instructions unclear: accidentally make smissmas sweater skin on every weapon
you monster
Valve: 15% cut and I'll add it.
I ain't gonna lie, I unironically like smissmass sweater and I don't know why
@@HighPriestessGabagool609 tbh if the red part doesnt have any pattern/texture, Smissmas Sweater has great colors

when the shutterstock watermark warpaint
LMAO
This but replace the shutterstock logo with the TF logo
32:42 you don't need to do these in order to hide your viewmodel, there's a console command for that.
"r_drawviewmodel 0"
Also, for checking if your texture is seamless, there's a tool for that in Photoshop called Pattern Preview under the view tab, saves you a lot of hassle with seams.
Hope this helps.
OKAY I JUST GOT DONE WATCHING.
Hands down the most detailed video I've seen on this topic and I'm quite impressed how you managed to compress what would've been hours into 40 minutes. I never appreciated warpaints in all honestly since their introduction in the Jungle Inferno update, and always preferred the decorated weapons. This year though when I discovered your channel I started to learn to appreciate them, and I hope other creators will start using this video as an example on making quality warpaints. Otherwise I really enjoy this style of videos, a perfect contrast to your clip dumps :p
Thank you for doing this, it's easily the most in-depth video guide for making warpaints.
Buba saw Zesty here
omg it’s the guy from that one video
@@realnito6422 from what video
Hello Jesus
omg is the guy from fortnite
Crazy how the dude who does tf2 pub comp videos puts out a 40 minutes masterpiece thats better than 75% of the current workshop :O
Fun fact: For Gimp, you can add a mask layer that functions like an alfa channel.
This video alone made me want to start making war paints myself
Thanks for this, the community needs more people who genuinely care about the game like you do
while i don't have any plans on making warpaints for the game, i am an artist and i want to thank you for putting a spotlight on the TF2 brush pack. ive been struggling looking for good texture brushes for ages now and i never knew i needed this until you showed first hand what it could do. thank you!
The Borderlands music goes hard. Good tutorial. Very well-made, professional, and in-depth.
This is not a video I expected, but this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time
dude NICE CHOICE OF MUSIC
the borderlands soundtrack is absolutely going into my tf2 playlist
I am going to use this knowledge to create the most dastardly, disgusting, despicable warpaints that mankind will witness
Videos like these are very good for the future of the game. Outside of teaching how warpaints should be made. It also can give people a base for when they vote in the workshop. There should be guides for things none gameplay related, since anyone can submit anything in to the workshop and get accepted by the pretty low standard of the devs now at days.
Now that's a thing I didn't expect to see on this channel. Nice
Dude the guy litteraly said it 5 Times in his latest videos
@@taste5728 YOU CAN MOVE A MOUNTAIN IF YOU DO IT BRICK BY BRIIIIICK
Lol the tab at 36:33 says "Harassment" instead of "comments". When I saw it I laughed so hard about this joke.😁
I already have an idea for a team-colored warpaint, but didn’t know how or where to start, so thank you for this!
20:57 great taste in music Mönkey
One of the most detailed videos I've seen on the matter and I'm glad you did not skip over the artstyle and colouring bit of the video. War paints are probably the easiest way for people to get an item to the game and thus, often treated like an afterthought. I hope this video will encourage people to make quality content with soul. In-depth tutorials like these gets new ideas for war paints out there!
Mönkey this is the best video you have made so far. The editing is great, music matches it very good. And it was super helpfull, and i always wondered how i make warpaints.
Hi Mönkey, please stop browning on my bed, it cant take anymore shid.
Thanks for Making this, its just too good. Very informative. Rock Solid work 👍
Mönkey casually making a really good war paint
Thank you very much, worth the wait
Very nice in depth tutorial, definitely gonna save this video for later just in case I get the urge to try make a warpaint. I know this isn't related in the slightest but I would like to see someone make a video on making custom weapons for the game, I know valve will never add a new weapon but one can hope they do.
17 seconds...
Thats an new record:PP
Thank you for making this video, because I might need this for if I ever want to make a warpaint, since I want to make a warpaint based on the Angelic weaponry from Helluva Boss (despite me absolutely despising the second season).
Hopefully whenever I get my own pc and try to make my warpaint, it doesn’t look like a tacky holiday warpaint or neon color bomb. Thank you again for making this video.
