    I love the new bikes as much as anyone. But I ride an older, ca.2011, Pinarello FP3. Still a head turner today. Recently, I was invited on a group ride with a bunch of fellows, most of whom had very current bikes. Even amidst all these beautiful, expensive, modern masterpieces, everyone was fawning over my "old fashioned" bike.
    50/34 chainwheel, 11-25 freewheel, rim brakes, alloy rims, external cabling, no power meter, no computer. Ha, I love how it's standing up.

    Some very interesting stuff.
    1. The fact no one runs below 7kg, because aero is king.
    2. Enve wheels paired with gp5000 not enve tires.
    3. How some of the best riders are using 30mm and above for gp5000.
    Wider tires becoming the norm are great, much more comfort for ave riders and still quick.

    It s really cool to be in such close proximity to these beautiful machines, always curious about the top level bikes. Your access is impressive, these teams must like and trust you! Does anyone ride Campagnolo anymore? How about the new BMC team bikes? I am still riding a 2011 BMC Racemachine ..but my riding skills hardly even warrants that even that degree of technology!

    • @bikeradar
      @bikeradar  Před 10 měsíci +2

      The teams are usually very accommodating to be fair - they want the publicity for their sponsors as much as we want to cover the bikes, so it kind of works out. But yes, we are very careful with the bikes!
      AG2R are still using Campagnolo - we took a close look at Ben O'Connor's prototype BMC aero road bike, which had the new Campagnolo Super Record Wireless on it, in one of our other videos from this year's Tour de France: czcams.com/video/uKyZq0zxj64/video.html

    The blue Schwalbe Pro One tires should be the new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) tires, which were on display at this years Eurobike 👍 .

    • @bikeradar
      @bikeradar  Před 11 měsíci +5

      Yeah, I wondered if that was the case, but the tyres on Kristoff's bike looked like normal Pro One's other than the blue stripe - the Aerothan tyres ar Eurobike appeared much thinner and had a slightly different tread pattern. It could well be a new/different TPU version of the Pro One TLE, though - hopefully we can find out more soon! Cheers for watching. Simon

    • @bikeradar
      @bikeradar  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah, that's right - the new Shimano Dura-Ace moved from 53-39t to 54-40t with the latest generation and every Shimano-sponsored rider we saw was using those at the Grand Depart.
      Of course, some might switch to a 52/36t or 50/34t for mountainous stages, but also maybe not - given they have access to 11-34t cassettes these days, many won't need smaller chainrings unless it's a super steep climb.

      @1barnet1 all I can say is the pre-face lift version in 54 which you can hardly tell apart, with a lighter dura ace groupo on our scales was 7.8kg, so also equally intrigued how facelift and heavier groupset has led to such a huge weight loss. Must be outrageously light set of wheels and tyres!!

      @LordAus123 and I suppose we must also accept that perhaps the stuff the pros ride isn't quite the same as the stuff we can buy - even if it is the top of the range. I still find it odd that the commentators refer to JV R5 climbing bike they're using, that isn't actually available to the public and doesn't look like an R5....😂😂

    Interesting MVDP's handlebars appear to be 40cm, whilst according to Canyon's website they can be adjusted between 39, 41 and 43cm on the current generation. I don't think he has a non-flex seatpost given his Paris-Roubaix bike also had the seat clamp on the top. If it's going to be a new model, it's quite surprising he'd be the only one riding that bike in his team.

Weird... Don't know if the paint adds a bit? Mine was built from the frameset option and comes with polished carbon finish. Still seems quite a lot heavier? Paint, vittorias, saddle = 0.4kg? I mean my left arse cheek probably weighs more than MvdP, so......😂😂

    Im really surprised to see so many Speedplays, especially Jonas. I don't believe they have a perfect power transition as they are too small.
    Especially in a 3 Week Race it will contract the same small muscles instead of distribute the load to all muscles.

      Hi, in our experience, most brands actually measure handlebars centre to centre at the brake hoods and/or drops. We chose to measure at the brake hoods as that where most riders spend most of their time.
      Cheers for watching, Simon

    those hed wheels must be heavy! i have the same wilier in the same size as cav but i run ultegra, dt swiss 50mm arc 1100 and it is 100 gramms lighter than cavs despite the ultegra.

      Ha the teams were a bit more relaxed on that this year as the bikes were generally a little lighter - last year in Copenhagen, everyone was riding aero bikes with super deep rims and the teams were a bit more hesitant to let us weigh them! Cheers for watching. Simon

    Incredible you can touch the bikes and take the weight 😮
    I would not want that the whole world knows every detail about my bike - especially when i want to win the tour.
    How did you manage to do that mate?
    Do we get some insights about thr TT bikes soon? The Colnago TT1 looks so nice but sadly its not available 😢

      We just ask nicely 🙂Unfortunately we didn't have time to cover the TT bikes this year, as the TT isn't until later in the race and we were only around for the Grand Depart. Cheers for watching. Simon

    You should't measure stem lenghts to the end of the handlebars. F.e. lenghth of MVDP stem is 10cm (maybe 11cm) but definitely not 12cm. It should be measured to the centre of handlebars.
