    The 30mm was the first lens I purchased when I started photography last year, I used it very briefly before I then bought the Sigma 18-50mm which never left my camera. I switched back to the 30mm a few weeks ago and have fallen in love with it. It’s a dream for a beginner like me 🙌🏻

      @@imranpatel4612 If you do even 10% of your shots at 50mm, or a lot of open field (kids soccer game type stuff), then the 56mm wipes the floor with what you get from the 18-50. Sorry Curtis, but the lens is made of plastic - but that plastic is so crazily good, it's easily mistaken for metal. I for quite some time believed my Sigma 56mm F1.4 was metal, too... Beyond, it's a lens with a clear legacy. But when I compare it to the Sigma 56mm, and the latest Sigma DC DN, the 23mm, I think it aged quite a bit. I'd love to see Sigma make an Mk. II version that would be smaller, sharper, and with less CA wide open... For beginners, and when bought on the used market, this lens still is a no-brainer!

    • @CurtisPadley
      @CurtisPadley  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hello thanks for your comment,
      From speaking with sigma this lens is made out of a type of polycarbonate called “thermally stable composite” this material has thermal expansion rate similar to that of aluminium and it also has high affinity to metal parts which contributes to high-quality product manufacturing.
      In terms of image quality if you are pixel peeping you will probably see a slight difference between an older lens and a new one yes. But the difference are indistinguishable out in the real world. I have since taken this lens to Paris where I used it with my A6400 and wow just blown away by this lens again!
      So I think even for semi-professionals this lens is still worth the money not just for beginners.
      That’s just my experiences though being hands-on with this lens and being familiar with a lot of sigmas APS-C glass.
      Have a great evening and appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences using this lens! 🙂

    Short story, I bought this lens when it came out, kept it about a year and really never used it so I sold it. Now that my shooting style has changed I had to rebuy it a couple of months ago. It's basically lived on my camera since then with the good ol Sigma 18-50 2.8 getting a slight load of the work. For anyone looking to do car or street photography, especially at night, then is a MUST HAVE lens in my opinion.

If you're mostly doing cars I think the 30 is a fantastic choice the 56 would be too far for sure, but since I'm trying to do more street portraiture I feel I'd be uncomfortably close lol

    • @Joe-hl2ts
      @Joe-hl2ts Před 23 dny

      The number you're talking about is the F stop, it basically tells you how wide you can open the aperture of the lens which controls how much light is allowed into the sensor. The smaller the number, the wider the aperture and the more light is allowed in.
      In practice this means that the 1.4 lens will be better for night photography as it lets in more light and will give you a really nice blurred background and Bokeh effect that is really popular.
