This is literally the best version of this song you'll ever find.
Eh.. the one by the Royal British Legion is incredible, although its a very different composition
This was played at Sir Winston Churchill's funeral and I can't think of anything more fitting. That man was England, without him I dread to think what would have happened. RIP Winston. God Bless you Sir
steve FromEngland And yet people call him an 'Imperialist swine' and deface his likeness.. Truly disgusting.
I know. Some people have no respect or gratitude. You are right, truly disgusting. It's shameful
Britain should never of went to war against Germany
@@matthewwhite4963 it was Chamberlain that took us to war. Churchill was asked by the king to see it through. He did his duty, as any Briton should.
Look at all history from all sides, Churchill is not the man, as portrayed by the UK, his most famous speech , he didn't even give, too drunk to do it, he was a just representation of the group that rules the world today, Vlad the Impaler was a real hero , he used to want to fight the leaders himself, to save the slaughter of his men and their men, that's what a real hero does
I am British born and came to Australia when I was 6 years old with my parents back in 1952. I have to say that this piece makes me quite proud of my British heritage and to be British born.
Me too. I was almost 4 in 1950.
Still alive?
what crime did you commit lmao
@jord7951 jord7951 No, it's a good laugh.
May God bless the good people of Australia. We love and admire you. M.
This arrangement of Holst's melody is Elizabeth's peace theme in Civilization V, composed by yours truly.
KnorrMusic are you Geof Knorr!? 😱🤭🤯
@@Stiglitz_AE Yes!
KnorrMusic Nice bells at the end ;) great touch.
Absolute beautiful arrangement!
Wonderful arrangement, but I can’t find anywhere online to buy the track!
I’m not British but my love for opera brought me here and this piece cemented my love for Britain 🇬🇧❤️❤️
I as an American salute you Brits for your astoundingly powerful and touching patriotic hymns. No one else comes close. This hymn and Jerusalem are the most moving. What I would give to attend the spring graduation performances of the Proms of these compositions.
Makes me proud to be British
I can understand you very well, although I am not British (I wish I were), this music is so inspiring and majestic!
I heard this hymn for the first time in a very good film called Another country (1984) and it seemed so wonderful that I began searching the internet to find out what it was. This music really captures the British soul.
The owl Thank you.
I totally agree. I watched that film a few years ago and loved it.
My granddad introduced me to the music when I was a lad.
I’ve loved this music for many years. Today it’s Monday March 6th 2023. To anyone reading this, I wish you health wealth and happiness.
As an American, I came to say I'm proud to be band of brothers with you my British friends from across the pond.. We will always stand side by side with our motherland country.... In any time of need, we will support you, we will stand tall and never break or bend, but push forward for freedom we shall defend. Ready to be ferocious in battle and magnanimous in VICTORY! May God save the Queen and God Bless America, Peace be with you Cheers!!!!
Sincerely,
Dan from the Sunshine state of California..
Beautifully said.
From the small shores of Britain, I thank my American brothers for all they have done to help every cause in the preservation of liberty. I may not believe in God, but at least I can hope that the Anglo-American alliance will live forever.
Jack Alexander Yes, we will ALWAYS rule the world!
brought a tear to my eye ;)
WELL said my friend....well said !!!

I cant hear without shedding tears, its almost instant reaction, I find that fascinating , the science behind music and emotions

I have always loved this song, as an American with English blood this is about Mother. Long live our Mother......
Well said Rick, she is the Mother country for sure.
Rick. I’m the same. Huzzah ! I don’t think I want any other lineage and I couldn’t be prouder of my roots!! God bless the UK 🇬🇧 and These United States of America 🇺🇸!! Ours is the blood of Knights ,patriots , and heroes
i'm an American through and through but i have the highest regard for Great Britain and it's great people. such rich history.
What such a small country can achieve is remarkable truly great indeed.
Such terror and such greatness wrought by us little islanders
A shame that its future will be islamic.

Non ho capito, ma sei British o no? Perché poi dici “if I actually were British”?
My school sang 'I Vow to thee..'' for the five years I was there and this has stayed with me all my life, never failing to bring a lump to my throat. Reminds me of the loss of loved ones and those brave lads who lost their lives, in the Battle Of Britain, in fighting for this country of ours. For this reason, it is my favourite tune. ...to the end...........chokes me every time.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. I am American but several branches of my family came from various counties in England so I guess it's okay for me to feel it can be my anthem, too. It's just beautiful.
I mean, given that it was not conceived as an anthem of any kind... and music belongs to everybody anyway, it's about the art and emotion, especially with pieces like these. How would one deny you feeling at home in a piece that conveys so much depth, that somehow connects the soul to all there is?
One of my very favorite pieces of music/hymns. I've loved this since I first heard it played at Winston Churchill's televised funeral, at my grandmother's home, in Indiana, USA. Even as an American, I have always thought of this hymn as patriotic, but the older I get the more the second stanza means to me. Where all "her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."
Hi Edward, This is a vocal version of the same, czcams.com/video/GZNJFrb0IGo/video.html by a Royal Marine Bandsman, who by the tunic medal (Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan) directly next to her buttons did a full tour of duty there in one of their other roles, probably Cas-evac or Medic. No substitute to knowing what you are singing about? The same Royal Marine can be seen singing "Brothers in Arms" here, czcams.com/video/8eCsC8g2cwE/video.html , which some dummy posters think is an "anti-war song. Some people just don't get it. Enjoy!
RIP Elizabeth II
You were long-lived with a reign to match. It really is the end of an era.

