- On this video, I show how to build a large scale 1966 Ford GT-40 using the 1/12 Scale Trumpeter / Magnifier Plastic Model car kit.

The kit comes as the 1966 Lemans Black Ford GT40 Bruce Mclaren/ Chris Amon or the Blue Ken Miles / Lloyd Ruby Le-mans 2nd place car. But with this kit Im doing it differently and making the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental winner instead.
In order to make this conversion, you need to change the Hood, add the right from fender Hump, and change the fuel inlets. The 1966 Shelby American Ford GT40 team had DIFFERENT hoods with a more V-shaped angle in the center compared to the normal Le-mans version of the Ford GT-40 MkII and fender hump to help for wheel clearance going through the high bank turns at Daytona International Speedway. I manufactured a resin conversion kit for the 1/12 Trumpeter Ford GT40 kit.

This video shows the details and the process of building a large scale model car with all the details. The main thing I discovered with trying to film a video for CZcams is the car is SO big that its very difficult to get it all in the frame!
Earlier this year I got news that Trumpeter was re-issuing the 1/12 Ford GT-40 MkII kits again and I was very excited as I knew I wanted to make a resin conversion kit for this model kit to depict the Ken Miles 66' Daytona 24 hr winner. I always felt this was a very cool scheme with classic white and the semi-gloss black hood area, with the Day-glo identification markings to help the crew members decipher the differences between the Shelby American Cobra teammate cars of #97 Dan Gurney / Jerry Grant and #96 Bruce Mclaren / Chris Amon. Also in the video I show a 1/24 scale Fujimi Ford GT-40 model that I build last year to compare the size of 1/24 to 1/12. The interesting thing about some of the modifications for this car was the fender hump to give clearance to the right front tire from rubbing through on the Nascar banking of the turns of Daytona, especially at 200 MPH in Nascar turns 3 and 4
This 1966 Daytona winning Ford GT-40 was more recognized in the movie Ford v Ferrari during the 7,000 RPM "Go Like Hell" scene when Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby signalled Christian Bale as Ken Miles with a chalkboard to go for it and to win the Daytona race, which was actually filmed at California Speedway. The version I build in my video is the actual version of this car, the real car did NOT have red pained in the back like on the movie and had Dayglo markings and NOT regular red. Needless to say the real 1966 Daytona 24 race results show the Ken Miles and Llyod Ruby won by 8 laps over 2nd place, not off the last turn of the last lap.
Some of the cars this car raced against in 1966 was: Chevrolet Chevy Corvette Sting Ray of Roger Penske, Jaguar E-type, Porsche 904 GTS, Porsche 906, Ferrari 365 P2, Ferrari 250 GTO, Alfa Romeo Giulia Zagato, Triumph TR4, MG B, Plymouth Barracuda, Lotus Elan, Volvo P1800, Chaparral 2D, Austin-Healey Sprite, Shelby Cobra, and Ford Mustang.

