  • Trailer for the documentary feature Love, Antosha
    IN THEATERS Aug 2nd
From a prolific career in film and television, Anton Yelchin left an indelible legacy as an actor. Through his journals and other writings, his photography, the original music he wrote, and interviews with his family, friends, and colleagues, this film looks not just at Anton’s impressive career, but at a broader portrait of the man. Born in the former Soviet Union to a family of artists, Anton and his parents came to the U.S. when he was six months old. He started acting at nine. He had a genuine curiosity and love for people, for art, and for family. And a willingness to explore, and be open with, the darker parts of himself. Love, Antosha explores his successes and his struggles, and let’s viewers get to know this extraordinary person the world was cheated from seeing grow old.

His being unlike most celebrity deaths is what really hit me, wasn't drugs, mental health, or even a plane crash, just a weird, stupid, accident. So unfair, man, makes you realize how fragile life is and how suddenly your life can be destroyed. You can do everything right, be as healthy as a horse, and still bite the big one at any time.

I was fourteen when he passed. I had only known him as the kid from Star Trek but his death still haunted me. As I was also young and interested in acting and the movie business as a whole, I felt like he was someone who had made it that I could look up to. That haunted sensation grew the more I watched his earlier work and realized that he seemed destined for greater things. Yet all that was ruined in the weirdest and most tragic way possible. It hurts even to think about him now getting the recognition he deserves and not being able to see it happen, but I'm glad that he made his mark on the world before he left it.

As I'm also a massive Trekkie, I was even happier when he got cast as Chekov in the first JJ Abrams movie as I was obviously aware of his Russian heritage. I was very confident he'd be perfect for the role, which he was. So, I was just as heartbroken when news of his death broke. He was WAY too young to go and I'm sure he probably had loads more to give us. But at least we have his countless roles and this documentary to remember him by.

I first saw him while I was switching channels on HBO, he was playing a highschooler pretending really well to have medication needs and passing it off to other students for cash. Instantly loved him for some reason, and was overjoyed when he appeared in Star Trek. Unfortunately, I never learned his name until a year or two later when I found he passed away and it somehow stopped my train of thought, I barely saw maybe 30 minutes of his screen time yet he had an energy about him that attracted me right away. Each time I spoke with him I was inspired. Each time! For me he was the biggest celebrity in the world, and most important an incredible human being! I live in the same area, and been at that house before... now, each time I am around that street in Studio City I think about him, and repeat to myself "how is that possible? This is not fricking fair! No Anton!” ... I will be there Friday, October 11th, at the Aereo in 1328 Montana Ave in Santa Monica this movie will be screened. Please let’s all go. Let’s make the Theatre packed! Each person that knew him should go! Each one of us! Anton should never been forgotten. Thanks immensely to the Director and Producers of this Film, and of course his parents. He will be so proud of you all…. Anton forever!
