- In this video you can enjoy the winter cab ride - train drivers' view on Lika Railway on Croatian Railways train between Knin and Oštarije. This is the second part of the whole winter journey from Split to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. The video is filmed in 4K/60 frames per second.
This part of the journey is filmed from the intercity tilting train (ICN), a Bombarier/AdTranz-built class 7 123 (DB612) diesel multiple-unit.
Lika railway (Croatian: Lička pruga), officially a part of M604 railway, is a 220 km-long single-track, not electrified railroad connecting Zagreb-Rijeka line with Knin railway hub. It mostly runs through Lika region. M604 railway is the only operating railway link between the continental Croatia and Dalmatia. Lika railway, finished in 1925, is a key part of this link. The M604 line itself runs from Oštarije/Ogulin on Zagreb-Rijeka railway past Knin, to Split terminus. Its total length is 320 km. Historically, much older Knin-Split section of M604 line (built in 1888) used to be known as Dalmatian railway.
The whole journey will take us from the Adriatic Sea up to the Dalmatian hinterland and changing the scenery once again to the plains of Lika, through the forests of Gorski Kotar and to the plains of central Croatia.

Un départ en climat méditerranéen, plutôt sec. Puis, avec l'altitude, apparait la neige. Finalement des épinettes, des sapins, ça c'est l'hiver, même si la couche de neige est tout à fait raisonnable. Belle promenade avec une superbe variété de paysages et superbe qualité de prise de vue avec un soleil bien orienté. Merci pour la détente.

@@RailRelaxation S obzirom na kaotičnu situaciju tih dana sumnjao sam da ćeš uspjeti al ovo je fenomenalno. Jer već nekoliko dana poslije snijeg se jako brzo počeo topiti. A snimiti mećavu i probijanje kroz snijeg par dana prije sigurno da nije bilo moguće. Tako da izrazito sam zadovoljan snimkom 😍

Odličan video. Pitanje: iz Ličkog Lešća izlaze dva kolosijeka, vidi se da je jedan (desni) van upotrebe i zarastao, ali u lijevom zavoju prije prelaska preko ceste odvaja se desno. Zna li se gdje je to išlo? Google earth prikazuje neke zgrade, kao da je slijepi kolosjek... Hvala...
Ať se na mě nikdo nezlobí, ale pro mě je to další důkaz, že Jugoslávie se neměla rozbít. Z nádraží Knin vedla na Zagreb kratší a hlavně elektrická trať, ta je ale dneska opuštěná a trolej demontovaná. Místo toho se jede po staré trati, která je nejen jednokolejná ale i motorová, a žádných závratných rychlostí se tam nedosahuje. Prý se někdy po dvoutisícím trochu vyspravila, nejšílenější oblouky a sklony se přeložily, ale i tak. Kolem Zagrebu to je modernější, ale tady mi to přijde ještě na horší úrovni, než třeba Ukrajina (a to je sakra co říct) - tam jsou koneckonců hlavní tratě elektrizované. Chtělo by to buď celou trať Zagreb - Split modernizovat na elektrickou dvoukolejku umožňující rychlost 200 km/h (jako to udělal bratříček Srbsko s tratí Bělehrad - Novi Sad) nebo postavit vysokorychlostní trať.

Oh no, nothing as simple - line via Bihać (0:03:02, Una line / unska pruga) was electrified until Knin in the 1980s as it was the mainline in Yugoslavia towards Split. But during/after the war this electrification was destroyed/removed, and these portals in Knin are just remains of that electrification. After the independence, line that train takes (Lika line / lička pruga) became the mainline to Split but it was never electrified, as Una line goes via Bosnia & Herzegovina (city of Bihać). There has been rehabilitation of Una line in B&H but due to EU/Schengen (line crosses border several times) and new Croatian transportation priorities, this line is unused. There are some ideas about electrification of Lika line, but it doesn't have EU TEN-T corridor status so it's not in the priorities.
@@ZvonimirZelenika I suppose that Bosnia's application for EU and Schengen (for how much is hard for it to enter) could make the transports on the Una line more viable...
But I also think that it has been an easy target during the Balkan wars (so there could still be unexploded bombs near the rail tracks), and since Croatia and Bosnia aren't on exactly good terms, I think an eventual reactivation of the Una line is postponed in the distant future...
Aren't there also logistical issues, such as tunnels being too narrow for OHLE (in case the Lika line takes the priority for electrification)?

Kako je moguće, da skoro 30 godina nakon rata, i dalje soje tragovi elektrifikacije železnice, ali elektrifikacija i dalje nije obnovljena?
Zato što je elektrifikacija išla po unskoj pruzi (preko Bihaća) koja je bila (prije rata) glavni smjer prema Kninu/Splitu, danas je unska pruga izvan prometa sa HR strane - prelazi granicu više no nekoliko puta pa bi promet na istoj bio dosta zapetljan obzirom je HR u Schengenu/EU te je također u HR lička pruga glavni pravac. Lička pruga je prije rata bila zapravo manje važna (i nije bila elektrificirana), no kako je cijela na teritoriju HR a dijeli dio puta sa prugom prema Rijeci ona je (realno jasan) izbor pogotovo uz planove modernizacije koja bi se trebala dogoditi (prvo do Karlovca, pa Oštarija/Josipdola te dalje preko drežničke doline). Spominju se ideje o elektrifikaciji no govorimo o 220km potpuno nove elektrifikacije.
Licka pruga nikad nije bila elektrificirana. Tragovi elektifikacije su u Kninu odakle ide Unska pruga koja je elektrificirana. Nakon rata i obnovljena al nikad više korištena zbog granice izmedju Hrv i Bosne gdje pruga presijeca granicu 10tak puta i kompleksnosti rješavanja tog problema.
