  • I finally introduced Baby Metal to this old guy. Rondo of Nightmare....of course the live version with the amazing solos before the song. The old guy was amazed. He loved the fusion of the voice with the heavy metal and said it was totally his style. I was so happy about that. The song was awesome!

I have been a metalhead for about 35 years now, and I too have grown tired of constant aggression in music. I like melodic, dynamic music. And BABYMETAL is perfect in that regard. The cute and poppy parts in their songs are beautiful by themselves, but they also make the heavy parts feel much more intense. In the same vein, I usually don't like growls, but the way BABYMETAL use them, sparingly at the right time and more like an effect, I can really appreciate them.

I agree. Variety is the spice of life. Album to album, song to song, and even within a song. It’s hard to find another group that mixes it up as well as Babymetal.

Kamiband : We're gonna blow your minds with our awesome solos!
Sumetal : Hold my matcha latte....
Love watching Hideki in this, when they pan to him in the beginning, he looks like he's just casually drumming and not responsible for the pounding in the solo. Most singers might get intimidated having to follow the spectacular performance by the Kamiband, but 16yr old Su just gets up there, and shows you why Babymetal was built around her. 🤘🦊🤘

    Welcome back to the Foxhole.🦊🤘🔥
Glad to see you're back with another guest and introducing BM with this suggestion over a song composed by YuppeMetal (aka Yuyoyuppe), you'll hear more songs from him, he's also behind "Karate", the arrangements of Megitsune (another must watch) and more new songs from latest album like Monochrome and Believing.
Akumu No Rondo combines not only heaviness with dark waltz and dope time signatures changes but also delicate and fragile beautiness that makes you want to grab your inception kit and go to rescue this 16 yo queen from this nightmare.
Temporarily title song was "* The Alice" so is like Alice but instead of Wonderland she's trapped in a nightmare trying to escape and avoid some evil entity.
Rondo is a musical form in which you can hear a repetitive pattern, you can hear an example of this in the song "Blue Rondo a la Turk".
The Kami Band is doing their second magnificent intro of the night with their own set called "Mischiefs Of Metal Gods". They become regular after this special live at Budokan 2014 and leaving baby-bones, from early shows, behind, shout-out to them thou.
You already know them from your previous reaction, such Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
This was the day (night) after the first live premiere of this song and she's dancing and performing like she already did a dozen times before, like a pro. Also she's showing some fierceness here dancing on that high dangerous mini stage with no wire and that's how she keeps winning everyone's heart.
But not everything was perfect here despite their impeccable performance and sound, and the day before the girls face that dangerous challenge on the stage, taking their own revenge after coming back in 2021 to celebrate their 10 years and leaving those ghosts behind, fortunately.
Like i said, YuppeMetal is the one behind this song and he took inspiration from "Protest The Hero - Bloodmeat" song, of course i recommend you to hear that blaster song.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful SuMetal solo and my favorite along with "Akatsuki" The other solos are great too and those are:
    - No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S 2017
    - Amore live at Wembley Arena 2016.
And of course the rest of the girls under a subgroup called "Black Babymetal" are enjoyable too, they're taking a break here while SuMetal is performing to come back later, so don't miss out their other 4 songs too like:
    - "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas got that clip safe to react.
    - "Song 4" or "4 No Uta" live at Budokan 2014.
    - "GJ!" live at Wembley Arena 2016
    - "Sis Anger" live at Tokyo Dome 2016".
    Next suggestion:
    - METALIZM official MV, don't worry about being blocked, none of the new singles at official are getting any trouble.
    See you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction and good job introducing your guests to BABYMETAL. 🦊🤘This was one of Su-metal's solo songs (Yuimetal and Moametal were getting a break from all the dancing back stage).
The Kami band's instrumental intro is called 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods'. Yes they have 2 lead guitars. In order of solos they were Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums).
There can't be many 16 year olds who could follow that intro and then just take over the whole stage and arena the way Su-metal did.
Su-metal can make you feel the emotion of a song even if you don't speak a word of the language, but as your guest was curious and is a lyric guy, 'Rondo of Nightmare' is possibly the darkest of their songs lyrically.
I understand rondo is a musical term denoting a repeated theme - something like that anyway. I believe they borrowed the term for the title of this song as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness by something she can't see. Eventually she hides, but it is still coming closer. Knowing there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least reveal itself to her.
This is one of 4 Su-metal solos, two on each of the first two albums. The others are 'Akatsuki', 'Amore' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow'. Yui and Moa would get a break while Su performed those - Su would get a break when Yui and Moa performed one of their duets - they were called Black BABYMETAL for those and they also had two on each of the first two albums (4 No Uta' or Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen', 'GJ' and 'Sis Anger').

