A severe lack of candy corn, skulls, snowmen, and Christmas trees, tsk tsk, valve won't be happy!
In all seriousness it's nice to have a solid warpaint walkthrough that isn't just "download image from google, replace texture, done." You've done some good work with warpaints recently, keep it up!

Somehow I knew you would be here
War paints in tf2 have always seemed like a strange case to me
This ain’t even Great Blue😭😭😭
Bro you aren't a tf2 youtube video's intro.
@@Thomas_Angelo my favourite part of every great blue video is when he closes it with the start to the weapon reskins video

Pro Tip: If you want to avoid seams in your texture work, make sure to enable pattern preview in Photoshop (View>Pattern Preview). This will repeat the texture all around your image so you can catch those seams more easily. Hope this helps you all out!
bro got that "i want you to join the army" intro
For Uncle Fish
Zesty's, Fish's, and Monkey's warpaint/workshop related content gives me life, thank you mr vtuber
I had a dyslexic moment and read the title as: "I Committed War Crimes In TF2 (And How You Can Too)."
no you didn't
you did not
no you did not
While Zesty is certainly harsh, his points are generally good... If a bit exaggerated. Team recognition is important for keeping the game fun and fair, the recent maps have been... Not the best, and warpaints deserve to have higher standards. I feel people take issue with the messanger more than the message.
Yea that’s my biggest problem with Zesty overall. The good points he does have are certainly valid, but the way he presents them makes it extremely hard for me to sit through his videos.
@@winterv.4715 which is fine, everyone has their own video formats. At least you acknowledge that his points, when they are good, are in fact good.
I liked the insertion of Zestys reaction to your first version of dazzle decorated it caught me off guard but was quite funny

NEVER forget what Adobe did to Flash.
free alternatives to photoshop and other Adrobe programs exist.
YOOOO!!! Thanks for showing off my warpaints! (Executive Suite and Western Rose) But to reiterate, as someone who specializes in warpaints and recently got added for the first time this Summer, the best advise you gave was absolutely "just keep trying". I made a lot of duds before I started to get the hang of things, but as long as you have genuine passion and are willing to learn then it's only a matter of time till you start making good stuff.
So a top tip: When submitting include a simple .txt guide in your zip just telling valve what your TGA/VTFs are replacing, you can also request features within it which valve may or may not ignore. And make sure you have your file names sensible as what its named is what will basically end up in the GCF as.
Also should your warpaint actually get ingame, any issues/requested features with that come up ingame valve are very unlikely to fix which is why there is disconnect between workshop submissions and what is actually ingame.
also hello, I'm the one that brought you such hit warpaints as Secretly Serviced, Ghoul Blaster, Gourdy Green, Helldriver and Team Serviced.
@@piesavvy972Thanks for the Service, doc.
Small correction, you only need to clamp all for stickers. Clamp all will work on all stickers including the park pigmented stripes whereas clamping certain dimensions won't. Clamping U while clamping all doesn't do anything.
I could have sworn there was some improper placement when I didn't select all of them during my testing, but I appreciate the correction. At the very least, I don't think this was harmful since I've never noticed any issues with my stickers using this method.
@@fishstickonastick-gaming Or just checking "Clamp T" and "Clamp S", that also works. I know, because I always forget to check it.
Whereas im not interested in designing warpains myslef, it is always nice to see some educational and helpful material.
Thank you Fish FSOAS On A Stick

