  • We were in the Qatar desert close to the inland sea. We recieved a message that there were three Toyota Land Cruisers stuck in tidal mud/sand.
we went to the location that was sent to us. It was sunset by then. (you can see the sun setting in the backround at 8:22)
The mud pan had partly dried leaving a salt crust on the surface (hence all of the crunching noise). The vehicles had fallen through the crust and got stuck. All three of the vehicles could not engage 4 wheel drive (faulty)
Whilst recovering the second vehicle a winch rope snapped.
All three vehicles were recovered before the next high tide in that area.

hey Qatar sand man, i love your content.
i heard stories of people being liable for damages caused by recoveries going wrong after the person being helped files a report at the police station. is it true?
if so how can we protect ourselves from legal trouble while helping others?

Thank you. I haven't heard this, but it is a possibility. Insurance doesn't cover you off-road unless you have specific insurance for that. Unfortunately, the only sure way is not to assist.

Do they realise that one needs to let AIR out of the tyres to about 15-17psi (avg) when on sand?

      what about some decent tyres?

Those are specific sand tyres, what I'm curious about, it seems those Land Crusiers where left on RWD while they can just put 4wd and center diff locked to easily come out.@@emmatomkins5582

First thing I looked at hahah. Tyres looked well inflated.

I thought all land cruisers were 4 wheel drive, I only see the rear tire spinning. Also didn't know some had 6 cylinder engines. I'm guessing only in that region.

200 series and up are constant 4 wheel drive with a switchable centre differential lock. The older ones are selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive. As they get abused the 4 wheel selection packs up. It seems to be very common. Most cruisers here have either 6 cylinder or V8 petrol engines

@@QatarSandMan Oh ok thanks, I have the 100 series and it just passed 500 thousand miles. I have the 4.7 litre v8, thanks for showing what our trucks can do.

Lots of locals remove 4wd to reduce the weight