Strictly speaking, the Babymetal name is 2 fold: it's a play on words, in Japanese they pronounce and write Babymetal and Heavy metal the same way: hebimetal and bebimetal.
And it's a birth of a new genre.
It's not about the age or their voices.
Kobametal said the name came to him by a vision or something along those lines. 🙂

I paid more for Babymetal tickets this month than I've ever paid for any other concert ever, and I've seen 1000s of sets of bands I legit loved and had CDs of, and it was worth every cent. Took my former bandmate to see it and asked him to go in blind, and he was definitely like "whatever dude, I'm just doing this because we're friends" to being somebody I caught looking them up on Spotify and asking me if they've always been as fucking good as what we just saw.
Would do it again in a heartbeat, I went through a similar arc. Went for free and was like "whatever it'll be OK I guess" to "holy shit was that the best show I've ever seen!?" in the course of like 90 minutes, without warning.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。"Rondo" is a musical form with a recurring leading theme. I can't tell how many times I have viewed this video. It is literally a rondo of happy dream for me. Kamis' (=Gods') super solos were excellent enough as a main event in the show, but once the 16-year-old Queen (as of 2014) emerged from the underground, she colored everything differently with her penetrating voice then turned Kami Band's plays into a ritual to summon her.
Please tell your old friend the following :
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Rondo of Nightmare is one of the 4 songs SU-METAL does on her own. YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL were backstage, resting, rehydrating and catching up on some homework.
    BABYMETAL has three meanings:
    1) Japanese wordplay on Heavy Metal. Only the forst syllable/kanji is slightly different.
    2) Birth of a new genre. They call it Kawaii (cute) Metal.
    3) During their live debut, the three girls were 12, 11 and 11 years old.

    • @Haegemon
      @Haegemon Před 4 měsíci

Yui and Moa had their own 4 songs within the brand Black Babymetal to allow the same resting, hydratation and homework catch up for Suzuka. 😁
Indeed they debuted at young age. It was whithin Sakura Gakuin, a Japanese idol group which Babymetal was a subunit. But at that time Suzuka had debuted in a previous group a couple years before which sang the songs for an anime series, and she had already shoot commercials with only 4 yo. Five years before she was signed with her talent agency after she placed 2nd on an audition.

Love the theme of this channel - old guys being introduced and reacting to new stuff. I'm always trying to get my fellow old-guy friends to break out from their 60's and 70's rock genre's (not that that stuff isn't great). Babymetal is a real test of brain plasticity - can your old neurons deal with this completely new yet familiar in some ways music? My favorite performance to start people out with is the 2014 Sonisphere performance of Ijime, Dame, Zettai- their first performance for a western audience where 90% of the crowd had no idea who they were - but they win the crowd over.
Another Japanese band I've found very talented and appealing to old guys is Nemophila - particularly their covers of old tunes from the likes of Iron Maiden and AC/DC.

I'm 66 and yeah, I like Classic Rock still when in the mood, but man, I was around when it came out and have listened to it for decades. I like variety. Five Finger Death Punch, to Dua Lipa, Panic at the Disco, Punjabi, Celtic, and so many things in between. If it gets your inner self reacting in a good way, enjoy.

The performance by the band solo is great. However, as soon as the vocal appears and starts singing, everyone gasps at her beauty and recognizes that she is the protagonist.❤
BABYMETAL was created to make use of her talent in 2010(When she was 13 years old) by the largest listed entertainment company in Japan.
I think you guys should conquer Queen's 4 solo songs. 😁
    ①Akatsuki
    ②No rain no rainbow
    ③Rond of nightmare(finished)
    ④Amore

Nice reaction and nice job introducing a friend to the foxhole. This is the performance that put Babymetal over the top for me. Su's stage presence here is outstanding. I didn't know as much about them as I do today. Su is the reason Babymetal exist. Kobe came up with the plan for it. But without Su he had nowhere to go with it. The vision he had must have been incredible. He saw Su when she was just 10. Singing with Karen Girls. She was the youngest of a trio in a jpop group. They sang songs for an anime the group was named after. Who looks at a 10-year-old and thinks She's going to front a metal band? Well, Koba did. And there are many, including myself who are very glad he did. This song lyrically is most likely their darkest song. A real nightmare of a tale. Being chased through the night by a creature and all you can see is the moonlight flash off his fangs and claws. You run and here and there. Through the forest it keeps chase. You find a fountain to hide in. But it finds you. The stage theatrics are crazy in this part as the lighting makes it look like Su is dangling in the air. While the creature has its hold on you. You muster the strength to ask it to reveal itself. And with that you fall into the darkness. And the song ends suddenly as you wake up. You forgot. It's a recurring Nightmare. I always hoped that none of them really had this nightmare. Cause that is some scary sh__ well you know what I mean. The Kamibands intro to this is incredible. Babaymetal fans always look forward to when they get the time to shine. They were still underage at this time and had to follow child labor laws. which means they had to take a break after being on stage for a length of time. Yui and Moa took their break first. Su did this solo song. and Then She took a break and Yui and Moa did a duo song. When they perform together without Su. They became the subunit. Black Babymetal. They have four songs as Black Babymetal. And Su has four solo songs. Moa has done to of those songs as solo songs since Yui left in 2018. Now that Momometal is with them. Will we see the return of Black Babymetal? Well, we already know what they'll say about that. Only The Fox god Knows. lol. I hoped you warned your friend that all Babymetal songs are different and the next one he watches will be different from this one. Especially when Yui and Moa are with her. Or if it's Su and her M&Ms. Moa and Momoko. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

I'm still wrapping my head around it, but yeah. The whole group does some pretty sweet stuff. A good mix. Like the one guy said, some 70s heavy metal and a good fusion across the styles. This is the first time I saw (Su is it?) going solo for the whole song. Quite the voice.

