I had one from madcatz in 2005 and I would troll around with cousins/friends saying that their GameCube broke. One time I actually made someone throw their GameCube away and soon buy another one from a flee market.

I think I saw it in action on an actual tournament where the game reset while playing.
But I don't know if it was that controller or just a random glitch.
I have one that does this. It’s not pretty. Essentially it’s just shorting out the gamecube due to a frayed wire or other malfunction. Scared the crap out of me and made me think my GC was broken lol

Very interesting video, really enjoyed M2K's insight about this, since I don't play at top level & never played Melee competitively, I never realized how important this kind of stuff can be (the only time I felt it mattered to me was for perfect pivoting in Smash 4)
I really like the idea of doing giveaways for the controllers you don't use that often. Like, even from a collector's perspective, those controllers have a lot of history behind them. What'd really be cool is if you also wrote your signature on the controllers or something before giving them away or selling them or whatever.
Has he done a giveaway yet?

Most people I know don't understand nor accept to realize how much can the ingame experience vary depending on the controller's condition in the precise moment you are using it, even with UCF helping it.

It reminds me of tennis. At top level play, equipment does matter.
I play disc golf and you wouldn't believe the number of people that have backup discs in a certain mold and backup backups or slightly beat in to very beat in to brand new etc...

Yoooooooooo, this collection is so amazing!!!!! I am an arcade stick geek/lover/semi collector, and My friend told me that he’s so jealous as he is a GameCube controller collector as well, but He doesn’t have much as M2K and he is jeeealous! But I’m proud of my friend for collecting his cool things!

This is really interesting and great vid. An idea I think you guys try out is having the guys rewatch/review and analyze top tournament sets and just tell stories. But with each other rather than the format you guys did with m2k and salem. Also inviting other top players when they're in the area or other members of the mvg crew when they visit.
I think this could be a good way to implement ways for you guys to combine the competitive with the personalities and insights people really like to get from these kinds of videos.
If you wanna get your hands on a decent GC controller without breaking your bank, try DKOldies. Though since they are original generation controllers, they'll probably have some of the errors listed in this vid. Mine def has the c-stick code problem, but I don't care since I rarely if ever use c-stick.

I play a ton of smash I use A button and direction for all aerials, and actually do tilt inputs to do my tilts. C-stick is set to smash attack, but since I don't play am ooga booga character, it's not like I'm constantly throwing out smash attacks.
Technically speaking, c-stick is completely unnecessary, since every input it's possibly used for can be completed manually. You must not play smash very much if you don't kmow this ;)

I feel like you have way more control and mobility if you play totally manual like that. The C-stick is kind of a crutch for a lot of players.

but since nintendo doesn't produce them anymore i have to buy a used product on ebay, looking for imperfections, ect.
and then after paying for like 20-60 € for a controller i have to pay another ~30€ for import taxes. idk for yall but for me it is a no.

I just play Pokémon,but I try to get a few original GameCube controllers,because there’s no input delay besides the 8 frames of delay on the GameCube I believe. Could be off on frame delay though.
i have a "death" controller, it works on gamecube but if you plug it into a wii, the wii will power off completely. the green power light wont even turn yellow, it wont turn red, the whole wii shuts down completely with no power light as if theres no power source the second you plug in the controller

Keep in mind, one of those white controllers is the one used to 6-0 Leffen.
I have an xbox 360 controller that is really old, worn out, and I've had to fix 3 or 4 times. I tried using it for Melee on Dolphin a few times, and it was unplayable. The sticks are so bad that even with me configuring dolphin to compensate for the enormous center wiggle and position drift, they're so inaccurate it won't do any input reliably.
