As a diagnosed schizoid I would say the reason why we prefer to be hermits is because of anhedonia. There is no positive stimuli from social interactions for us. We can pick and choose (for me I contact my mother and brother few times a week) but most of socializing feels like chatting with an NPC; wasting time, let's skip.

The reason is that you cant connect. And you cant connect because youre disconneted from yourself. It still beats me, how a person can "function" like this, but obviously they can. Just not as a literal human being. I liked one video bringing up the "robot"-comparison. I think that is very helpful.
So the schizoid defense mechanism of withdrawal is really just to either not be bothered by others transfering emotions (from my experience can lead to feelings of disgust, because subjectively this feels like introject) or simply subjective boredom, because there is no schizoid sense to normal people. If you dont "have" emotions, surely you dont see them and thus find a chat based on emotions "boring" since - for YOU, there is nothing there. But really, youre just blind.
Sad, but true. Of course one might pick out actual boring people to confirm their world view. ;)
I have schizoid parts myself and came to this topic via my exwife who clearly is and my experience is: were SUPER convincing to ourselves and others. We usually go unnoticed, because we make so much sense. I described the transference when dealing with us like being hit with a brick (the sadistic subtype - which you showed some of) or running up against a wall (the avoidant subtype - my exwife).
How did I function? Well, it was just more comfortable to interpret people as boring or not trustworthy or weak, because they would make me feel uncomfortable about the parts hidden in me i didnt want to see. I would find joy in intellectual exercise instead. You sure see quite a bit of that in this comment, too :D

"chatting with an NPC" is the BEST descriptor! Thanks for that!

Thanks for calling us schizoids "stoic". I appreciate that massively and the date thing was so true. We're not very reactive and that combined with us being self aware of our peculiarity makes us quite covert, a lot of the time.

As a schizoid, the emotional drain accompanying ANY human interaction makes contact with others in any form undesirable. Married 24 years so far, and it has loads of challenges. Recently dx'd and rethinking everything my whole life. Dx is informing a higher level of negotiation and compromise which will be helpful, we hope. My head game involves exclusive dreams of solitude, isolation and complete hermitude, cabin deep in the woods where I can find peace, finally. My whole life is spent (consumed to exhaustion) in masking to avoid causing the pain to others that I have felt, particularly my kids. Looking forward to reading Empty Core - the name itself is an incredible description, and I hope it proves insightful.

      How did you become that

@@___Anakin.Skywalkerborn that way. My ex has this and no trauma, good parents. He hated being in a relationship and all that so I left him and he preferred that. He was honest and felt nothing, no emotions really nothing deep like not much empathy or care, he said life felt exhausting and just wanted to be alone and also dreamed of being a hermit. He was diagnosed with this and it made total sense.

50:30 Its like a shift of perceptions. Like one cannot say, you seem hopeful - thus connecting, but rather talking about a "green aura" to not get too close to the other person.

*These aren't personality disorders, they're adaptations to traumatic childhood circumstances*

The man who originally pioneered the cluster A personality disorders felt that they were all simply different parts of a spectrum of the same condition. That they weren't distinct conditions at all.

I have schizotypal and only interact with my spouse I’m a recluse and prefer it this way. I’m afraid when my spouse dies I’ll be homeless and die because I can’t interact with people to make an income. I worry everyday about it everyday. I’ll have to go to Canada to Maid.

Cluster a way worse than cluster b at least cluster bs are fun , sometimes the most dangerous too especially with comorbidities like serial killers
