What are your thoughts on the article? Is vehicle based travel just a big disappointment?
Just discovered your channel. Really like your style of storytelling . Refreshingly authentic , non-influencer / commercial. Ver relatable engaging and informational. Keep adventuring and sharing.
Awesome video guys !!!
We love “traveling “ along with you.
Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing!
thx for sharing your adventure! Great build on the Sequoia! Awesome. Be safe
The east coast is notorious for being over regulated with limited places to camp for the night. That being said if they had time to make the trip they could’ve planned to head out west just a bit and they may have had a different outcome. I like the chill reviews
California and the extreme west coast of Oregon and Washington are the same: Private or heavily regulated public land.
Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico are all much more open to lightly regulated public use. I have utilized those quite often.
This is really great. People writing articles complaining about a thing they apparently did no research about aren't exactly the brightest people ever haha.
Haha yeah the article is an amusing read. We barely scratched the surface of the misconceptions that he wrote.
love the videos! picking up my 05 sequoia on Saturday looking forward to getting out there.
Welcome to the squad.
Pretty cool shot of the Sequoia in the river above the falls
Happy Birthday! It's too bad you planned your trip too well not to have a celebrity cameo appearance of Matt!
Good to see the Sequoia being bored and not breaking a sweat. I took mine 4000 miles to Florida and back with no issues. No opportunity for it to get dirty, but it did make it to the beach! Hope to make it to Pikes Peak later this year.
Hi guys. I am a new subscriber. I just found you while searching for Sequoia's and thought I need to look at a couple of more video's. So you want to learn to track. Keep doing what you are doing and you will. The ones I have watched so far have been fun and from a genuine view point. Referring to the article... Well everything is out there if you are will to pursue it. Life doesn't just knock on your door. You have to live it. Well done.
Great video! Happy Birthday!!
Love the T1C sticker 👌🏼
Happy birthday! Glad you had a good time!
Absolutely incredible music choices. Love everything about your videos and channel.
Thanks! Means a lot!
Definitely wirth 1000%. Thanks for showing n sharing your exciting n wow trips. 😅
Subbed, great to stumble upon this channel
I think this is my first time seeing a true video of a Sequoia off roading/overlanding, that's awesome! My dad owns a '05 2WD version but I've always wondered how capable the Actual car is as I barely see these on dirt. Great camera work and content, keep it up I enjoy your adventures
Every bit as capable as a Tundra from this generation as they are literally a Tundra from this gen with a body instead of a bed, which we all know those Tundras are bulletproof horses in the backcountry!
Happy birthday dude!
Happy Birthday bud!
Great story in relation with that article
Just added Toquerville Falls to my list of places to visit in Utah.
Love Zion, probably one of my favorite places to visit. Angel's Landing is a spectacular hike.
We’ve done angels landing before and loved it. We would have considered doing it on this trip but didn’t bring our micro spikes sadly.
Love the startup sound @4:00. My own V8 4Runner sounds the same.
Ever in the Denver Colorado area I can show you some amazing spots. I also have an 05 sequoia limited 4wd so it would make a cool sequoia video.
There's a very old establishment here in Alberta called the overlanders lodge. It's a pretty expensive place to stay and has a very long history of lodging overlanders, like the real overlanders with wagons or trucks from the early 1900s.
Its not really cheating. What's cheating is the roads in between destinations.
Wait Toquerville oh its spelled differently that is sounds. okay, I better stop now. Love your videos! Van life -First Gen in the south west or West coast is great!
Dude. You almost went down the waterfall. That is a cool spot
Thanks! It was an awesome place to visit.
The great thing about the internet is that it gives anyone the ability to publish an article about anything.
The bad thing about the internet is that it gives anyone the ability to publish an article about anything.
Awesome video! and you came clean so it wasn't cheating lol
Do I smell a Burton snowboards sponsorship in your future????
Thanks! I feel bad I published Laiken’s snowboarding clips without mentioning that I (Dillon) would have been way worse if I tried on a pair of skis.
I just got a very clean 04 Sequoia SR5 4X4. My question is on a normal highway drive the 4L N 4H lever, what position should be selected on highway where 4wd is not necessary? If I select the N down there and put the car in drive it doesn’t engage.
The animal detection mode portion is hilarious but sad for her! No tracks :(
Can't fix stupid my friends 😁...my apologies...Happy birthday 🎂
Would it be useful to remove the rear seats in the sequoia to make more room for storage? Maybe do a side drawer system?
It would be, but I (Dillon) still daily drive the sequoia and don't want to lose the second row. Sometimes we need to put friends back there
headed out west in a couple months, Atlanta to Austin, friends house for a rest, To el paso again buddy's house for a nice shower and rest. So northern N Mex and se Utah.. Any best stops along the way?? Thinking Zion or Arches.
oh Lifted Land Cruiser....
The biggest mistake is to believe that renting an expensive van provides a magic wand. At the end a vehicle is just a tool. Of course a good 4x4 van would bring much more creature comfort into an expedition-like multi-week trip, but a SUV or a truck with a canopy is more that enough to enjoy the nature for a few days. It is all about research and advance planning.
