It can be gutting to find battery corrosion in your favourite appliance, Nerf blaster or electric monkey. If your battery's leaked, here's what to need to do.
Firstly, get the leaky batteries out! You may need to use a knife or pair of scissors to leaver them out, since the battery "corrosion" may leave a residue which seems to join the battery to the connection points in your battery tray. Shake out the remaining corrosion over a rubbish bin (trash can for you Americans!) If you get any on your hands, it's worth rinsing with water. It won't kill you (unless you eat lots of it!), but it might itch a little if you leave it on your skin for too long!
Secondly, find some cotton buds and some vinegar for an alkaline battery leakage and bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water for an acid battery leak. It's important to match the substance to the type of battery corrosion. You can use something other than cotton buds. They're just useful to get the vinegar to wherever the corrosion is!
Thirdly, put the cotton bud in the vinegar/bicarb to soak some up, and start dabbing and wiping the areas affected by battery corrosion. The leaky battery deposits should fizz as the hard substance reacts with the liquid, producing hydrogen. Repeat until all deposits are gone!
Finally, take a dry cotton bud and dab the area where the corrosion has been removed from dry. Your battery leak has been cleared up!

I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. Thanks to you, kind sir, I was able to "repair" my husband's allarm clock. This is a very special vibrating clock, because he is deaf and when I'm working shifts it helps him to wake up. Today he was feeling blue, but when he saw it fixed he smiled, and that smile just made my day. Thank you!

You should probably wipe it with water or baking soda after using vinegar because vinegar by itself applied to steel will cause rust. If it's not a sensitive microcomputer device or if you can pull out the terminal compartment then a squirt bottle is great for cleaning all the stuff you'll never be able to reach by hand with these jobs.

Duracells are real buggers, most leaks in my set of battery powered devices were caused by them, lastly they ruined my radio controlled alarm clock, after clean up, that I did as in video, they started to work again. For me was that reason to start using more low self-discharge NiMH rechargeables or lithium primaries (mainly for long term emergency standby usage). They both might be not as cost efficient as alkalines in very low drain devices, but they at least never leak unless badly misued or shorted out.
Thanks for video, method shown here worked for me and my alarm clock is running again (now on NiMH) :)

On the off chance that the battery has leaked through to the circuit board... Is there any chance of saving a doll that's mechanical? I got a mechanical doll from online & when it came in the mail a few day's ago... It has massive double AA battery corrosion. I cleaned out the battery compartment thoroughly but still can't get the doll to turn on thinking the double AA batteries might have leaked onto the circuit board... The batteries were falling apart inside the battery compartment when I took them out... 🤦‍♀️ Is there any chance the doll can be saved internally? 🤔😢

Rust is a little tougher. You need to soak the component in vinegar some how. Do this, and you'll get a black substance on the component which you can scrub off. I'm glad you liked it! The extra three minutes were just for you ^_^ What's a VDO? Is that a new musical instrument, like a didgeridoo? I do like progressive new musical technologies! It must be exciting to spell it with all caps. Where can I get one? By the way, your keyboard seems to be broken. It added 'dis' in front of 'liked'. Were you aware of that? Anyway, I hope you get that fixed. We all knew what you meant!
How long have you been a musician for? Did you start on the didgeridoo before moving to the VDO? Is it pronounced ViDOo? Please respond! You do sound exciting ^_^
