    Steve, this is a super introduction to using Zoom, and since I regularly teach groups to use Zoom so we can work together, this 13-minute overview will become part of my pitch. I have a couple of observations that might be of use. 1) I never use Zoom's invitation system to send invitations. I send the invitation to myself (or copy/paste it) and use it to create my own invitation with my email program. This way I have a record of exactly what information each person receives, when it was sent, and who received it. Also, each can easily contact me if there are questions about participation in the Zoom event.
    2) A useful feature for larger meeting is that participants can raise their hand to ask to speak. Curiously, a host or co-host does not have this ability. So, you ask, as host why would I want to raise my hand? Often I may host the meeting, but someone else is chairing the event. Usually, in larger meetings, there is also a 3rd co-host who's job is to monitor the chat field and participant list (like your colleague, April) and keep track of the list of people who wish to speak and issues arising in chat in order to advise the chair. So there are 3 of us co-chairs who cannot raise our hand.

    Thank you for this video! I was just speaking with a client who asked about breakout rooms - we were under the impression it was available only with the paid version - and then you crushed that thought by telling us the feature just needs to be enabled! Yaaaa! This changes the way my client conducts her presentations, and makes a world of difference - thank you!!

    Unlimited time for the paid version is a selling point. However, for a monthly meeting with my model Railroad Club having a 40 minute limit of the presidents presentation is really good. Thank you very much

    As an educator, my main reason for choosing paid was to be able to assign co-hosts. This gives other educators that are on the call the ability to privately message students, mute students, admit students into the meeting, and much more!

    I meet your over 25 years ago when you had your office near the city hall. I moved to Victoria. I have been using Zoom for 4 years in June for one of my Toastmaster Clubs. With my influence and a few others we got Toastmasters International to pick it up and many of their district.
    I like the way Zoom adjusts to a person's connection to their devices and their internet service. If the signal is low it will shrink their picture to use lower bandwidth and even stop sharing the video and just use their audio. I am often in a meeting where the people in the meeting all over the world, where they do not have the luxury of the High-Speed bandwidth we have on the West Coast of Canada. Or you are using your cell phone to be in a meeting. I am impressed with the way Zoom responded to the criticism of their service. The media were still reporting the problems long after they fixed them. I have not seen many honest comparisons between the various option. I have been using online services for over 50 years now.
    We even had a guest join one of our meetings from 30,000 ft over the Atlantic Ocean.

    personally I don't mind a forty minute cap, some folk can talk too much, not me obviously, i just get straight to the point, say what I've got to say, and i'm done, not point in going into too much detail, or saying things that don't need to be said, or covering topics that aren;'t relevant or etc etc :)

    Steve,
    Thanks for the great video. One thing you missed that is important to my situation is that in the paid version you can give meeting participants the option of joining the meeting through their computer or smart device OR call into the meeting using a Zoom provided telephone number. I don’t believe the free version provides a call-in option.

    Hi Steve, thanks for the Zoom series. I have only a free account and I see some of the Participants actions: Hand up, Yes, No, Faster, Slower.
    Also, I notice that you mostly speak about Zoom from the POV of the host, which is great for the organisers of meetings.
    Could we have one please from the participant angle, and maybe some etiquette and tips eg. as meetings get larger, encourage (or request) participants to stay muted unless they are speaking to a topic; tip: have the host running the Zoom side of things separate from the chair of the meeting if possible, to avoid overload.

    The problem that I have is want to have all participants ( 1 or 2) be able to broadcast in 1080p and the only way you can do that is to sign up for a business account, but you have to have a min of 10 licenses at 20.00 per license per month so thats $200.00 per month.
    It would really be nice if they could offer 1080p feeds that did not require 10 licenses.

On my off time I use to do presentations to a local Refugee Center and Rescue Mission. It doesn't look like I am going to be doing in person presentations any time soon, so I need to figure out ZOOM. Hopefully it is similar to WebEx. I have used ZOOM before but never really set up meetings and presented on it. So Thank you for the Video, it really helped make my decision between Free and Pro. HI Steve. I disable the virtual background for my attendees as I find it's very distracting. I have tried to use the broadcast to live option and the latency is SO slow I haven't tried it again. A few other tips is that a) don't by the webinar option unless absolutely needed b) download the video from the cloud and upload to your website or sharing drive (e.g. Google Drive) as you are correct, the 1GB holds only 1-2 hour long videos (again I don't recommend buying more storage) c) I also disable/turn off any additional settings such as polling, breakout rooms etc for NEW users to Zoom as it's confusing to the facilitator and to the attendees. It really depends on the needs of the business. Thanks for sharing your tips. Zoom is the BEST tool out there IMHO unless need something more robust, like WebEx for full online learning, training or engagement.

    Thanks Steve, a good summary. As Jim Cook mentioned, the feature for dialing in by phone (no smart device or internet) was, at the beginning of lockdown, a feature supported by the free version, but is now only available in the paid version. For our meetings we have some that need to dial in, and we provide them the phone number to use (according to the country that they are in). When dialing in they enter the meeting ID and then enter the password to join the call.

    Steve, love your videos. A good introduction to Zoom that every one must have to use it today. May I know if the host can restrict the recoding function from meeting participants as a measure of security ?

    Great video - answers a lot of my questions. I am using the free version - I know how to take a screenshot with save on the annotate bar, when I am screen sharing but how do you take one on Zoom (not through my keypad) when you are not screen sharing .

    Steve, the comments buttons at the bottom of the Participants’ list are available on the Basics version of Zoom. Look online under Non-verbal Feedback.

    Steve, love your videos, my question is, With Zoom, can you capture a list of all the participants that come into your meeting?

    • @asparkoftruth
      @asparkoftruth Pƙed 4 lety +1

      If you have the paid version, you can require that your participants register to get the link. This will give you an email list..

    • @jimremich743
      @jimremich743 Pƙed 4 lety +1

      Steve may have a better way. I have use Screen Shot to do it

    • @asparkoftruth
      @asparkoftruth Pƙed 4 lety +1

      @@jimremich743 you could request everyone to drop their emails in chat and as host the chat is downloaded to your computer or the cloud. The Registration feature is cleaner though and you can require as much or little info from your potential attendees as you wish.

    Thanks for this Steve. Have you done a comparison of Zoom vs Demio? Mainly interested in which one to use for what kind of application.
    Also, if I am doing a DIY demo can I pop a recording into Zoom and then do live interaction after that? Never tried that so just thought I would ask here.
    Can Demio be setup so we can all see each other and conversate like you can on Zoom?
    I'm a long time user of Zoom... one of those early adopter types. I went to Zoom when Microsoft bought Skype and complicated it, basically ruining it.

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  Pƙed 4 lety

      You can insert a video in Zoom, but instead of uploading it to a host(like CZcams) as you do in Demio, you stream it from your computer.

    One big difference between Zoom Basic and Zoom Pro is that you can't run a Webinar on Basic - you should mention that. Because many people just want to do a 'one way' webinar, like a classrrom or streaming a meeting live, where there's no two-way Zoom going on. Have I got this right?