Yes the music is part of Gustav Holst’s suite ‘The Planets’ specifically Jupiter. Altogether a beautiful suite of music
Actually this piece (when used as a hymn tune) is called 'Thaxted'. Possibly better known as "I Vow to Thee My Country" but honestly the words of that are horribly bombastic, the music is far better on its own.
And it's also much better alone than in the Planets 'Jupiter', because in that Holst has book-ended it with some incongruous orchestral fiddling that clashes with the mood.
But by itself it is, I think, the most beautiful and moving piece of music ever written.
@@cr10001 What's wrong with the lyrics.., Utter rubbish.
I’m touched by this masterpiece. The Queen is up in heaven now. May god save her
One who was raised during a war in Europe, only to pass away during another war in Europe. May she find eternal peace.
I vow to thee, my country,
All earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect,
The service of my love:
The love that asks no question,
The love that stands the test,
That Lays upon the altar,
The dearest and the best;
The love that never falters,
The love that pays the price,
The love that makes us unduanded,
The Final Sacrifice.
And there's another country I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her,
Most great to them we know,
We may not count are armies,
We may not see her King;
Her fortress is her faithful heart,
Her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently,
Her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness,
And all her paths are peace.
Always brings me to gentle tears and makes me think of the ideal Eden that we could build in our green and pleasant land!
Beautiful proud to be British
From early Anglo saxons fighting Vikings, to medieval knights in civil war. To becoming an Empire from nowhere that kick started human civilisation. On the battlefields of Europe, to hills far away, I Will Always Vow To Thee My Country, Britain.
To hills far away as in "O'er the hills and o'er the plain, through Flanders, Portugal and Spain'? :)
@@RobespierreThePoof And nor did Britain start colonization, but the Spanish and Portuguese did.
Britain, alongside France, were actually one of the nations that had a late colonization period.
@@timonheidema6837 i think britain was arguably the country that started the modern world though as it was the country where the industrial revolution started
@@DaWickedGuy Industrial Revolution and the colonization are about 300 years apart. Not a great comparison
Didn't really become an Empire "out of nowhere". The British first started colonizing in the 16th century and they became an Empire in the 19th century. That's a slow buildup
I’m not British I’m American but this is an absolutely incredible moving song/instrumental. It’s very moving.
it will be the national anthem when the monarchy is dissolved for the final time in history.
@@Mikebuster why does it have to wait until the monarchy is dissolved?
@@Mikebuster Time to divorce the monarchy from the national anthem, yes.
But the monarchy is part of the icky sticky glue that holds we British together; our nation would be very much the poorer for losing it.
Most Beautiful piece where I couldn't stop viewing over and over again.
Well this is relevant now
Today with death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96, after a lifetime of public service that dates back to World War II, this hymm takes a new meaning marking the end of an Era.
This music simply places in one's heart what words can only hope to evoke........
Same with Hymn To The Fallen by John Williams.
The be born in Britain is to have won life’s lottery ( if only people knew it )
Thank you for everything, Queen Elizabeth. You can rest now.
Here's to a wonderful friend and ally. God bless Great Britain and her people. A friendship and partnership forged and reinforced in the early and dark days of World War II remains to this day an absolutely unbreakable bond. To our friends across the pond!!!
Friends are friends forever, no matter how far away they are.
"A friendship and partnership forged and reinforced in the early and dark days of World War II"... you were two years late to the party chum, let's not get carried away.
the yanks only came into the war after the japs gave you a bit of a beating in pearl harbour up until then the yanks didnt want to know so cut the crap about friends across the pond
I'm not British but I will play this song at my funeral. The world needs more leaders like Mr Churchill right now, true leaders of the character of mind and masters of strategy!
Like many people sharing comments here, I’m invariably reduced to tears by this moving work of Holst. This arrangement is especially powerful, given that it accompanies the archival film of Winston Churchill’s funeral. For we who so admired our fathers and uncles returning-or not returning-from the war against fascism in Europe, and barbaric aggression in the Pacific, this music is not just another CZcams moment. It is elegiac, epic, anthemic-a wistful hymn of gratitude to a generation that risked everything for us, their kids and grandkids. It even records for many of us the survival of a free humanity, with all the tear-brimmed sentiment that deserves. We can see the evil posed by Trump and Putin because their brand of evil is not new. Anyone moved by this music must embrace its importance in the recurring struggle against the new Hitlers, the new Mussolinis, Francos and Hirohitos.
This just makes you proud of your country, wherever you're from. It inspires that patriotic feeling. But it also inspires a greater respect for Britain 🙏
R.I.P to our wonderful Queen🇬🇧❤️
I am not British, but hearing this piece makes me want to pledge my sword to her Majesty the queen!!!
It makes me want to pledge my heart and soul to that "other country...where her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