Bonus tidbit as well regarding GCFScape:
GCFScape is applicable for creating literally any type of mod for source games, because on top of allowing you to view texture files, it also allows you to view the vpks for models and sound files as well, which are necessary to either just learn the directories for sound/texture files that you want to replace, or in the case of models, have the .mdl files necessary to decompile them and use them in Blender. This applies to literally every Valve/Source game, so if you have even the slightest interest in modding anything Valve related, you absolutely, 100% need it.
Very good video. I´m glad you took zesty´s critic and other people critic to heart and that you actually explained how to make something that fits into the game. The best warpaint guide we´ve ever had.
I don't say this as just a jurassic park fan, but Triassic Tinted looks insane. Good job and thanks for the tutorial. 👍
Honestly, this has been very helpful. I may not be new to making warpaints (I have created and posted technically 3 warpaints), but this has opened new possibilities and expanded parts where it was lacking.
All in all, thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you Fishstick for finally showing me how to make my weapons look like sounding rods
this was something I wanted to do but did not know where to start, thank you for this information, heres hoping it turns out well for anyone wanting to try this
Thanks for making a good informative and modern video on warpaint creation fish. Lord knows those soys in the emporium dont want to help people.
I just started wanting to make my own war paint like 2 weeks ago and couldn't find any good tutorials online, thank you mr. fish man
This is really, really nice. Thanks for making this video.
It's nice to have a nice to have a clear and concise tutorial for this. I have been thinking about it more and more as I look at the Halloween warpaints and think that most are just dogshit. I would like to see what I can come up with that's not candy corn or vore inspired.
Thank you man. I can finally make my "luxury lead" warpaint
WE NEEDED THIS THANK YOU
appreciate you for making this
I'm really hoping one of your War Paints makes it into the game in the Smissmas update or maybe next year's summer update. I really like the Jurassic Park one.
Very nice guide there fishstick!
"Recreate the file paths"
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?!
Thank you for this. I might do one for fun.
Damnit fish, now you got me wanting to make warpaints again
GIMP ALPHA: Make sure that in image/precision you set to 32 bit integer(at the top), and remove the alpha channel because you will create a layer mask(set to full white). once you created the layer mask the next image(that you make) pasted will be your alpha which will then be anchored by pressing the green anchor icon that appears(at the bottom right) when you pasted.
i always wondered why csgo skins work so much better than tf2 ones (at least the ones we got). csgo skins look like they highlight the weapon more like add contours to edges or add a gradient to the barrel. if i had to compare the two games, csgo skins look like street art, while tf2 skins look like wrapping paper
About time we got a tutorial from the modern fucking day.
finally a proper warpaint guide.
Fish: Videos like these are made possible by viewers like you
PBS: I see you copied my phrase
Nice video, It could of used some arrows and/or zoom to show important stuff or some background animations to make it feel like you are not talking to us in an empty void, but that takes time and work so I understand why you didn't do that. In reality, it is still a great video and I hope it does well, I'm just providing some constructive criticism so dont take it personally.
Berserk background? Very nice.
THANK YOUUU
Watching a tutorial on something I'll never do is my favorite passion.e
Y'know, with how much community content Valve's added, there's a non-0% chance that community-made weapons will be implemented at some point in the far future; and, if so, that means we're gonna be needing this style of video for how to make wholeass weapons.
Your optimism is appreciated but there is 1 guy working on tf2. (His name is Eric Smith)
Valve has moved on from the game, and since they operate on a “work on whatever project you want to” model, almost all their devs wont be going back to tf2’s source spaghetti 16 year old code when they can be working on new innovations in source 2.
The game hasnt had so much as a weapon stat adjustment since 2017, and since unlockable weapons can be obtained for totally free, theres no monetary incentive to add them like there is for cosmetics.
Oh and Frontline killed all of valves faith in the community to make content beyond skins, hats and maps.
Sorry to burst your bubble there mate.
@@LadZeroUltra Hey, buddy, I'm pretty sure _entire gamemodes_ are a lot more difficult to implement into the game than singular weapons, and Valve's (admittedly, poorly) added _three_ from the community. And said gamemodes are also playable for free, and also automatically invalidate that "no faith in the community to make content beyond skins, hats, and maps" thing.
@@purplehaze2358 Entire game modes are harder to implement, yes. They're also less impactful for the game as a whole, and the balance within them is maintained by their creators.
A weapon is a whole different thing. Any weapon added into the game affects the entire game. You can't choose not to play against a specific weapon. And it needs to be balanced by Valve.
In a way I am kind of glad we aren't there yet because a lot of the communities weapon ideas are... yeah. I would just want someone to make the old panic attack as a community made weapon because while it wasn't good it was funny and I want it back but I also like the new panic attack so I don't want it gone.
full of copium
I have actually done this before to get the feel of making a warpaint and I love making war paints, only problem is I’m 16 so I can’t submit any yet but that’s fine. I just want to get a feel and understand how the war-paints work before submitting.
By the way the art program I used to make the warpaints is a program called Krita it’s somewhat similar to Photoshop but it’s free but doesn’t have all of what photoshop has but for what it does have it works.
good luck tho. Can you link to what you already done?
I've been thinking about making a specific War Paint for a few years but never found a good comprehensive guide on how to. This was GREAT. I'm glad to see all of the helpful comments here as well. I don't know if this video will do well in the algorithm etc but thank you so much for making this video, SUPER helpful!
I'll see if I'll be willing to make war paints after the video
I don't know if there's a way to put on unofficial war paints but I hope someone goes back to that Jurassic Park Ford Jeep because that actually looked quite nice
Even if most people who watch this video in full wont make warpaints themselves, it's good for the average player to know what goes into making a GOOD warpaint, so the shit ones dont make it in the game
Question, should I try to stay away from a Holiday theme because those can turn out ugly, or do I just have to take certain steps to help it look better?
You can do holiday themed stuff, just don't slather stereotypic holiday stuff on it like so many people do
Do the tf2 styled photoshop brushes work in any other program? I'm both too broke and lazy to get it.
"not everything being zingers despite the hours you put into it" is just CZcams for smaller creators like myself. so I won't be too discouraged if I make a shit war paint and it does shit on the workshop.
Waiting for the cloak and dagger episode part4
Bad weapon academy on the Vita-saw when?
When are you gonna make brap weapon academy
Nice Pinkerton wallpaper
I made a tf2 warpaint that Im very proud of but I dont think its properly submitted to the workshop because I dont feel comfortable filling out that tax form from Valve. Is there a way for me to waive my right to compensation and upload my work to the workshop without filling out that form?
That first attempt at making a war paint actually looks pretty good if you ask me.
I am looking for photoshop alternatives. Any advice?
Always dupe your layers and shove them in a folder before flattening
I was actually planning to learn to make a warpaint and this sudden video really helped. 😊
quick question. how do I extract a vtf file as a targa file?
21:59 aye what are we doing over here now?
I wonder if you could have used a gradient to randomize the number that appears on the sticker
I have a problem, My warpaint is in the war paint tester folder under tf and custom and It isn’t showing up in game did I miss a step or something, please help me in the comments!🙏
yo cool