I play way too much CSGO and I love bright saturated skins. Something is wrong with me
My favorite is the Neon Revolution for the AK47 so that should say something. I can't get enough of the party phantom, snowflake swirled, neon-week polter-guised skins
Nothing is wrong with you for liking bright saturated skins, it’s in human nature to find beauty in that.
However in this game you gotta understand it’s within the best interest to preserve the game’s style when making textures for a warpaint
This is perfect, I was wondering how I could start making war paints and this looks like a good video to start with.
for your first video of this style, this is pretty good
Definitely gonna be using this vid as a guide, been looking to get into making tf2 workshop stuff for a bit now
God, i didnt know that a tf2 clipdumper is going to make such a sophisticated and detailed guide! Thank you very much, this video is the golden gem among guides! I've watched it from the start to finish not because i'm a warpaint maker and i need this information but just because its a quality fucking vide o. You've answered all my questions even before i asked them myself, i understood litterally everthing, yet it's the first time i see most of these techiques and programs. Johan, keep on doing the good stuff. You've just entraduced a few houndred more active community members to your channel and to the community of TF2 creators! Thank you! I, myself, am going to try to create something and to do some researches on photoshop.
I am new to texturing in general and the first part of the video is rly dmn helpfull!
Ty m8 for to golden advice, I apreciate it alot!
Something I said about Overwatch back in the day was how similar in body shape and appearance a lot of the girl characters had (with many skins added on top of that) would make it very confusing to know whether you were fighting a Sombra or a Mercy or a baby Dva. Which in the context of Overwatch matters, cuz certain matchups could highly affect the outcome of that fight in the moment. It was the only thing I deeply hated because there would be certain moments I lost because I mistook my enemy for a different character and reacted incorrectly. You could add ten Brigs to the game for all I care, but at least I should know I was fighting a Brig instead of, like, Torbjorn in a dress.
Game recognition in general has to be pretty fucking consistent or else you feel robbed when you lose a fight because of bullshit like that. And I didn't have that problem with TF2 until cosmetics and weapon skins started getting out of hand by making characters seem uncanny and hard to perceive.
Thanks for making this guide Mönkey. Maybe some new talent can breathe fresh air into this game.
9:51
A-posing spy
Note on the saturation part:
The only saturated things in the game are lights
That includes objectives and crits, they always pop out from the desaturated environment!
Never thought I'd see one of my favorite music artist here what
@@joadra6289 Bless u man, I love TF2!
I just had the idea to start making war paints to tf2, this video literally helped me and gave me a boost to create thx for the video mönkey
Nice video. One thing that can help is by adding grunge maps. Could be useful in adding more detail to your base colors or PBR maps.
I believe the lines on wood are called striations. Don't quote me on that though.
As far as I know its called grain.
hell yeah
I feel like most of what Monkey is telling us is simple art and design theory that you'd probably learn in highschool. It's good nonetheless.
I mean some people clearly don't follow these basic guidelines.
Yep, but surprisingly not many people follow these types of unwritten rules when it comes to warpaint making. And I didn’t learn anything bout this in Highschool or in school ever, basically self taught lol.
i actually genuinely want to make a warpaint now after watching this... but still scared doing it wrong because my brain is so smooth that it is dumber, i want to but scared to do it
@@Multitasqing hey man kinda sucking at something is the first step to being sort of good at something
I could listen to you teach me things in educational video form any day
Great guide, lil confusing but it's one of the better ones out there.
Honestly it was confusing to me too. Explaining something that you do out of habit for like 2 years is pretty hard for me to cos I’m like autistic or something idk
@@Monkey_XDD just practice and make an updateded version later on mr apa tf2 :D
Good Guide.
I don't really play TF2. I mostly just enjoy the content that stems from it so this video isn't really aimed towards me. That being said, not only was this a super informative video, it was also entertaining and attention grabbing. Nice work, looking forward to whatever video ya got next ( 'v')b
Excellent job, Monkey!
Really hope this video does well! It was very clear, straight to the point, and honest.
best guide i ever seen
FINALLY A GOOD VIDEO ON HOW TO MAKE A WARPAINT
FINALLY, glad to finally learn how to truly get good.