Holst composed Jupiter and used the refrain in this song himself
Very smart
Moving song...first heard it when I watched the wedding of the Prince. Fantastic song!
I first heard this melody while playing a recording of Holst'sThe Planets. My reaction was that a great western film should have made this its theme. Only decades later did I discover I Vow to Thee My Country, and that at least two Protestant hymns have been set to this melody. I would not dare have this played at my funeral, unless I had been in combat for the British Services.
Nice arrangement. This hymn is part of the OST to the Korean drama - My Life Again. The music fits nicely and proves this hymn is definitely loved internationally.
This should be our national anthem ..when I hear this piece .I think of winston spencer churchill..when as a country holding the weight of the world against tyranny ..we were a stepping stone ..for the invasion of the usa ..im proud of who I am .and bursting with pride for my country .we stand shoulder to shoulder with every nation ..this music is what we are
Dennis Houghton what fucking invasion of the USA, more British and Empire troops took part in D-Day than Americans! US industrial might and manpower certainly were the decisive factor but it was not an invasion by the US
+Dennis Houghton Either you meant invasion by the USA or you don't know your history, admittedly, I believe you meant the first one.

Britain civilised the world and brought massive advancements. Just because you're a butthurt liberal who wants to rewrite history so we can all self-flagellate doesn't mean it didn't happen.
*****
Quite amazed anyone would be able to make a "blank statement" when it's an oxymoron.
Yet again, amazed how "Britain civilised the world and brought massive advancements" has no substance.
Must be easy to dismiss everything as holding no meaning when you don't have to argue any of it, right?
Absolutely sublime in every sense of the word

Being British by blood is about pride, dignity, humility, doing the right thing, helping those in need and all the unique things that give us the right to call ourselves British, no matter where we are in the world our home will always be England, we carry the pride of England in our hearts the cross of Saint George in our minds when we travel, so if you are British hold your head high, we always come through the storms.
I sincerely hope so.
+Nolan Swadds Maybe to you, but that doesn't mean it's the same for everybody.
+Ben Bruce The present course we are on, it will be doubful if Britain makes it into the next century as a Nation, it will be just a distant memory, you can thank the Yanks for this, and succesive Governments who have pandered to this Narative, why people on the other side of the world should have any bearing on our lives is beyond me, Thats why we should all vote to come out of Europe, We don't want to be the United States of Europe, look at the State of the US, do we really want that model, the US are going backwards socially, they are going back to the Dark ages, don't let them take us with them.

FABSF BR united kingdom has a beautiful culture, i have been in london and its a beautiul city, many argentinians don`t hate england, maybe there grudges because of the war and the islands but no hate
***** no, what happened is that the falklands were from spain, and when we get the independence, spain gave us some territories, one of this territories were the falklnads, the only lands that argentina conquered were the patagonia and the chaco, that were under the controll of native americans and paraguyians, but i am not worried of this islands, because nowadays our country has more importants problems inside, our president is destroying our country :/
***** On this week, the news said that england send more forces to the falklands islands, but dont worry, argentina will not declare a war, our army is a piece of shit and our economy too, the president is not so crazy for declare a war, i think. But do not worry, its impossible a war nowadays

This great Eden of ours which we are blessed to witness and duty bound to cultivate and protect; may the garden of human happiness and well-being forever flourish, and the shining light of liberty and hope guide us. Providence wills it!
What I like most about this song is that it is a solemn patriotism. It is a measured pride in one's achievements, not an overblown pride like so many songs are. It recognizes the immense sacrifices so many made to make it happen. It recognizes that there are still greater things out there. And it recognizes that one should strive to make one's nation better, not simply be complacent in how it is.
It doesn't matter if you're left-wing, right-wing, centrist, or none of the above. It doesn't matter if you're pro-EU or anti-EU. This song is for everyone. It is more than just pride and patriotism; it is hope, sincere gratitude, and a recognition of one's own responsibility in continuing to improve.
Also, if anyone dares start a trollish political argument in the replies to this comment, well...you make me sad. Now step aside, Sir Internet Knight.
