  • We discovered a waterfall on our property! We have discovered so many exciting things as we are renovating this historic stone cabin in the mountains into our dream home, including a natural spring that we turned into a pond! But what thing we never thought we would find is a waterfall!

Very happy that your terraces & surrounding land were superbly created for water drainage. Its amazing how the "old school of craftsmanship" withstands the test of time and weather - and definitely something to be said about how they did things - if only they would be around to teach the rest of us. The local tradesman are a gift. You are doing an absolutely amazing job!!! Its taking shape!

I think your family is truly amazing! Whenever I watch a 20-minute video, I realize the immense amount of work it must have taken to create such great content. Brady, I see you putting in a lot of physical effort into building a home, and at the same time, your wife is doing an even more demanding job. She's ensuring the kids are doing well, helping them adapt to their new life with new friends, and taking care of the emotional load. She's also making sure she's strong enough to support you in your endeavors. It's not easy for her, and I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate her incredible effort. You all are such an inspiration to me! Love from El Salvador.

Here's a tip for future concrete work, when you park the empty barrow ready to fill from the mixer, park it in the direction you need to go, once it's full you were using heaps of energy to back it out and turn it around. Good luck with the rest of the 'reno', it's hard work (you save on gym membership owning any farm) It'll be immensely rewarding for all involved.

OMG, the reservoir, the waterfall, it just gets better and better. Turning the "pond" into a waterhole for the plants sounds like a plan. Perhaps adding a couple Kois in it? Okay, maybe minnows... And/or luxuriate in it when the water is clear if you don't mind the creepy crawly fishy sensation... or temporarily toss them in a bucket ...I love the panoramic views. It's my happy place. I can only imagine how it must feel for you. And nice company to boot. So as they, tally-ho!

If you dig a ridge above your spring, you could slope a roof to divert water leaves etc over your spring. And given the head pressure you would get in the pipe down to the house, you could use ceramic filters and an ozone generator to turn the spring water into drinking water.

Dry stone walling is very resilient fir sure. But don't over romanticise them. Contemporary walls are engineered to allow for the movement of water but if done correctly will also stabilise the slope far more effectively than dry stone walling. If the slope starts to slip due to saturation the dry stone wall will simply subside and move down slope with the landslide. A well engineered reinforced wall will inhibit the progress of a landslide.

WOW!!! What a discovery finding a family viewing their challenges in Italy. Discovered your videos just a week ago and I have watch your progress. I admire the work ethic, your imagination as to the finished house. IM in my eighties and did similar work In England working on restoring a 150 yr old castle but we had team of volunteers, about 40 yrs ago, Facinated by what the Local Authorities deem to be necessary for compliance. Underfloor ventilation to dry the underfloor wet areas. The were doing this 2000 yrs agoThe ITALIANS have been building along time, i think they know what is necessary for a cosy future home.
I smile every time i see you and your volunteering emptying concrete from the mixer. I taught the volunteers to have the barrow facing the other way, no turning with a full load of concrete. You are doing a wonderful thing, and so looking forward to seeing the finished home. Bless you all.

Watching you work on your home, pouring all that cement, building walls etc is all hard work. It is also bringing up memories of growing up in Vancouver Canada watching my Italian (from Veneto region) uncles and dad do all their own home renovations with lots of cement making and pouring, walls, plumbing, electric etc. They’d always do the work together, that’s over 60-70 yrs ago.
Every time I see you lifting and pulling those rocks I keep hoping 1) you’re wearing steel toed boots and 2) not injuring your back. Stay safe!

It is a bit late now but ....turn the wheelbarrow in the departure direction before loading it with concrete! Time and effort saved with so many trips to make. Great project!

    Hello Brady,
Having spent a significant amount of time visiting with my family in Northern Italy (many of them employed in the construction field) I noticed how your shoveling skills have evolved since the beginning of this project. I was asked to help prepare the irrigation ditches in between the rows of corn on the family farm. When the "American" picked up the shovel, it was clear that I had no technique and was immediately given a lesson on how to shovel with the legs instead of the arms and shoulders.

I've watched several episodes and may have missed one that would answer my question. I see the stepped hillside that is your property, but I have to ask, how close and where do you park your vehicle. I mean, I watched the episode with the huge earth-mover and had to wonder just how the heck y'all got it to that section of your property!

:Your are making great progress toward your home. It is amazing to watch all you do. The water fall and river were a wonerful sight, especially since they did not damage your place.

Good to see the land coping so well with the water. You are really getting stuck into this place now. Are you still hoping to be in for Christmas, kinda.

Thank you so much!! I discovered your channel a few months ago. We were staging and selling our townhome and bought a house just a few blocks away. It was so daunting, stressful and a lot of work. Wathcing you guys gave me great comfort! All that we had to do was not nearly as hard. lol. So thanks once again!

Thank you for explaining how the water is able to pass through and around the stone walls. I've been very worried about your safety. I will breathe a little easier now. I have seen too many videos of mountains sliding down, taking everything in its path with it. Here in America, a whole town and all the people disappeared FOREVER. I'm glad you pay attention to some of the suggestions that are constantly coming. In particular, turning the wheelbarrow BEFORE filling it with concrete should ease the work load a tiny bit, compared to the gargantuan job you are doing. And quite well, I may add. BIG Thumbs Up! from Marysville, Ohio.
