  • FATV - Exclusive Highlights of Rochdale v FC United of Manchester - The FA Cup 1st Round - 06/11/10.
A dramatic last-gasp goal by Michael Norton put FC United of Manchester into the second round of the FA Cup with a stoppage-time win over Rochdale. The winning goal, in the fourth minute of added time, had an element of controversy about it as Rochdale claimed that Norton had kicked the ball out of Lillis's hands, but referee Geoff Eltringham waved away their protests, seconds before blowing the final whistle which prompted a pitch invasion from the jubilant United fans.
Nicky Platt's chip put the non-League side ahead just before half time after he was put through by Jerome Wright.
Jake Cotterill made it 2-0 with a stunning strike before Anthony Elding headed one back for the hosts.
Craig Dawson's header from a corner levelled it before Norton poached the winner from Dale keeper Josh Lillis.
FC United were formed in 2005 as a breakaway club by supporters opposed to the Glazer family's takeover of Premier League giants Manchester United.
The world famous FA Cup is the oldest, and largest football competition in the world. The first FA Cup competition in season 1871-72 had fifteen entries. (This season more than 700 took part.) Wanderers, a team formed by ex-public school and university players, won the first final 1-0 against Royal Engineers at Kennington Oval. A crowd of 2,000 attended the match and they each paid one shilling for the privilege. The first Cup Final goal was scored by Morton Betts, playing under the assumed name of 'A.H. Chequer'. He was an Old Harrovian who had once played for Harrow Chequers. The original trophy, much smaller than the present one, was made by Messrs Martin, Hall & Co. and cost £20. In 1895, after Aston Villa had won the competition, the cup was stolen from the window of a firm of football outfitters in Birmingham where it had been placed on display. It was never recovered. In 1895, after Aston Villa had won the competition, the cup was stolen from the window of a firm of football outfitters in Birmingham where it had been placed on display. It was never recovered. The present trophy, played for since 1992, is the competition's fourth and an exact replica of the third. Manchester United have won the Cup the most times (11), followed by Arsenal (10) and Tottenham Hotspur (eight). Forty-two different clubs have won it.

I'm a Dale supporter, but that wasn't 'kicked out of his hands', Lillis simply 'spilled it' as if he was dropping a baby, and he cost Dale the tie.

Keeper definitely had both hands on it for a split second, but Norton was already going for the ball the same time the keeper placed his hands on it. Impossible for a referee to call and i think the goal rightly stood.
