I have heard many versions of Elgar’s Nimrod played by magnificent orchestras and have been brought to tears but when played by the Guard’s Band at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday it can never be bettered and I’m speechless and overwhelmed.

This music is sublime, but it makes me sad. Why? Because today people are so shallow and selfish, and do not appreciate what they have. Old fashioned values are old because they are good ... that is why they are old. Now, people want instant gratification, they take all they have for granted and do not value the qualities of decency, honesty, manners, humility etc.

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
    This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

National Anthems should be a call to the focus of our patriotism. Elgar's "Enigma", while quite moving, is a call to remembrance of defeat and loss. "God Save the Queen" is a rousing call to remember This Sceptered Isle, its glorious history, and the Crown that has surmounted it, and was for a time, rejected, then surmounted it again.

I wholeheartedly agree. Can anyone believe that this multicultural nation would now lay down their lives as our forefathers so readily did?

Had to conduct this with PCB and PMW Choir. My Wife asked if I could conduct without grizzling. (Crying). Yes, and we achieved £5240. For Help For Heroes!... Still awaiting thanks from H4H...

My poor grandad who went through hell and back in ww1, and my pop, who tried to do his bit in Korea, would both be heartbroken to see the depths to which our country has sunk. Such a shame to think we'll be under Muslim Sharia law inside 30 years!! Thank god I'll be dead too by then.

I am teenager and I completely agree with you! Thank you for what your father and grand father did for me and the rest of the country! I respect it a lot.. I am disgusted In the way the country has gone myself.. not just our own culture and heritage, which has been completely discarded of.. our industry too.. IT IS DISGUSTING.. We have become too tolerant and it actually hurts me.
