As a euphonium player this movie really hit close to home on the references made to everyone calling it a trumpet and the annoyance portrayed in response. Although I’m used to being called a baby tuba which is even more insulting! This movie really hits close to home as an American. Especially as a euphonium player. The only place we are taken seriously is the brass band. This was a damn good movie!
A great movie, presenting history, human fate and all this wonderful music. These hardworking coal miners on the edge of starvation play like any master class - just brilliant. I watched the movie on DVD with my sons last year and got the soundtrack CD for my car radio. 😊
This portion of the film always brings tears to my eyes. Brave British people speaking out against their government with music. I wish Danny's speech had been included.
@@stevetaylor7403 Absolutely right. It's ironic that if the Government tried to bring back coal mining they'd now face violence from those opposed to it. As for the 'brave British people speaking out against their government', it was a minority of extremely violent left-wing thugs (violence including murder) attempting to overthrow a democratically government that had the full support of the the majority of the nation at the time.
From the lone ranger just image what a practice is before a real live concert you should be proud and amazed just love classic music job well done you should be proud appreciate you guys thanks ! Joe

Let's stop and honor and appreciate this masterpiece of music from the William tell overture the musicians deserve a lot of credit great job and outstanding performance classic music at its very best one of the best and favorite ever god bless you guys thanks you guys rock thanks ! Joe
A superb performance by Grimethorpe - if Carling made colliery bands...The cornet solo was masterful. A couple of years ago a stage version of 'Brassed Off' went on tour and here in Cheltenham the band was Bristol's Flowers Band. Their performance reflected their status as British Champions. Andy Smith on cornet. As good as this clip from the film.
Ovations to the British Brass Bands. And at the same a tribute to the mining industry. During this time the same thing happened in the States with the same kind of Administration and decimated the middle class and it has never recovered since.
I know it's just a movie and the guy playing the conductor probably knows about as much about music as my cat, but I love the job he did. To me it seems like he was "driving" the band more than leading it. He worked very hard to realitically show what it's like in the orchestra pit.
Excellent and outstanding performance I get thrills and chills to listening to a real masterpiece of music even rossini would be proud appreciate you guys thanks job well done you should be proud just image what a practice is before a real live concert you guys rock appreciate you guys thanks ! Joe
One of the best movies I have seen in many a year. Remember when it came out and saw it three or four times. The lass who ;played the cornet I saw in a recent BBC produciton of Spooks - and she is still as beautiful as ever
Just a real masterpiece job well done you should be proud and amazed one of my favorite pieces of music to listen to or watch on TV or my cell phone just image what a practice is before a real live concert appreciate you guys thanks ! Joe
Other than the fact that this is a great performance and a very entertaining clip from a film, it appeals to me since my mother's family all left Wales(Merthyr Tydfil) in the mid 19th century and came to the US. That alone adds enormously to the appeal of this for me.
What a bitter sweet moving tribute to the Brass Bands of Britain but also a tribute to the miners who lost their jobs by the tens of thousands and effected the towns throughout the United Kingdom.
This is superb! Probably the best recording out there! After hearing this, the cornet solo at 1:12 became my favorite part. In every other recording, the solo was extremely underwhelming. Here, it's brought out and played so clearly. I also am very much amused by Harry's conducting style. He was by all means taught well :) All the compliments aside, one thing that bugged me was Tara Fitzgerald's acting when she played the flugelhorn. It reminds me of one of Danny's quotes earlier in the movie: "That girl blows flugel like a dream." (Referring to Gloria, played by Fitzgerald) Well, if you dream about a girl who can't play flugel, then you're definitely right.
Civic theatre Halifax. I watched them filming at the Piece Hall Halifax and was asked to be in the crowd I said no. I met Pete outside the Piece Hall having a smoke. Brilliant film.
Full Monty got all the plaudits whilst this was a little overlooked at the time. Surely this can now be viewed as a wonderfully more warm and realistic view of the genre.
What a bloody fantastic movie!!
The wonderful, wonderful Pete Postlethwaite, God bless him.................. what an actor, what a film! ❤❤
One of the greatest movies ever. I saw it 15 years ago and still feel the same emotion.❤❤❤
I’ve watched this 15 plus times and still get tears
with a posthumous tribute to Pete Postlewaite, he will live on as a great actor.
Great picture,
a fan from Holland.

And the ‘trumpets’ were cornets
One of the best films ever made, it deserves recognition. So does Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Pete Posthelwaite should have received the Academy Award for his part. Great actors sometimes get neglected and overlooked by the Academy.

Whatever would humankind be without music of this tradition? It makes us better, gives
dignity to our sometimes afflicted lives.
Which is why mis’lums wont allow music, srt, or besuty
Bravo !!!! The Grimethorpe Colliery band !!! Bravooooooooo !!!
I have never tired of watching the final scene of this movie. Absolutely brilliant.
I'm a hard Rock music fan and I absolutely love this brass overture.
the conductor is awesome
Goosebumps everytime.
OMG THIS IS GREAT MUSIC.....
The brass bands start to play and I start to cry. Whatever they play touches my heart and I just sob. Always been the same even as a young child.
hell i get chills everytime i hear this great piece of music, brass at its best and i love the way its conducted
Yes its always great when you can import an actual Brass band from Germany!!!!!!

Carson a man of many trades. Butler and conductor.
I’ve listened to this song many many times and I love it so much. I’m a baritone player and love what they do with this!!
great movie...great music...sad times.
RIP Pete xx great actor brilliant films
This is the best William rendition i have ever heard. Beautiful. Hard hitting honest film
The man who has the solo, at 1:12 , conducted at a concert band I used to play in! His name is Shaun Randall.
God I love this song!
Cracking piece and brilliant acting through the film. Very poignant film - they don't make em like this now!
Another great actor dies prematurely.
Left some good memories though!
Pete Postlethwaite. R.I.P.
yorkshire at its best our bands very rarely get beaten and long live the miners
Superb conducting.
As good as it gets.
un grand et beau film ! poignant, émouvant, les années miss Thatcher ! great Pete Postlethwaite ! RIP.
Great version of this song. Goosebumps
This film and the music in it is what keeps pushing me to do my grade 8.
This portion of the film always brings tears to my eyes. Brave British people speaking out against their government with music. I wish Danny's speech had been included.
With music. And petrol bombs, half-Charlie’s (bricks), railway sleeper bolts. And the rest.

Wonderful film, wonderful clip - thank you. Love Jim Carter's conducting; so vital.
What a wonderful movie , what a brilliant performance, perfection !
Outstanding in every way
There is a restaurant in Ocean City MD that plays this beautifully piece every night at sunset. Never get tired of hearing it.
I love that they play cornets, not trumpets. I love that sweet sound!
Get goosebumps every time I hear this !
Love the speech that follows
"Brassed Off" is currently on Pluto TV.
Great film and even better music

James Shepherd is awesome, as are the rest of the band especially given what all miners went through in the 80s