Off topic: I'd be very curious to see how you guys operate with your bed having so tiny head space! :)
Totally agree! Honestly, we have decent headroom still. Even with the platform and bed set up like this, we can still pretty much sit up in bed and I (Dillon) only have to duck my head a little bit. The sequoia is very big and very tall.
yyyooo lol not every night. I watched that twice
If you put a 1.5" spacer lift and 31s on the highlander hybrid, would it be able to go to the falls without driving too aggressively?
If I had to take a guess, I would imagine you’d scrape/high center/cause some damage.
I’ve slept hundreds of nights in my 4runner. But I stay out west and Mexico. If you look toward the East coast there isn’t the massive public lands available in the west. His article was probably pretty accurate, then factor in a rental, luxury van and no 4x4 and the backroad options are even less. Vehicle travel isn’t for everyone and I’m always amused how many “vanlifers” consistently sleep in parking lots. If my travels consisted of sleeping in parking lots I would have quit long ago.
Are you still running a rear sway bar? I removed mine with long travel shocks but am thinking about putting it back on.
We took ours off and haven't regretted it one bit. The rear axle flexes SO well now, and we really don't notice a difference on the road.
@@TheFraziers yeah it doesn't roll too bad with still having the front on but I do drive on the highway quite a bit at speeds around 80mph. With higher speeds like that and having the vehicle loaded you have to watch the fast lane changes or safety maneuvers.
What year is your sequoia?
Which lens for the shallow walking shots in the canyon?
The lumix 50mm 1.8. I love it. Best 50 I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned a lot of them lol
@@TheFraziers that is awesome!!!
Been using the 24 f1.8 and have been totally obsessed with it, might have to buy the 50 next. Kinda just want all the S primes.
@@jakefelzien nice! The 24mm is next on my list likely. I watched your review of it. Looking good.
@@TheFraziers oh very cool! Thanks! ☺️
How has the Sequoia been? Running Good?
Yup! Still going strong!
👍
With your lift suspension tires and rack. What are you getting MPGs on the highway out of curiosity. Mine is still bone stock and trying to keep the gas mileage as much as possible. Which I know is a joke cuz the gas mileage is not that good but I drive to California all the time from Washington State!
Mine is lifted and tires and its atrocious lol but its an epic vehicle and it is what it is
We have 255/80/17s and I'm pretty certain it helps a little bit. We get about 16-17 highway if we drive conservatively.
@@TheFraziers that's not too bad you for 33 inch tires. The best I ever got in my Sequoia mine's all stock was 19 MPGs. Even though the gauge was reading 21. I did the math and it was 19 but that's was 60 to 65 mph. Once I went 75 to 85 mph in California I was getting 15 MPGs
@@TheFraziers unfortunately I'm doing a motor swap right now. I will do it later video when I have everything together of what everything cost and why stuff went wrong. Mine's the 2002 limited. My first mod will be after the engine swap I think it's going to be ARB lockers on the rear. I tend to push it a little bit off-roading so. I broke my Nissan I broke Jeeps. So I've learned what I can get away without breaking so. I think the locker will save me from breaking the Sequoia.
@@ricky_ricardo I got the Sequoia for it being known for some okay off road capability and lots of space. Ultimately I'd want to four wheel drive van but I don't have 20 or $30,000 to get one that's set up. Also the gas mileage on those vans is not too good. So Sequoia is the closest thing to a four wheel drive van with the most amount of space. That's the way I look at it!
I wish the East Coast had more BLM land specifically in the South east. We have a lot of National Forest land but it can be hit or miss depending on where you are
Sadly most of them doesn’t allow vehicles
Please please PLEASE for the love of the 4.7l 2uz please let that thing warm up for at least 1 minute. You and your toy will thank you
No
@@TheFraziers it's only a lack of information. Once you learn more you will realize your error.
@@turkylips333 eh it’s not that I don’t know, it’s that I don’t care. It’s a 16 year old car. I’m not going to baby it.
@@turkylips333 I thought Scotty Kilmer and every other expert debunked that old wives tale. They say as long as the oil pressure is up, it’s okay to start driving easy. Am I missing something about this that’s specific to the 2uzfe?
Great video but no there's no BLM land on the east coast or even much east of the mississipi.
No, but there’s often forest land and wildlife recreation areas. They also often allow free camping. The point also wasn’t that the east has tons of free camping. The point is that driving from one big east coast city to another is not a great plan if you intend to enjoy scenic natural beauty.
Do you wear your Mormon magic underwear while overlanding?
We aren’t Mormons but good try 👍
🍀 Promo'SM.
Yeah if your down south or out west.. it's easy to camp anywhere.. There is No literally almost no blm land or free camping land in my area and if you do park anywhere remotely private expect a visit from the police... You have to go way up to Maine way up in VT or way up in NY and you might get lucky .. anywhere from Virginia up to mass forget about maybe you can get away with it in Virginia in parts nothing like outwest it's compacted city after city
