to learn Italian. Not the other way round 🤷🏾‍♀️

@Trackhealing and indeed we try but it would it not be smoother for all if everyone made an effort to communicate in languages that are used in many areas for example English?
