Ipswich Town have just won promotion from the championship to the premiership which is the top league in England,they only got promotion from division 1 to the championship last season.

It is like the Columbus Clippers being relegated to AA baseball for three years. Then a new manager (Kieran McKenna) taking over and they get promoted back to AAA baseball the next year, then they get promoted again to MLB here in the states. I have followed Ipswich for 16 years, it’s a big deal. They get a $150 million boost

We have a different system in the UK [and mainland Europe as well] In England we have 4 professional leagues in football [soccer] The 'premiership' being the highest league. Then comes the Championship, League 1 and then League 2. For example, If you finish 1st or 2nd in the Championship, you are promoted to the Premiership, so you will then be playing in a higher league next year. If you finish in the bottom 3 in the Championship you will be relegated to League 1, therefore playing in a lower league next year and same with the other leagues. All teams obviously strive for promotion and Ipswich Town finished 2nd in the Championship so will be playing Premiership football [soccer] next year ! hence the wild celebrations ! This is different to the states where you don't have a promotion / relegation system, all teams play in the same league every year. This is what makes football [soccer] so exciting in the UK and mainland Europe. Hope that made it a little clearer for you ! Ipswich finished 2nd in League 1 in the 2022/2023 season so were promoted to the Championship, they then finished 2nd in the Championship 2023/2024 season so were promoted to the Premiership. Promotion to the Premiership is a great achievement, but to get promoted from League 1 to the Championship to the Premiership in consecutive seasons in something special, again, hence the wild celebrations...... [I celebrated non stop for 3 days in Ipswich and still have a hangover now 😊]
