  • Highlights from Newcastle forward Joelinton during the 19/20 campaign at Newcastle. The Brazilian has struggled in his first season in English football after his £40 million move from Hoffenheim, netting just 3 goals, and has been subject to scrutiny from both fans and pundits throughout the season

Anyone can appear to be a flop playing out of position, don't get me wrong I've been very unimpressed with his season, but you can see from these clips that he plays best picking the ball up from deep and running at the defence, not with his back to goal playing on the shoulder of the last man. Really want him to do well but in our current system he's not being used properly. Shame though because Almiron plays his best football as a #10 which is probably where Jo would like to play, Jo was used as a left winger at Hoffenheim or as part of 2 upfront, our current squad probably wouldn't cope with 2 strikers as well as ASM & Almiron on the pitch together, the midfield just wouldn't be able to deal with the work at current.
If we brought in a proper striker to be the main forward along with a proper CM to partner Hayden it would mean Jo could drop deeper and rotate with Almiron out wide where one of them could attack the space in the centre.
Be interesting to see what happens in the summer.

He's been awful tbh. These are just clips from good moments he's had. When you actually watch him you realise that his first touch is usually awful. He doesn't provide much. He's scared to even enter the box. He can't shoot on target when he does get the opportunity. It's not our defenders jobs to score but they seem to do it well so there isn't an excuse for it tbh. He's blew alot of good chances. Only thing I would say he provides is aerial support but still can't score with his head lol

  • @TreySinatra

It’s just that he’s all alone up front with Newcastle’s super defensive system it’s hard for him to score many goals because he gets no support from his teammates, they should switch from 5-4-1 to a 5-3-2. Now that they signed Wilson they should pair start them both up front. Callum & Joelinton can play off each other & I guarantee that they will be much better than last year. Last year they were almost last in goals, possession, and they chose to drop off they rarely pressed. So when they regained possession they would play long balls to joelinton who had to gain possession and sometimes it took too long for his teammates to make forward runs. He can’t do it all by himself. This vid shows his special dribbling ability, strength, speed, hard work rate, I’m still a joelintton fan & I can’t wait for him to prove the haters wrong this coming season! Personally I like the kid. He’s young, adapting to the league. I reckon he could be a great player. As plenty have said when he has the support he looks menacing. A 4-3-3 would suit us. Could have had: Dubravka, Willems, Lascelles, Fernandez, Shelvey, Hayden, Almiron, St Max, Joelinton, Lazaro. Wouldn’t have been a bad shout I don’t think. He needs a coach who understands the attacking side of the game a bit more. We’ve heard it said Bruce doesn’t really go for tactics and likes to offer a bit more freedom. I’d even consider giving him a loan out to a championship side. Get his English game worked on. Give him a bit of time and our team a bit of work and you’ll see him start repaying the tag. Which also often looms over players heads

    • @NUFCcomps

Let's not forget, he's still a young player, has scope for improvement and he's not being played in a way that helps him, it reminds me of how Ayoze Perez was stuck on his own up front under John Carver, and he claimed he was the best manager in the league! Perez played a lot better under other managers that played him in a way that suited him.
Everytime abusive videos towards Joelinton come out like this one, how does that come across to potential future signings.

Thought he’d be one of the signings of the season when Newcastle brought him in, safe to say he vastly disappointed pretty much everybody but he’s clearly a decent player and once he gains confidence in the right system he will surely shine

Absolutely disgusting failure on Tyneside. Horrible player. Something fishy with the 40m transfer too. Probably some tax fraud scam. Even in the Bundesliga he wasn't that good. Crap technically and unable to finish or create.
Now I've slagged him off he's gonna come good, just like what happened with Ollie Watkins.
