  • Thanks for checking out my 1966 Galaxie 7 Litre 428ci, Total Performance Ford!!. If you want something unique, and rare, this is your machine, lots of power, very interesting Ford, from the mide 60's one of Fords Total Performance Vehicles, where Racing and Performance was King back in the day, everyone loves a Big Block FE, especially a 428 Q Code Machine. This car is an original survivor, Original Paint, Original Interior, Numbers Matching 428ci 345hp -462torque and Cruis-O-Matic C6 Transmission. This car was bought new in Elk Grove, Ca, from Frank Cate Ford, in April 1966. They Special Ordered the car in April, and picked it up in June, paying $4050.00 for it total, even have the canceled check. They bought for retirement, and pulled an Airstream trailer with it for a few years across the country. They didn't use it much after the 70's, they moved to Oregon in the 80's. A local gentleman found out about it in 1987 from an insurance friend of his, and he came over and bought the car. At that time, he said it has 43K original miles, and when he stopped driving it, it had 45K on it, he said he believes the miles to be true, I do have a oil sticker from 1987 with 43K. I could have sold it as a barn find, it had not run for over 25 years. But I wanted to make it run and drive again, who wouldn't, Big Block 428, of course I wanted to drive it. It is number matching, I spent thousands of dollars, and lots of time to get it back up and going, and it was totally worth it. The car is going to be for sale on Bring A Trailer, www.bringatrailer.com auctions starting July 14th. The car is registered with the 7 Litre Registry it was the 157th registerd 7 Litre with them, there are only 758 1966 Galaxie 7 litre cars known to exist, with only 495 being Hardtops. Anyways, very rare car, no rust, very solid, check out the video, check out the pictures, I do mention that steering wheel does have 1 crack, it actually has 2, hard to mention everything in a picture of video, but I tried my best, check it out. I do have photos underneath it, and it is amazing, clean frame, clean floors. THEY CAN ONLY BE ORIGINAL ONCE!!!!!

A friend of mine's dad bought one of these new in 1966 in suburban Philly. I was in it quite a few times and it was a "lead sled". In 1987 they were giving cars like this away. The guy this salesman bought it from made a huge profit!

I owned a 66 Galaxie with the 352, and it was my favorite car. I received it in 1976, cream yellow on black interior, and hardtop. The paint was extremely oxidized, and all the chrome had rust. They must have made things different back then as I spent two days cleaning it, and she was showroom! To bad the engine wasn't showroom, it blew a few years later, and my dad sold it. lol

My grandma bought a turquoise fastback with the 390 4brl new. It was loaded, power windows, drivers seat, a/c. It came to me in '83 when grandma died and was my daily driver for many years, the only problem was an appetite for points. I sold it because I needed room for my 76 anniversary edition Trans Am, I should have found room.

After returning from Asia 67, while still in the Army at Ft.Bliss, I bought a 66 7 liter with 20K on the clock and looked like it just rolled out the show room. Ivy gold with the teak wood riveted steering wheel, power front disk brakes, beautiful xl interior. The 66 428 was rated 345 HP (a joke) and a 4 speed of which only 247 with 4 speeds were made. Damn, what a wonderful car. As things would be,I wrecked it in Trinidad CO in a fucking ice storm 1972. The car had 150,000 on it and only had to replace the clutch, brakes etc. A drive and forget semi high performance car, except for routine maintenance. Man those were the best days ever.

This 7 Litre model was indeed sold in the US. My buddy’s dad back in 1966 bought his from Lousteau Ford in Norco Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I don’t know why Ford marketed and badged the car this way. But I’m telling you it was the real deal in the good ol’ USA.

Man that would have been awesome to be that age to go in and see all these cars at the dealerships, could you imagine, we’ll maybe you can, I was born in 1970, so started noticing cars when I was like 4-5 years old, but by the time I was driving 1986, the new cars at that time did not hold a candle to the muscle cars. When I was 16 I bought my first Mustang a 1965 Fastback, 289, at, for $2500, and yeah it was a super nice car!!! In its condition today it would be worth $25000 howtimes have changed! Very nice rare car, thank you for sharing. Fun to see some of these blue oval survivors still on the road. If you still have it, a heads up on the rust on the roof from what I've found on the ones my shop has worked on. Likely due to mice up in the headliner leaving excrement around the edges and causing rust from the inside out. Would be worth it to replace the headliner and while you are at it do a thorough cleaning and even a treatment of the underside roof of the car.

