At the end of 1971 and early 1972 I worked in a nearly deserted 7-11 grocery store in the edge of town working the 3-11P.M. shift. It was dead dark outside and bright inside. With nearly no customers all shift I listened to the radio and anxiously await the birth of our first child. This song played over and over and I loved it. Then January 28, 1972 our Son was born and I will never hear this song without remembering those long nights waiting for my first born to arrive and the joy when I got the call to rush to the hospital. 49 years later it still has the same affect on me.
I love this kind of stories!!!
Great story â€

Perfect. The song is about death of three musicians in 1959 and you managed to keep the voice clean and sad. Not like Madona whoh turned the song into a happy disco. The best cover I have seen so far.
The song is about much more than the death of some musicians.
@@colescott8756 Yes, it is, but it is sad and should remain sad.
Your so wrong. It's about more tha just that. It's about what happened I the 60s
@@AspergersStudio I know, it is about how world changed but it is a sad song, not like Madonna.
It's sad at the start, but wistful at the end. This song came out when I was kid in elementary school, and even at that age, we parsed the meaning endlessly. Somewhere, I have a 1972 newspaper article that my mother cut out that interpreted on an adult level. The adults got more of it than we did, but we kept parsing all the way through high school and got more and more.
The day the music diedâŠFebruary 3d, 1959 in a cold, lonely cornfield near Clear Lake, Iowa. Saddest day ever for music. Thanks for this very beautiful tribute. Just wonderful.
Yeah... I wonder how many listeners here (or even Anne??) actually know much about that story. I mean, I wasn't born yet, but... have taken in the story in various tellings... but I could easily imagine someone having missed it.
You may consider singing Simon and Garfunkel, as they had many songs that were made to be sung as accapella. I believe your voice would be a great marriage to their songs.
So what are you sayin about this one?
Mayortwilleger this song is usually pretty heavy guitar. Itâs good, but imagine how absolutely great it would be for a song designed to work this way.
Is the point they were making
James Smith ya I was thinking pretty much the same thing. I would love Anne to sing some Simon and Garfunkel, it would sound great
Her singing the boxer would complete my life
Sound of silence.
The best part of your videos? That you really look like you're having fun doing this. Not to mention your talent, of course.
Very true
This is the greatest I've ever listened to
I think she is flirting
Most of the time, its not a talent but really hard work and 1000 tries
Well, the clones at least seemed to be having fun.
Love how expressive you are with your face/eyes while you perform.
Yeah, I'd do anything for those eyes. Well, almost ;-).
And the big smile. She is a cutie.
I always go for the total picture and she certainly has it! What a keeper she is!!! I can dream while I am still married, right??
yeah, I was imagine somthing else with her expression
I cannot listen to this song as you sing it, without being incredibly moved. I cry each time. It just so touches my 65 yr old passions so sweetly. It reminds me that we're in a spiritual battle. Thank you.
Beginning on December 19, 1971, this became my favorite song. I heard it on the radio driving back & forth to visit my then girlfriend. I remember it well since it was my first day back home from Vietnam.
I want to THANK YOU for your military service, those were tough times.
Did you marry her?

đYes!!!
Tbh I heard the Weird Al parody as a child and learned it first before I ever even heard the original version
@Anne Reburn oh damn thatâs sweet.
Anne Reburn Don McLean said that sometimes heâd almost switch the lyrics around.
That last line gave me chills. No other cover managed that. This is perfection
Thank you for this beautiful rendition of a great song. I've been listening it occasionally through the years, and I usually do something else while listening to music, but for this one, I lay still and completely set my attention to the song, throughoutly enjoying it
The Clones are Back!
I know, so many clones for this song.
Imagine a whole choir of Anne singing the Gregorian Chants.
Darth Vader approves of this song
Another fantastic episode of Battlestar Galactica!
It would be awesome if she did a video where the clones argued with each other!
Damn I fell in love with this song, I was the shy kid In class but I met my girlfriend on math competition and life was great, I started listening to buddy holly and ritchie valens alnd a lot of other 50s RnR, only song that stuck out was this one, I started listening to it becouse the lyrics and it played on the radio thru my first kiss.
We dont see each other no more.
50's Rock and Roll feals more dead than ever.
They dont spin this record anymore.
I said goodbye to my american pie along time ago.
But these 8 minutes like the first time hearing this song.
Thank you from my heart and soul.
Spectacular, and without ego.
I have listened to ten thousand covers of this classic in the last fifty years and this, THIS is the very first time I have heard one better than the original and one of the rare few that wasn't absolutely wretched. This is perhaps the most over sung far over covered song in American music history and you have done something I don't think anyone has ever done. You've created with your vocal magic my hearing it for the first time ever, all over again! Thank you for bringing back a long dead memory only even better.
It's that same miniminalistic magic as with Anne's other covers. Strip out the overproduction, and the essence comes out.
Amen.
I enjoy your videos that showcase your musical skills. That said, your voice is the first thing I liked about you and videos like this really shows the world how beautiful it is!!
I've always considered "American Pie" to be my favorite song of all time.
You did a really nice cover.
I think if you covered McLean's iconic "Vincent" (Starry, Starry Night), it would turn out very well.
Heartburn? No thank you!
Reburn? Yes please! âșïžđ
I would like to see a cover of "By the waters of Babylon" by Don McClean, as that would really suit the multi tracking you do so well.
John Curtis yessss
John Curtis also check out Jackie Evanchoâs Vincent. Really great! Itâs on youtube
"The church bells all were broken..."
* ding dong ding *
Wait a minute...
I didn't think I'd like a mellowed out version of this song. I thought it would take away the frustration present throughout it, the overtones of lament, the undertones of anger... Instead what you've produced is something with a sweet sentimentality that was never present in the original version. It's gentler, more passive aggressive, and sadder than what McLean arranged, and I think it's brilliant. Bravo, my friend. Bravo đâ€
This lady has a lot of talent. That was wonderful. Thank you.
This video cured my endgame blues. I love you 3000.

