None of them had creak issues, one had rattling issues that got fixed. With German cars it doesn't matter what brand, you just have to take care of them and spend on them more and they will work just fine for you. A lot of people buy German cars, expect Japanese reliability without showing the car the extra care it needs

    I called my local (large) Honda dealer and they told me I would have to wait a year for a Civic Si, and would not sell for MSRP, or close to it. So sure, it is cheaper in theory, but if you need a car within a reasonable time and don't want to pay $35k for it, it is not much of an option. VW (same dealer family) is able to get me a GLI with the Black Package within a month, and I would pay MSRP. The only thing I dislike, and that I wish more reviews would mention, is that the Hankooks that come with the car are atrocious.. I will be replacing them immediately with Vredesteins or Michelins.

    It's not that little nor compact. Park a 2022 Toyota Camry next to it, you'll see what I mean. Also, it's not just the look of a sedan as to why some of us want a trunk. Some prefer the security of a lockable trunk. You don't get that with a hatchback. Someone sees you putting something valuable into the hatch, wait until you walk away, all they need is a center-punch and a razor-knife. Shatter the glass, cut that plastic panel shelf from the sides, yank it out of the now missing rear window, take the small valuable item you put back there. Takes seconds! That doesn't happen with a sedan's trunk.
    Quite frankly, for those who are constantly hauling stuff back and forth; they should get an SUV or even a van for that. I just need to store away a few items in the trunk that'll be useful during emergencies. Still have room for groceries. In the rare event I need to get something tall to my home, I'll pay for a delivery driver to haul it for me.

    Great car! Great review Wish you had reviewed the DSG. One thing I like to mention about this car especially the DSG is the performance is way better than an SI. The Great thing about the GLI is it has mid size performance yet it's a compact sedan. Not to mention it has the ea888 engine and DSG with huge after market support. For anyone looking for actual preformance I would highly suggest this over the SI. Not to mention you get more features, leather seats, more comfort, less highway drone etc.

One thing that bugs me - and thats more of a VW design lang than specific to this car - is the dead and empty buttons in the gear shift area. Why have them there if they don’t got any function? All the cost cutting the Si has in the back too for quite a bit more money. Yes Si’s currently have markups, but they also have traditionally had better resale.
    With destination, the 6MT GLI is $31,990. The DSG version is $32,790. The 2022 Si with destination is $28,315 with the all seasons or $28,515 with the summer tires. $3475 difference in the manual versions is a lot of coin for leather, heated and cooled front seats.
    This coming from someone who had a Mk5 GTI for 15.5 years.

    • @ruthlessruth846
      @ruthlessruth846 Před 2 lety +1

      The difference is 0-60 of 5.8 seconds vs 6.9 seconds. Quartermile of 15.2 seconds vs 14.0 seconds. Trap speed of 95 MPH vs 103. 100HP gain from a single flash tune vs 40HP Gain. When it comes to being a performance Sedan the SI is horrible this year. Slower, worse gearing less features. So if you are ok with paying 28k for a car that goes as fast as a corolla, but not 3-4k more for a car with more features, German engineering, more comfort, way more performance, way more tuneability then be my guest

      @@ruthlessruth846 lol because stats on paper are everything. Yes the GLI is quicker no doubt. Doesn’t not make the Si just as engaging or more engaging. Tuning wise, sure, the GLI and the EA888 gains more power, but we’re talking about a Civic here, easily one of the biggest compact tuner markets ever (VW has that too, I did the VW thing since my first car, a G60 Corrado, then a 98 GLX Jetta, then my 2006 Mk5 GTI I big turbo’d, etc.)
      German Engineering to an extent, sure. But since 2005/6, VW has really cost cut big time.

    • @ruthlessruth846
      @ruthlessruth846 Před 2 lety +1

      @@g60corrado91 Once again the only reasoning you have given me is ' engaging'. tune the GLI, lower it and the fun will take out the engaging aspect. Engaging doesn't justify paying almost 30k for a 7 second 60 car and a car that can barely trap 95MPH. Remove the paper stats, trap speed is still too slow. There is no justifying it. Also there is no doubt that the ea888 4th gen gains much more power easily and reliable than the Honda does. In the long run you would have to spend more on your car to get it the same amount of HP you would need to make the 4th Gen EA888. Not to mention the 2.0 is more reliable than the 1.5.
      If you want fun and engaging then go for a Toyota GR86 BRZ, they are faster, way more engaging way more fun and 90% of the reviewers have bought that car over any SI. There is no justifying paying more, having less features and the same performance stats from 10 years ago and trying to justify it by saying it's more engaging. It may be more engaging, but it won't make it worth it or the better car. CARANDDRIVER even did a direct comparison and said the GLI is the over-all better car. Cost cutting is true, and very noticeable. Even when you compare a GLI vs a GTI you can see how the GLI has cheaped out, but it's better than an SI when it comes to being an performance oriented sedan. Not to mention it beat it around the track too lol.
