Level 42 had many hits all over Europe in the 80's. Here in the Netherlands they had 16 top 40 hits, 8 of wich reached the top 10

This tune was their first top 10 hit on the UK charts. It's vocally the opposite of most of the band's songs like "Something About You", as Mike Lindup (keyboardist and second vocalist) takes the lead. Mark King (bassist and lead vocalist) sings backup here.

    Great composition.
It makes House Party sound like House Party 2!
I’m not sure how they arrived at this point, but they’re all really fine players (and Mark King is something of an idol in the world of acrobatic slap & pop bassists).
They sound to me (at this point, which was pretty early on) like what they are: good players who’ve arrived at the conclusion that they need vocals, and are using the singing skills almost everyone with a good ear will have developed.
The production is pretty flat, but I don’t think they had a lot of tech or $$ to work with this early on.
On later albums Mark King’s voice gets more refined, but it keeps that “working-man’s edge”; as a bassist + (poor) vocalist I love it. I can’t walk away from a tune singing like Gino Vanelli, Robert Palmer, Brad Delp, or Big Joe Williams. I can sing along with King very convincingly.

Mark King's vocal is very much a character voice in this track - he doesn't sing like that on the rest of their stuff.

They are not a one hit wonder band, they wrote and played many great songs.
    Love games
    The chinese way
    Hot water
    Leaving me now
    Something about you
    Lessons in love
    Running in the family
    It's over
    To be with you again
    Children say
    Heaven in my hands
    Guaranteed
    Forever now......to name a few