  • @road-runner
    @road-runner Před 11 měsíci +21

    Good reaction, thanks!
"Rondo of Nightmare" is probably their darkest song lyrically. It's about Su being trapped into an endless nightmare, without any chance to escape, and she's chased by a dark entity as she tries to run away and hide from. Finally she gives up and ask the entity to show its real nature.
This was just the second time they performed it live (the first one was just the previous night at the same venue) and Su-metal, being 16 at the time, was standing by herself on a relatively small and high platform, without any safety and probably not being able so see a thing due the spotlight. This is so metal!
And about their name, is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were 12 and 11 years old so, it probably had something to do). The name was chosen for two main reasons:
    - To symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal).
    - Because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is very similar to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love puns):
    BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
    heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)

Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro (Nippon Budokan Black Night):-
This is one of 4 Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) solo songs. The other 3 are:-
    1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena).
    2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX).
    3. "Akatsuki" (Same Venue, Nippon Budokan Black Night)
Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of God Intro:-
    Babymetal:-
Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band, consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal" (Scream and Dance), Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" (Scream and Dance) left Babymetal in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues. The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
    KamiBand:-
"The KamiBand are the instrumentalists (or backing band) in BABYMETAL - Each member is a "god (Kami) of music" summoned by The Fox God stage by stage. All the Kamis have their own jobs and side-projects in addition to BABYMETAL".
Current Members Who Perform At Nippon Budokan:-
•Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar, ESP SNAPPER-7/R Gold & Twinkle Pink).
•Leda Cygnus (Guitar, ESP BLUE CUSTOM).
    •Daisuke 'BOH' Bohte (Bass, ATELIER Z BETA 6, Boh'S CUSTOM 6).
•Aoyama Hideki (Drums, YAMAHA Signature Drum Kit).
BABYMETAL is the youngest act to perform at the Budokan and artists need to be invited to perform there.
Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE AT BUDOKAN ~RED NIGHT & BLACK NIGHT APOCALYPSE~) is the third live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. It contains two concerts performed at Nippon Budokan shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album, and was released on January 7, 2015 in a standard edition and a limited-edition box set exclusively for "The One" fanclub members.
    Nippon Budokan:-
Nippon Budokan (日本武道館, Nippon Budōkan), often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues.
A number of famous rock music acts have played at Budokan. The Beatles were the first rock group to play there in a series of concerts held between June 30 and July 2, 1966. ABBA ended their last tour there. Their final show on March 27, 1980, was the last live concert ABBA performed together. Numerous acts have recorded live albums at Budokan, including Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Kiss, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Journey and Deep Purple.

    Lyrics Overview:-
"Rondo Of Nightmare (悪夢の輪舞曲; Akumu No Rondo)"

    [English:]
The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade
    The laughter resounds around
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam
    I can’t escape from it
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but run
    through the darkness
In the woods, in the fountain
I hide myself holding my breath
but it’s still coming closer to me
A stagnant voice. An endless night
    Ah…
If I can no longer get out of here
won’t you show me your figure?
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but fall
    into the darkness
This song Su-Metal brings you to the dark side and tells you a story thru the journey and it enticed you.

One song I have not seen many people react to is one of my personal favorites, Distortion, though it could be because of the amazingness that the music video is. I've been traveling down the fox hole of seeing people's absolute confusion, turning into absolute delight and I absolutely love it. It's always so amazing to see people enjoying the wonder that is Babymetal, and I am so happy to see someone loving them so much to show them off to others. Another highly recommended song is BxMxC (BMC/Babymetal Cypher). I can't wait to see what song you discover and show off next.

If you haven’t seen Road of Resistance live in Tokyo, you REALLY should. Or, The One music video. It shows how much more incredible they are live.
And that’s just scratching the surface. If you listen to their 3rd album, each song has a different genre of music that they take and make a metal song from it. Anything from Indian Instrumentation to a Sea Shanty.
Plus there is the song iine (I wrote it lowercase because people mistake the upper case I for a lowercase L), which has pop, EDM, rap, and metal elements all in one, and that song was on their first album, so they’ve been doing it since then beginning.

This was a Suzuka Nakamoto solo LIVE performance.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

The Beefy Silver Fox has a genuine understanding of metal, but was this the best introduction to baby metal? Gimmee Chocolate seemed the obvious choice to an intro. This particular piece was more about a well deserved nod to the amazing band. I hope you have your great guest back, when he is not starring in harry Potter movies obviously. Don't want to upset JK.
