Too many dentists are cheap, short sighted and try to keep your wage stagnant while they continually raise their prices, increase your workload, build mansions and buy lake homes. Most also offer limited or zero benefits. These are major reasons they can’t keep hygienists. They also know that many women are afraid ask for raises or will just accept a dollar raise every 4-5 years . well that’s over and things are going to change.

There’s a shortage because Dental hygiene remains to be a stagnant career. You can not go back to school and acquire your masters or doctorate (I mean you can…) but that will not afford you more opportunities to own/co-own into a dental practice. Dentists continue to make money off hygienists and wind up compensating them 20-25% of the total production they bring in. It’s just absurd.
