If you really want to know why they’re leaving PLEASE just ask. Most will be happy to tell you why. If you want to know why millennials and gen-z are leaving YOU SHOULD ASK THEM. Ask the people who are leaving or have left. I’m sorry but people still in the church aren’t gonna get it. I AM a millennial with gen-z brothers. For years Ive read, researched, and actually talked to people my age and younger about why they left. Most leave because frankly, religion and religious people have a reeeeeeal image problem with the aforementioned generations. In America when people especially millennials or gen z hear “Christian” they think “evangelical “, particularly white evangelical. And when you read the research and see the terms millenials and gen z use to describe Christianity the words “hypocritical”, “closed-minded”, “homophobic”, “greedy”, “stubborn”, “hateful”, and “anti-science”, almost always come up. Millennials and gen z grew up in a VERY diverse environment where bigotry and prejudice are the worst crimes imaginable. They grew up with Jewish friends, Muslim friends, Latino friends, African American friends, gay friends, trans friends, and so on. This is probably the most diverse generation in American history. They don’t want to be affiliated with what they (rightly or wrongly) see as an exclusionary institution that doesn’t think their lgbtq friends deserve the right to marry. They don’t want to listen to a priest if the institution he serves covered up the sexual abuse of children. They don’t want to participate in a faith that thinks women shouldn’t be in leadership roles or need to be subservient to men. They don’t want to donate to a church that has a private jet but not a soup kitchen or homeless shelter. We also live in a world where the sum of all human knowledge is a click away. They can look up the age of the earth with evidence to back it up. They can read historical records that contradict the Bible. They can talk to others who are questioning or doubting and not feel alone in their skepticism. They can read about and find a faith more in line with their own personal moral code and run with that. Most people don’t feel like they need religion to want to be a good person they use their empathy to guide them. It’s honestly more a cultural difference and I don’t see this changing any time soon. The Christian culture and gen-z/millennial culture believe and want VERY different things. Most denominations aren’t going to change and millennials and gen z aren’t going to either. I think this decline is here to stay and will continue. Loading up kids on apologetics ain’t gonna cut it. I keep hoping you guys read this and start to listen. This sounds more accusatory and angry than I mean it to because you guys are trying, I can tell you’re trying and you really want to know why this is happening and what can be done. Truly. It’s a good first step. But the next step should be listening to those that aren’t in the bubble, those that are leaving/gone.
Thank you for sharing this comment and for all the work you have been doing. I personally resonate with a lot of what you have written here. Thank you❤
I'm not so sure of that. It seems millenials are becoming more and more brainwashed by the devil's lie that socialism is a good thing and that the church and Christians are the enemy. That's why they're falling away from the truth more now than ever before.
I would argue that the younger generation are brainwashed the most. To the point where they’d argue that their environment and what they consume doesn’t influence their values and beliefs
People don't want religion and churches aren't teaching believers how to make disciples. We need the Holy Spirit to fulfill the great commission, not religion.
Thank you for beginning to look at this issue and starting this conversation. It can be an immensely painful experience for all involved. Who is abandoning who?
I don't know everything and I don't know of any evidence for the biblical god. I don't hear a voice in my head. I don't see angels or demons. All I see is grown adult flopping around like a fish while speaking incoherently.
Also, the churches in the Bible didn't just pray for people, they actually tried to be as helpful as they could. Praying to God doesn't mean anything if you can't actually commit to helping people.
Millennials 6 out of 10 are taking off so we made a focus group of believing Millennials and ask them to vaguely mention what the problem might be and then we talked about one Church in Virginia. What a hard-hitting piece. Yep must be stubbornness making people feel unsatisfied with the church
I left because I am pro-LGBTQIA and Pro-feminist. Christianity speaks to neither. They condemn the gays and lesbians usually. And more over I just lost interest- I don't want to be accountable to a church.
Tbh the only thing I like the church is one pastor who actually have common sense about the world. I'm no longer a Christian, but I still respect that one person.
The fact that over half of Christians and 4/5 white evangelicals oppose the love that Jesus commanded plays a large role in society walking away from church.
The church is not a building or a denomination, we people are the body of Christ or his Church. My heart is the altar and my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Lol Drumming and Singing inside the church, if 300 years ago Christians comeback today, they surely gonna declare a crusade against the modern day Christian.
Yes there are churches who are talking about it. Jesus died for the church. I am a millennial and the real issue is PRIDE. FORGIVE omg. That same forgiveness and understanding you want, give it to the church Jesus died for. You are only fooling yourselves. I’m not sugar coating this.
Four people on the panel, only two of them spoke. Which two panelists had no voice in the segment? The segment shows a single (-seeming) Caucasian woman clutching a brown baby.
She's been impregnated by a Black man. But where is he? Churches now are more interested now in interracial marriage to show that they are hip and cool.
Lack of evidence for the existence of God.
Many churches are not about the gospel but about prosperity. I have better chances of having awesome encounters with God in my room than in church.
Said like a Buddhist .

Jeez idk, maybe I’ll take some time in between my slave wage jobs to ask my pastor on his private jet...
Younger generation doesnt get brainwashed easily

@@christiandenault7606 millennials found science and stayed
@@christiandenault7606 No it’s just easy to disprove the silly claims of Christians quite easily thanks to easy access to information.

@@JDrocks4ever I agree completely
The bible is filled with contradictions and fallacies. That's a huge chunk of it.
@Duke E To be honest facts and evidence go a long way.
People don't want religion and churches aren't teaching believers how to make disciples. We need the Holy Spirit to fulfill the great commission, not religion.
This segment didn't even attempt to answer the question in the title; Why Millennials are abandoning the church.
Stop it!?... I'm counting on it!

You are saying you need to keep the relationship but if you don't have the relationship how can you keep it
and yet they dont ask the people that left the church lol but this is good more people are leaving religion
I left because I am pro-LGBTQIA and Pro-feminist.

I left because of judgment
I am part of the production team
Mormons and JW's are leaving too.
Judges 2
I don't believe in religious churches they're also not in the Bible.
Less religion would be a good thing.
👍👍👍👍
Wrong as usual
Lol Drumming and Singing inside the church, if 300 years ago Christians comeback today, they surely gonna declare a crusade against the modern day Christian.
Formula? How about repent of your sin and ask Jesus Christ into your heart. Count the cost first though.
Yes there are churches who are talking about it.
Jesus died for the church.
I am a millennial and the real issue is PRIDE.
FORGIVE omg. That same forgiveness and understanding you want, give it to the church Jesus died for.

What?
...should I talk about to you on why I left organized religion?
Four people on the panel, only two of them spoke. Which two panelists had no voice in the segment? The segment shows a single (-seeming) Caucasian woman clutching a brown baby.

The churches need to form small groups like Jesus have 12 disciples... But not only in churches but also in schools, universities, workplaces....
The Church is more interested in tolerance than Salvation
Funny. I left the church because of the hate and intolerance.
That’s strange. Almost everyone I spoke to in my interviews said the church is TOO hateful and intolerant.
