    Just bought the 2020 Autobahn and I absolutely love it. For 30k I can’t think of a more well rounded option. It’s fun to drive, great interior in the autobahn, and 30+ mpg. My last car was a Genesis 5.0 R Spec so I didn’t want to lose too much performance and this car is just as fun if not more fun to drive. Lightweight and way better handling than my last vehicle.

    I needed this!! My lease is almost up and the offers are coming in from VW and Audi. I’ve always wanted to make the switch from VW to Audi but I’m not seeing the major advantages so far, besides it’s almost a $10k difference comparing base models. Maybe what I really might end up doing is going from Jetta SE to GLI

  • @burnx45

    Wow the new GLI keeps getting better with every new generation and has a lot more features than the older models and great bang for the buck. Now they just need to make it all electric for the next version. I have a 2014 VW Jetta GLI edition 30 with DSG since new and 50,000 miles and it's still fun to drive everyday. It was a lot more fun when I did the Unitronic stage 1 ECU and DSG tune, Neuspeed charge and discharge pipes, AEM drop in high flow air filter, and Fluidampr crank pulley. The car really came alive with the extra power, but could use a limited slip differential as it's so easy to get wheel spin now at lower speeds.

    I have a 2019 GLI I live in Alaska and surprisingly it does very well. I would say my biggest gripe with the car is the interior build quality. I’ve had my GLI for about 8 months now and I love it. Tremendous bargain. There are a few things (mostly interior) where VW went a little cheap but I would say that where they did it’s strategically placed. VW also sandbagged on the fuel economy. I get about 27-28mpgs around town but I get about 38-40 on the highway. Sometimes a little higher if it’s flat.

If I had to pick between a loaded Golf Gti and a midrange A3 hatch, I would pick the Golf. But I'm no batch snob. Just my two cents.

    nice review, the way you summarized it, in the end, is exactly what went through my head when I decided to buy mine in April. I did end up getting the manual just because I know there's not many years left for that transmission as a whole. Lot of people talk about buying stick shifts but not having a conventional transmission (electric cars) sells 2X of manual transmission cars now in the US. All the brands will follow the money. This might be one of the last generations of a new car that offers a manual transmission, get them while you can!

Our yard typically gets more VW’s and I’ve driven the regular Jetta standard edition to the GLI. I can tell you in both markets they are the same. Very impressive interior, very peppy for the car it is. We also receive manual versions and automatic versions in the U.S. A very exciting car it is for a majority of it being produced in Mexico

    A little piece of advise to improve "video" part - when comparing two + cars better show side by side video/picture with a voice behind.

    Got to follow command instructions as it needs to be. You can say anything through Car Play, and it will work😊 I don't know why you would compare it to the Arteon, because the Arteon is a very isolated and luxurious cruiser. It's not meant to be loud or as sharp on the steering, rather it's informative and relaxed. Performance wise they are +/- equal from speed to 110 (after the Arteon's bigger turbo has the advantage), and off the line the Arteon is faster due to AWD.

    Coupla things. I bought the 2019 version since it has a 6 year warranty. Also, you don't have to use premium gas; it'll take regular with, for me, an unnoticeable loss of performance. Mine is the Autobahn w/ stick and it's the best Jetta I've owned. (I owned four diesel Jettas starting with the 1981 two-door.) Funny, I find the fake noise silly. My salesman suggested the 'custom' mode to allow a good combination of options. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality experience at the dealership. There was no b.s. Oh, and it was a lot less expensive than the GTI I went into the store hoping to buy.

      All The Kids Are Right I have a 2019 gli autobahn. Mines a auto and had remote start so idk about the manual. But the inside of the gas cap says it only needs 87 octane. However the 228hp rating is based off of premium fuel (93 octane). I only put in premium since it’s not much more and gives better performance and burns cleaner. However you can use regular.

    I have to wonder as you open the rear trunk, what would happen if you had any snow or ice left on the trunk, looks like you it would cascade off the rear window right into the trunk. Designers have to design for many considerations, but Germans get to deal with snow as well. (The wiper system on my Mk5 is the worst for getting stuck in ice and hard pack).

    @ACCELER8 CORRECTION: The engine noise you hear, not "fake exhaust", is REAL engine noise being pumped into the cabin by the Soundaktor system. It is in fact REAL engine noise that is channeled into the cabin via a resonator of sorts. When it is disabled, you don't much engine noise in the cabin. Nothing fake or "not real" about it. I think a better term is "Engine Noise Enhancement".

    and paid it off with a relatively small monthly note...

      No issues for me after 13 months and 15000km. I’ve owned 3 recent VWs with this engine and all have been reliable. However, I usually change every 4 years so I can’t comment on long term. As for maintenance, not more expensive that other manufacturers as it requires only 1 service per year or every 15K km.

    • @musicISlyf1
      @musicISlyf1 Před 3 lety

      Those are the VW's from the past. They're great cars and reliable. Maintenance isn't really much more than any other manufacture. Oil change on these are every 10k mileage, spark plugs at ~55k ish miles. The one costly thing about these is if you get the DSG the fluid needs to be changed every 40k miles and it's not cheap.

      When you approach hills let the car coast and lose speed, then accelerate at just over the peak of the hill or as you're going down. You'll make up 3-4mpg.
