  • Dr. Jon LaPook updates a report on a little boy who is making big strides after he went through an extraordinary medical procedure. In April he became the first child in the U.S. to receive an auditory brain stem implant as part of an FDA approved clinical trial.

    Very special!!!! I'm also Completely deaf and hearing for the fist time was a miracle!! And I'm sure it was for him aswell!!

    OH, I am an adopted baby now 55 i am deaf and i have aspergers, did not stop me i just cant stop saying hello and i talk for england.. jeff

    Oh wow! I sure hope he grew up bi-lingual speaking English and American Sign Language. Speaking two languages is a great asset and tool for him AND to others. Good for him! He's a beautiful child.

    The title says he got Cochlear implant that’s not true he got a brainstem implant because the cochlear implant would not work because he has no hearing nerves

    Wish only the best for this little boy. It's a shame the hundreds of other children, lacking money, cannot get help in this backward country....... But hey we have a really big army so sod the poor kids!

    As A deaf person I totally disagree with cochlear implants I am proud of my deafness I am proud that I use sign language I wish the hearing world would stop trying to take over and improve our hearing. Sign language is our language our way of communicating. Once a cochlear implant is removed at night that child or person is still deaf they still are not able to hear.