"Can music save your mortal soul?" Why, yes. Yes it can.
No. THat's the point of the song. The music has died. But, the Son of God can save one's mortal soul.
@@Joseph120656 "The Music" the song refers to is Buddy Holly. The song is about the turmoil of the 60's and how the first era of rock ended with Buddy Holly's death in a tragic plane accident. Don McLean used religious imagery in the song to express the emotional weight that rock music had in his generation.
@@Joseph120656 lol no
Still only the Love of God has the power to save. All else leads to no good. Adoration of temporal things is not good. Use of temporal things to come to understanding that the only thing that transcends death is the Love of God. Our music and our wealth will die. Though this is among the best renditions I have heard of any music of any genre. What Anne Reburn does is magic.
@@jonathanleonard1152 Please don't pollute this space with that propaganda.
Just one person's opinion. An old person (let's just say that I've been collecting Social Security for 2 decades +). For me, the absolute best cover of this song ever (at least that I've heard).
If Anne Reburn had the Infinity Gauntlet, *everyone* in the universe would be dust by now. Excellent snapping there, Anne!

"Mr Stark, I don't feel so good"...
Absolutely riveting.
This pop song is one of the few that deserves to be called poetry. Layers and layers of meaning, depths to be plumbed...
And you have given us layers and layers, too. I've never heard an interpretation of 'American Pie' that so ably emphasizes the poetic nature of the lyrics. You gave us soft and fragile vocals; what we usually get in covers is more assertive, more forceful, even happy, but all of that runs counter to the poem itself, which is bewildered, full of loss and defeat. In short, yours is the truest interpretation I've ever heard.
4:07 I have listened to this song so many times but that part especially just makes me jump up and cry
Astonishing cover. Probably the best version I heard since the original... And Acapella no less! It was genuinely touching.
Yes! Finally a more recent video! Anne I love your work! You make my life happier Everytime when I hear your work. I love Acapella! I'm not that great at it but I try. Hopefully I'll think about creating a channel soon. Keep singing Anne. đ€ Thank you for making me happy, even if it's just for the moment. It means a lot.
It turned out even more amazing than I would've ever imagined. Finding and supporting you, along with befriending you has been one of the greatest achievements of my life. Words cannot express how much I absolutely love this and all the rest of your work. This song specifically has always meant the world to me, my grandmother used to sing it to me when I was very little and I've loved it ever since, it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, and your version honestly just lights up my heart.
Yep, she certainly is a fresh breeze.
Wow Chris that comment is amazing :-)
Dude, that was the best possible choice for a song for Anne. I never would have thought of an a capella of American Pie. Brilliant!
Love it! I bet she'd do an amazing Piano Man as well!
Just propose already jeez
This is a real masterpiece. So much analysis here to be had. Really love the arrangement, seems more beautiful than the rather sad original, just a flicker of upbeat without overdoing it.
Also the breathing skills required to pull off singing the verses in 1 take, something only a trained vocalist can pull off. They should be using this clip to showcase the technique in schools.
Really liked this one, solid all round production.
We are going to have this song in our Christmas play
Gbsjd
This type of content is one of the most beautiful things of the Information Age. A young singer/actress expressing herself in an original way. We get to directly support her. She is not crushed under the weight of a record company, an entourage, or supporting band. The covers are often as good or better than the original artistâs efforts. Original content written by the artist. I love harmony and a story. No weird custumology, cursing, or other affected content. Selfishly, I hope Ms Reburn never signs a big contract. Kudos
I didnât expect to be blessed today but then I got this notification.. *Since I found your channel I havenât heard anyone sing better than your covers*

I didn't even realize there was nothing but you singing at the beginning, cause I was mesmerized! đ
Yeah by her looks, not her singing because she isn't singing, she's whispering in song.
Not sure if it has been said here, but this song was about the death of Buddy Holly, who was known as the Jester. The King was most likely Elvis Presley. Buddy Holly died in a plane crash and Don MclLean could not understand why God would take someone who pleased many with his music. When you know that back story it is hard to sing it without choking up at the immense sadness that inspired this great work of art. So well done to Anne for doing this cover version.
Graeme Stickings The start and end are about that, but thereâs so much more. The Quartet are the Beatles. Jack Flash is Mick Jagger. The girl who sang the blues is Janis Joppelin.
If you pull out of the driveway at the surf ballroom and turn left, away from the airport, you will follow the shore of Clear Lake. There is what appears to be a levey along the road. Every time I hear this song I remember taking that drive
