  • đŸ’Ș BEN FRANCIS 🩈
We had the great pleasure of sitting down with Ben Francis, founder and CEO of Gymshark.
Ben founded Gymshark when he was 19, while still a student at Aston University. In addition to his full-time commitment to his studies, Ben juggled working as a pizza delivery man to fund his Gymshark venture. In August 2020, Gymshark became the first DTC brand in the UK to achieve Unicorn status (valuation over $1 billion đŸ€‘) with no external capital funding.
Ben recently announced he is returning to the company's helm as CEO as the brand looks to expand in the US and Asia.
This is a special episode with a man generous with his time and advice.

This is one of the best podcast episodes I’ve ever listened to! I need to listen to this again because once wasn’t enough! Such insightful questions were asked and Ben’s humility and transparency is always so admirable

“We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions, that we’ll screw up royally sometimes - understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”
Keep grinding sharing some positivity with ya all

Really enjoyed this interview! It is reassuring to know that other people have difficulty with public speaking and that with patience, self-development and time, skills can be learnt to overcome this - thank you!

Quality. Still being so switched on about his own shortcomings while having the success he has at that age is phenomenal.

“Exceeds expectations and performs greater than the average” I was fascinated to listen to Mr Francis discuss high performance for the reason that 8 months ago I purchased my first pair of Gym Shark “studio” shorts. Having used the shorts only for walking, for 3 weeks, they started to split at the stitching. After multiple, drawn out and frustrating engagements with Gym Shark online (where they did send a replacement pair, credit to them) I wrote a letter to Mr Francis and 3 other members of his senior leadership team at Gym Shark outlining my experience and suggesting where improvements could be made, I then purchased 4 first class stamps and posted them individually to Gym Shark head office. This was back in May, it is now September 17th and despite the letter having all of my contact details, I’ve heard nothing back from Gym Shark, even to acknowledge receipt.
What Mr Francis has achieved at such a young age is remarkable however he himself notes that high performance is in what you DO and not what you say.
Apologies for such a lengthy comment.

So much to take from this. The big takeaway is solid core values that outlast any startup phase 🚀

This is a brilliant episode. Hope Ben goes from strength to strength. Doesn't seem a whiney silver spoon fed corporate brat like a lot of CEO's of big brands, he seems to understand the value of people and has been willing to learn from his mistakes to produce the best results for everyone around him rather than just himself. Unselfish and approachable even in his position, it's refreshing to see.