You have tf2 installed on your external hard drive?
Why?
Will this warpaint be in casual
That Wheat guy had a point, Triceratops isn't Jurassic
will I ever try to make a war paint for the game? No.
Do i have any idea what Fish is talking about navigating internal files? Absolutely No
Is the content still great? Yes it is
Paint Weapon Academy
I couldnt find the tf2_textures_dir.vpk file in my tf folder
bad workshop academy when?
This is like Richter's arg vids, they just cannot escape them
I'm waiting for Zesty Jesus reaction.
It in coment
How does one even pirate photoshop? Asking for a friend of course
This video is just Tf2 players passing down the torch of creation for the newer generation of players to come develop for this game, since ain't gone do shit

Honestly I’ve always wanted to try to make a warpaint but I’ve always been held back by the fact that I’m not creative enough lmao

bad warpaint academy when?
In defense of [warpaint]
(Squidward voice) The worst warpaint in the game
Fis how not to get free photos sope
.
We need better warpaints in general tbh
Sadly, I'm too bad at doing anything so there's literally no chance of it even being finished 😅
Finally, I can make shitgun
Eince valve is committed to adding cosmetic and small stuff for right now maybe they could appease that by adding more weapons to the available warpaintable selection.
Absolutely not. Community market and Inventory is suffering from having 47 weapons, with 5 wears and 4 qualities.
8 minute gang
how did bro pirate photoshop
I am the 10 coment
Comment for boost, hope this does well
I'm sorry mate
The workshop is gonna get flooded with horrible warpaints lol
Videos like deez,
Could you sign an item of mine? :)
ZestyJesus's worst nightmare:
you could have at least have some decency to show how to do some of the stuff in GIMP, or drop the whole premise of "nothing that you need will cost you money" since IMO roughly 75% of the video is just "how to use photoshop".
Also pro tip: instead figuring out where game data is, instead, you can just find it in steam library, either right click it in the list/grid or click gear icon on its page, and go to Manage -> Browse local files.