The great thing about being born in the early 50's is in the 60's I was a licensed driver and remember these cars well...The term
7 Liter was common for Ford in 1966, as a matter of fact my neighbor bought a brand new 1966 XL with a 7 Liter badge on both front fenders and the rear deck lid..It was a 427cid with 425HP... Guys I left school in 1969 and went to work in the car business and will remind you all, back then the Big 3 let you order pretty much what ever they sold...SO PLEASE, don't be ignorant on what was and wasn't available...Because I saw crazy things in cars...This is why I never say never...Need I remind you of the COPO GM cars? This is why we do our home work
when buying a car like this...They were all documented at the factory and the records can be retrieved for a fee....Hope this clears things up.

This was the Starfire of the Ford line but much more reasonably priced. It was actually a bargain. The 428 V8, Cruisomatic, power disc brakes, bucket seats, console, and styled steel wheel covers were standard equipment. The base MRSP without options came in just under $3600. As equipped this vehicle was probably about $4350. It appears to have white wall tires, radio, power steering, tinted glass, probably a left remote mirror, reclining passenger seat and Air Conditioner.

OOH! AM radio and the three speed automatic! LOL. I just get a kick our of how sentimentality warps people's recollections. Automobiles are always evolving. These cars from the sixties were a universe away from the cars of the 1930s. Today's cars are a universe away from the 1960s. Safety, reliability, longevity, technologically, the cars from the sixties are like model Ts compared to today's cars. They"re fun to look at, but you really wouldn't want to have to drive one all the time.

I'm a Mopar guy first but one of the best production high performance engines ever made is the Ford FE 427 Medium Riser. My favorite Ford's ever made are the R-Code 427 cars...particularly the 63 1/2 and 65 Galaxie 427's and the 66-67 Fairlane 427's. But any Ford or Mercury packing an FE 427 under the hood is a BAD machine

The 68 Mercury Cougar GT-E 7 Litre was a beautiful car as well as the Galaxie 7 Litre's. And that's the last car ever made by Ford that came with the FE 427. It was a single 4 barrel 390 horsepower version with hydraulic lifters, not the solid lifter 425 horsepower R-Code version. The 427/390 was the standard engine in the GT-E until it was replaced mid year 1968 by the 428 Cobra Jet as the Cougar GT-E's standard engine

I Bought one in 68, with a 4 speed, awesome car, rated at 345 HP which was BS. Only 247 & Liters with a 4 speed were made. Loved the teak and aluminum steering wheel with a thin strip of teak along the dash. One day I pulled a 65 Vette 350 HP half a car link beteen stop lights. Guy was amazed,ha ha, If it's been a quarter mile run it's been 2 car links,CID rule.

The 427 V8 was a race-only engine produced as both a top-oiler and side-oiler. Introduced in 1963, its true displacement was 425.98 cubic inches, but Ford called it the 427 because 7 liters (427 cu in) was the maximum displacement allowed by several racing organizations at the time.

My Dad had a 1966 Ford LTD. Same car basically but his was just plain Jane with bench seat and the 352 engine. 352 is the same block. Man those old AC compressors used to require probably 15 HP just to run them! His rusted to nothing within 7 years up here in NW Indiana! Lots of SALT!

Yep the 428’s were 7 Litre and gave you another trim package over the 500 XL. Surprised they did not continue calling them 7 Litres because cougar used Litre in 68!

It ran far faster than Kay ever pushed her foot, but my GOD the steering was worse than a forklift!!!

Bull shit to your steering remark. I had a 64 galaxie 500 xl 390 4 speed fast back in 65, it handled great for a large car. ,plus had a 66 7 Liter 4 speed of which only 247 4 speeds were made, I bought in 68, handled like a champ, plus smoother that a Rolls of which Ford advertised this and a FACT.

Concerning mileage, you must know all you have to do is a compression test of the engine to find out if it’s 43k miles. Since you didn’t, it’s weither its 143k or 243k miles.

    • @blueovalranch
      @blueovalranch  Před 5 lety

After the video, we did a compression test. They ranged from 155-160 psi. Pretty consistent for a car this age! But at the end of the day, its hard to tell because we didn't have any receipts or a paper trail of any kind.
