  • You can steal any NPC armor without killing the NPC using Reverse Pickpocketing in Fallout New Vegas and in this video I will show you how.

    This also happens to bodies you looted, for example, placing your items in a human npc, to avoid being overencumbered; lose sight of the body for around 2-3 in-game days and return to their location (praying for them not to dissapear) and they'll equip the armor piece

      I had no idea. If true then you can do this to NPCs that might have accidentally got knocked out. Sadly I do think they bodies will be removed by the game but it's still worth checking. It also begs the question, if an NPC is dead, why not allow to loot their body without having to use the trick. Oh well, thanks anyway for sharing that. If it's true then it is actually something I did not know.

    Speaking of armor? Have you seen the space suit at the location for the ghouls by novac? I love the way it looks, exactly like a trauma suit

      Yeap, you can get your very own by going down to the bunker by starting the quest you get over there. I think it's a cool piece of kit.

      @@TrappedInFallout yeah I love it, but it's not required for the quest, I didn't find it till my 4th playthrough and when I found it I was all "omg it's just like the trauma suit from old world blues!'

I was actually reading up some stuff last night and to my surprise found out that the wasteland survival guide books in NV are a direct reference to the guide you create with Moira in FO3. So it goes to show that things between the two games will be similar or cross over.

      Yeap, your right. It's a really neat little trick that if used correctly can get you a fair number of weapons and kits without you having to take out any NPC.

      Steal the ammo, leave. Return. Steal unequipped gun. Or. Aggro. Shoot gun out of hand. Stealth boy. pick it up and run. Repair/enjoy

      @@K0LDER the problem with that is that some npcs with unique guns dont carry around ammo for some reason the stealth boy thing still works you will just lose reputation if they are with a group

      Same, I love doing this. Sometimes I actually do it not for the gear. I do it to give NPCs better gear just because I like them.

    You could do this with ranged weapons too. If you remove their ammo and provide a melee weapon they will switch to it

      Your absolutely right Reckless, you have a great memory. You can do the same thing in FO3 and that's because both FO3 and NV use the same game engine in the background.

    Grenades, etc deal bonus damage when reverse pickpocketed onto someone.

      I honestly had no idea. I know they deal the damage that they do but did not know that they also deal extra damage. Thanks for sharing that.

      I can't tell if its a flat bonus or it ignores dr and dt though. Even in Fallout 3, the super mutant overlords can nearly be one shotted by a hot pocket grenade on the highest difficulty.

    This is great but does this work with all NPC's? I tried with Hardin after making him the elder of the BOS but after leaving and loading he didn't change to the one I gave him. Which is weird because I did the exact same with McNamara before he got removed and it worked with him.

      This glitch is dependent on an NPCs items, kit etc. In theory it should but I don't think it will. For instance some NPCs might have hard coded items that can not be stolen/equipped by the player etc.

      @@TrappedInFallout The thing is that the Brotherhood elder's robes can be stolen, I did from McNamara. But I can't from Hardin. What I'm thinking is that maybe Hardin even after changing clothes still goes as if he's wearing the power armor instead of the elder's robe so that I'd have to give him something with higher DT than the power armor not the elder's robe.

      @@szelgorcs Yeah that makes sense. I tend to use Combat Armor as I have plenty from farming at The Gunners. And then use them. That said I don't think Combat Armor will out DT any Power Armor.

    I would normally steal ammo off npcs to steal their guns namely the boomer unique shotgun off old lady gibson. But oof at times i question if its worth it. If you want to die inside try stealing maria off bennie without killing him and watch how 100 stealth with a stealth boy does not really make much of a difference when it comes to pick pocketing unique gear. took me close to 100 tries thanks to my bad rng. Great video and a useful strat to get armor off npcs.

      Yeap, it's a really worthwhile trick that when done right you can get a fair few things. I use it all the time since I usually have a surplus of weapons and armors on me.

    I’ve watched a couple of these and still don’t understand it. What does the NPC equipping my armor give me?

      It'd basically a trade of getting their armor without taking out the NPC. Some NPC don't give you their armor after taking them out also. It's basically a safer way of getting an NPC armor while leaving the NPC alive.

      Theoretically yes but you can access your companions inventory so can just give them gear that way. But yes, it probably will since you can do this on almost any NPC.

      Yeap, it works, done it myself. You can also use the camera trick to take dad's uniform after he turns on the purifier.

      In a sense it actually is, it's just not really advertised anywhere so you don't really know about it unless you discover it from yourself or find out about it via a friend/forum. Or at least I don't remember reading about it in game anywhere.

      Well that's certainly the quicker way to do it. That said some Armor does not actually appear in an NPCs inventory after they have died so this might be your one way to get it.

      @@TrappedInFallout I tried it with with guns. does it work with guns? I want to snag "the terrible shotgun" without killing the vendor because he's useful. Any tips?

      @@thecricket1564 Theoretically it should. You would need to give a stronger weapon. Alternatively you can punch the vendor just once and when he draws the gun on you just shoot it out of his hands. Grab it off the floor and then run away. Coke back after 72 in game hours and he will be friendly again. You can use this method to get the gun and not take out the vendor.

      @@TrappedInFallout so I tried the same method in this video, I gave him a rocket launcher and what I had to do was steal his ammo , leave the area and travel to megaton then back. Once I went back I was able to snag his gun! Thanks for the video you're clutch live always for new players. It just took a lot of tries for me to snag his ammo loll.

    Sooo give him the 5000 value armor and take the 3 value armor …. Not seeing the value there.

      Loo your right. I actually only used this NPC to demo the mechanics. There are a number of NPC who have unique Armor therefore giving them something better grants you a unique kit. This also works on guns for the same reason.

      Item collectors, I presume. Or wanting some gear that has some other bonuses, or cool looks. This was most likely just a showcase for Fallout mechanics.

    Neat trick but you take poor quality Armor while giving away a good one. Is it worth swapping out for unique gear lol. I think it is based on what your want ha ha.

      It really depends. I do it to get unique gear and since there are lots of combat armor around it's not a bigge to me to just give it away.

    Great exploit. However its annoying af because pickpocket success is super trash even at 100 sneak.
    You can also steal weapons with this method. You simply steal thier ammo and reload the cell, or replace a melee with a stronger melee.

      I totally agree, it's not got a high success rate but it's pretty solid when it comes. It tends to work work on random NPCs but perhaps not as good on the more prominent ones around.
