Yes, he turned around trying to hold back the tears, but he didn't make it. We saw him from behind, shaken by sobs. In the front row was his girlfriend and Coraline was, in some way, inspired by her. Thankfully, not literally, for example she is still alive and quite happy now. They have been together for about 5 years.
Without even understanding the lyrics, right from the start this song was so captivating and intense. You could literally feel the emotions he was conveying with his unique voice.
And the combination with the orchestra and this rock sound😱. This was incredible, loved it 🥰. Fantastic heartfelt reaction HAP🤩🙋🏻♀️
There are a lot of interpretations and theories being told about the meaning of the song. However, after this festival Damiano thanked his girlfriend for inspiration about the song, and his girlfriend has lately confirmed in an interview that there is a lot of her in the lyrics. She has lived with chronic pain and depression for years (this is public knowledge, she is an influencer and female health activist and actively talks about her struggle), which I think can be seen in the text.

No wonder Damiano was overwhelmed and in tears right after this performance.
I've tried to find out more about the inspiration for this song but there are more speculations, some people say Damiano was inspired by his girlfriend, Giorgia, who has "Coraline " tattoo, others say it's about a girl Damiano knew and she commited suicide...
I think it's not that important, anybody who suffers or is being abused can relate to the story.
The fact he offers his unconditional support and love to Coraline who is in pain but he's aware he can't help her is the most beautiful part of the song.
He knows she has to find the strength to fight whoever monster keeps her in that cage, state od mind. But keeps telling her he'll be everything for her.
Even a soldier, or a silver sword.
And ending is open for interpretation.
Is she going to find peace by herself? Or in the castle behind walls (metaphor for cemetary or monestary?) where Nothing can hurt her any more?
"Coraline" is Maneskin's masterpiece. And this performance, supported by the orchestra is so powerful and simply exceptional.