Great build super detailed!! Awesome job!! 👍👍👍
Thank you! Its been very enjoyable to build and make these CZcams videos. Expect a new video once a week! Thank you for your support!
This is one of the best model Hindenburg builds I have ever seen! A conversion kit to make the '67 winner would be cool. Nice build, looks great! I enjoyed the video.
I do offer a conversion kit for the 1/24 Fujimi Ferrari P4 kit to make the 1967 Daytona winner
Nice video. Awesome that you use spray cans; so do I.
Thank you. If a person uses proper techniques, spray cans will yield a good result. But Ive been using an airbrush more and more on particular kits.
Super model magnific work 👌👍💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎🏁🥇🏆
Nice! and BIG
Thank you! Its is big, actually too big for proper filming of a video, but it worked out for my first video.
Great video.
Thank you! I learned a lot just doing this first one. They will no doubt get better as I get more feedback from everyone.
Have this sitting on shelf waiting to be built! Great video!
Thank you! If you ever need help or things to look out for, let me know.
Nice use of the music building to the crescendo. Love the edit on cutting from the sprues. Nice vid. Nice transkit. Great first vid. More!
Thank you, when I was filming this big project over the last month, I wasn't sure how it was all going to flow together, but it all worked out. Im sure Ill learn a lot as I do more videos
Great job!
Thank you. Im really having fun with doing this new channel.
Nice build!
Thank you. The kit has a lot of detail. Plus it looks good. Just need to do some test fitting of the body and it comes out pretty good.
Excellent 1st vid on a kit I've been thinking about for years. Not to long, but one does get a great over view on the build sequence. My only suggestion is that some commentary would be a major improvement. Looking forward to your next vid.
Thank you. Im really enjoying this process of building up this channel. Most of my videos will be 10 mins, as thats the more ideal time for CZcams.
Thank you for your feedback.
Commenting for the CZcams algorithm 😉
🙃
@@ClassicRacingResins Does every comment help the algorithm? Or does it plateau?
@@scottmiller1531 as far as I know, every bit helps. The real true threshold I need to break through is getting over 1,000 subscribers as I will be able to qualify for monetization and after being monetized, CZcams will start pushing my videos to a larger audience....of course its a business to them. 😉
Nice start to the channel, Calvin.
Thank you. It took a lot of time to get it all worked out.
Impressive first video! Very professional looking with the music and the camerawork/edits. You could do a whole series on tips and tools with what's in there.
Thank you! Yes I could! The build was easy compared to the hours of editing and planning. Lol I'm sure I'll learn a lot and improve the more I do.
Looks just like the car Llyod Ruby won Daytona in in '66 too!
impeccable work! do you have any plans on doing his le mans version?
Donde lo conseguiste que fierroooo
Thanks for a great video Calvin. I've been waiting for a vid of this build as I have the kit in my stash just waiting. I'm fairly new to building and getting my skills up with some simpler and smaller kits. Could you explain which chrome pieces you stripped and it might be a good idea to describe the repaint call out for those parts. Also the colours you used for the engine, transmission etc. You have certainly stirred up my anticipation of doing this build now.
Thanks and subscribed.
Hi looks great, Im building one right now! The car of Graham Hill #7
Im having some troubles with the rear wheels, they dont show which screw I need to use and I think its also not with the kit included, did you find the same problem as well? They only show front wheels screw 2.5 X 6.0mm.
I’ve got a coupe of these waiting for time to do the LeMans ‘66 Miles/Hulme and Gurney/Grant cars.
I think for the new re-issued price they are a bargain. Just have to make sure to test fit the bodywork and it looks great 👍
Very good video but why the backround noise/music?
Good job, Calvin! Do you want constructive criticism on here to increase comments or offline?
Thanks! No, do the constructive criticism here! 😂 you might point out something I didn't already realize. There was a lot things I let slide as it was so much time sunk into a first video.
@@ClassicRacingResins 1:47 link not like
@@ClassicRacingResins if you use it in your video, an Amazon link in the description might help make some more $$ like the paints, panel line accent, etc
@@ClassicRacingResins 14:19 Hit and run product placement. Might be best to have a stock picture in the corner as you do start using it so people can follow along better.
@@Indy1977TX lol 😆 I hate when silly mistakes happen. I was going to redo that in photoshop, anyway
This is amazing craftsmanship but I do it to why do all of us modelers go straight for the wheels and tires before body is done lol 😂 I'm picking but damn this is beautiful work and thanks so we can build it now with help of a master I know this might sound crazzy and unhealthy and messy and to extreme but when I'm simulAtting break dust on my 1/12 scale builds I go out to my shop grab pair of old racing break pads rub on concrete to get real break dust and actually win best in show few years back on a 1/12 scale Daytona 24 hour winning car build from 2010 winner
Thank you. It's a challenge kit. It's almost impossible to get the doors and engine cover to fit.
I always work on the wheels and tires while I let other parts dry or cure. I never have a particular time I work on wheels and tires.
@@ClassicRacingResins that's crazzy such a nice kit and yet they make the doors and hood so tight clearance like that.
