Yes I did it all myself! The engine is fly-by-wire, which means you have to make a mount for the electronic gas pedal. But that's not to big of a deal. You can get all the wiring diagrams for both a MK1 Golf/Rabbit and a MK3 TDI. If you keep the MK1 fusebox you only have to adapt a few wires, pretty easy once you've figured out which ones. I'd go for a 1.9TDI other than the 1Z/AHU because those only have wastegate-turbos. Find an AFN, pop in bigger nozzles, different turbo, software --> 200BHP

Hey if you cant find a tdi doner the 1.9 German NA engine with a added tdi turbo kit performs really well. similar to the tdi. Les just a few ponies. If you put the adenoid pump on and turbo kit or get the 1.9 td., it is really fast. No need for TDI in the Caddy. But the 1.6 even TD suck compared to the 1.9. No comparison Better power curve.

wtf hahaha 1.6 TD sucks against 1.9? Well I think you haven't driven modded 1.6 jet, it blows any stock 1.9 away..

If you go easy on it (50 in town, 100 out of town,120km/h on the Autobahn) it'll do 4,5l/100km which equals to about 52mpg. You could propably get even better mileage if you went easier on it when accelerating, but where's the fun in that?

So what sort of mpg do you get? I imagine pretty decent if you go easy on it though that might be practically impossilble ;-)

Ok cool. Any idea how well it will fit in a US mk1 dash? Have a TDI in my mk1 pickup. Trying to figure out gauges, would love to plug mk3 ce2 wiring into mk2 ce2 cluster into mk1 dash.

mk3 ce2 wiring should fit the mk2 ce2 cluster. US mk1 dash should be almost the same as the mk1 cabro dash, so you're good to go if you can find a mk2 gtd cluster ;)

What year and model are the gauge cluster and dash from?

    • @hybridfreak

The dash is form a mk1 cabrio/convertible and the cluster came from a Mk2 Golf GTD. Mk2 clusters are an easy fit in mk1 dashboards.