Heeey, that is pretty good. I wish I had found this a year ago when I wanted to make some War Paints. Maybe it's time to try that out again! :)
Thank you, now I know how I do warpaint
I will use this for making my own war paints with Monster hunter
I hope this inspires true TF2 fans to create awesome warpaints for the game 🙏
15:34 "Striations"
I wasn't very interested in making warpaint myself until now, maybe I should join that discord server
gat damn your warpaint looks like dark chocolate candy. 10/10 would eat
Awesome guide, very helpful!
I cant wait to get my work stolen and for someone to just get the money!
The fact war paints have gotten so bad CZcamsrs now have to makes guides.
Thanks
i always wondered why csgo skins work so much better than tf2 ones (at least the ones we got). csgo skins look like they highlight the weapon more like add contours to edges or add a gradient to the barrel. if i had to compare the two games, csgo skins look like street art, while tf2 skins look like wrapping paper
In the steam guides there is a guide that explains how to make phong mask in GIMP, for those who are interested
Ty
good mann monke
'member to workshop responsibly brothers!
summer 2024 is going to be fire
This really makes me wish TF2 had an "item hider" config file or setting where you could disable the visuals for specific hats, warpaints, unusual effects, and etc. If valve had that and collected info on what got disabled the most, it would really tell them a lot. (Looking at you, lime and pink paints)
about the "unimportant numbers" in the "workshop" folder, unless of course you don't know or don't care, it's actually just part of the link to the page in the workshop of the item itself, meaning you can find one already added by that number. This is for those who have no idea how to find the item they are interested in tf2. aktualy moment but just for your/another people information
That's certainty cool, never knew that.
nice!
You are quite right some War paints can be bad
jesus this guy
Hey Monkey quick question how do you feel about unusual effects? And what are your personal favorites and the ones you hate?
i can finally create a pic of my classmate as a warpaint
I fuck with the tourge dlc ambiant desert backround music, haventheard it used in a vid before
I truly hope workshop skinmakers learn from you.
Some of the more egregious skins looks like somebody took a box-cutter, tore up the carpet of a dirty motel room floor, and slapped it on a weapon.
damn, new vid
Local man with zero (0) accepted war paints makes a guide on war paints
Local?
I LOVE OVERSATURATED GARBAGE
I LOVE TRACED CLIPART
I LOVE COLORS THAT DON'T FIT INTO THE GAME
I LOVE GARBAGE SLOP FROM THE EMPORIUM
Do the TF2 brushes port to Krita as well or do they only work for photoshop
Borderlands 2 Torgue DLC ost!
pacific peacemaker is a borderlands 2 weapon skin
me watching this video knowing damn well mspaint aint gonna cut it
"Not garbage"
They look.. fine?
I asked, and I received!
Can you do one for models and hats? I dont make those, but I love learning about the artstyle!
Any chance you still have the simple version of the pacific peacemaker wood? I'd like to use it myself.
hello sir, can you make an updated version of the grouping/mapping textures guide please
Warpratt
I have feeling that I saw this video before 🤔
The on;y negative thing I can say about this tutorial is that the vast majority of features monkey uses are either only avalabile in photoshop, or have completely different names in other image editing programs. Otherwise good job.
Hey mönkey what’s your viewmodel FOV in-game? Mine is too big and even with minimised it’s too close to the screen even with 90 FOV
Hey, I've seen this one, it's a classic
I mean, by the absolute simplest definition of art (anything created by a person with the goal of expression), you are objectively an artist if you create war paints.
I got a war paint and i feel like : 💀
ABOBA
Do we get paid if valve want our war paint in tf2 ?
Someday I will get to the monkey's Discord link first :")
Hi monke
20:58 100 VOLUME WHILE LISTENING TO WINDROSE????
RAAAGGGGHHHHHH
I know you worked hard with showing an example, but at around 19:02, I have to nitpick at your skin. The part where you put your shells in, I forgot what it's called and I just woke up, should NOT be wood. If it was wood, it would vreak very easily and destroy your weapon, so I would suggest creating a different texture for the receiving part of the shotgun.
You're at mercy of the war paint system, you can't really change where the textures will be placed on a weapon, unless you pick a different template already added in the game.
(well, you can make new templates, but Valve won't add into the game because it takes more effort than a copy and paste job)
@@Anderson-kg5ex ahhhhhh, I did not know Valve was that lazy
