“Smoother than the DD1”. Love the new gen base, but let me quickly cry in a corner with my dd1 xD
At least you have that badass Michelin next to your name!
I'll gladly take it off your hands!
Still not better - FW updates will help us along and in the end the differences are a matter of setup I am sure. the CSL DD might be coming out of the box better defaulted. Meh.
First world problems :-)
@@M4rkV3n0m DD1 owner addicted to copiom
I'll never understand how these guys can make such fancy wheels and still to this day have the worst online shop on this planet. How.. why.
What is so bad about their shop I seem to never have any problems
@@okkeboonstra4587 I legit do not understand what all I need to complete this kit/what all is compatible. For example, I think the WRC wheel works with this. But, it doesn't show up when I use their configuration
@@okkeboonstra4587 Its just crazy, you can't buy the things you want without having things you don't want. Like.. I just want a wheel that runs on PC and PS5 and clutch/load cell pedals. They firstly never have stock of the Playstation kit without the silly F1 style wheel and you can't get that with the Load cell pedals. And the wheels don't show up as William said, it's a mess. It's just impossible without spending double the money for a bunch of junk you don't want. Even worse than that last year I had some things in the cart on black Friday and I never could check out, wasted the entire day trying.
Yes!! Finally someone else noticed. Far too convoluted.
It's horrible
There's almost nothing I want to hear more on a Monday morning at work than you saying "better than the DD1." Cannot wait until mine ships. Thanks, mate!

Just a note - the three pronged plug is UK not North America - but a great review none the less
When most reviews are comparing it to the DD1 and the DD2, and not the T-GT or T300 or CSL Elite. It means that it is an infinitely superior product, and that it will be an incredible leap for ordinary fans. Without having to mortgage your house to enjoy it to the fullest.
Well that's also because all those other wheels you mentioned aren't direct drive wheels. But I'm sure people have compared DD wheels with non DD wheels before.
@@High.on.Life_DnB Those non-dd wheels are near this one's price bracket, though, which is why it is a valid comparison.
@@CalculatedRiskAK and you still can. according to many, it's not that superior to csl elite or tm alternative.
You get a tiny bit more smoothness (and possibly detail) while offering a bit ffb power.
Don’t forget with review units and when reviewers work with companies. They also have contractural talking point retirements for their reviews.
So that may also be why you’re not seeing specific things mentioned or compared. It could just be how they want their product reviews structured for their intended markets. Doesn’t always mean is just superior. There is a lot of legal behind the scenes with product reviews from sponsored channels and review units.
in fairness this thing did cost me over 2 grand (cad) by the times i added a wheel, pedals, and had it shipped.
Great review with good honest reactions, can't wait for October & mine to be delivered (with boost), thank you for the review 👍😀
Hey Ermin, great job on everything you do. I noticed in this video, you're a a bit shy of what this servo is capable of. Clipping and loss of fidelity only happens if the green clip flat lines. Up and down spikes can exceed the top line here and there and you will still have the all the nuances given. Fantastic job as always my man.
I think its great news because now game developers will focus more on DD force feedback instead of trying to acccomodate everyone. Raceroom showed the way lately because at least with an SC2 Pro its the best feeling of all now.
I bet they already have a DD1 replacement in the making because you just need more headroom to avoid clipping.
I think sabotaging their own high end is a smart thing because those who bought it may have reason to buy another Fanatec product while otherwise they would have kept their base for years. If they improve higher end with this new motor is probably the next step. Hopefully first though a 10-12 version cheaper than dd1.
CSW DD very likely
Additionally, I think the converse is probably the more important part - they didn't intentionally hamper this wheelbase for the sake of protecting their own high end wheelbases.
@@daviddanser8011 8- 12 nm torque would be perfect
I TRULY HOPE (beyond hope) that a NEW 12Nm power supply will become available for the CSL DD. lol. Pipe dream, eh? but my CSL DD doesn't even get hot, so maybe (squeezes sphincters to oblivion) (However, I have my driver at 70% and ACC below 60%, so I have a LONG way to go to max out 8Nm, and I'll be too old to want it. lol (*cough) "you young whippersnappers!"

Very nice review. You convey your thoughts very well. Keep up the good work!
The combination of my pigeon starved arms and coming from a G920 plus the heaviness of most modern cars steering makes this an awesome upgrade - might even be light enough to mount on the Playseat Challenge.

This is awesome Ermin, really insightful and I'll definitely look to replace my CSL Elite with one. Can I ask - have you had much chance to try it on RF2 yet? I know you're not feeling sooo great about RF2 these days but would be fascinated to know! Thanks

Great review! Thank you for confirming that I made the right choice with the boost kit and the McLaren v2. :) I really can't wait to receive the DD!
An excellent review, thanks Ermin. I am now sold on the CSL DD to replace my beloved 10 year-old Fanatec CSR.
Thanks for the video, I'm glad to hear your report, hopefully getting mine in September with the larger power supply. 👍
I CANNOT wait for this. Definitely treating myself this year
My new favorite youtuber!! Damn keep up the good work !!! Really enjoy your videos!
I've really felt like over the years each firmware update to the DD1/2 has further removed the "notchyness" you feel under low FFB situations ESPECIALLY the more recent beta drivers. I feel like most people that complain about the DD1/2 feeling notchy use really dated firmware versions.
Really enjoying this review as I watch the tracking updates for my csl dd Formula v2.5x and csl pedals
I guess I should wait for the next gen of DD1 as I was planning on picking one up, but if this is better the new DD1 should be game changing
Look at the Asetek Invicta! Holy Sh#%!!! It has such a fast slew rate, it warps you into the future!
Great video Ermin! Gotta start saving up for it soon
Great review. For calibration of shifter, mine (DD1) was off by one in that the Win10 Control Panel software said a different gear to what the display was saying. Go by the display, and one of the buttons on the rim to proceed to next gear.
Yo just stop working out at the gym and 8 NM is perfect!

Also great review man! keepem coming.
i can totally see Fanatec updating their two Podium Wheelbases at some point with the newer motor technology.
i am just happy to have been patient for all that time and now will be making the jump from a t300rs to the 8nm CSL DD and cant wait until my unit will arrive (unfortunatelly its still 2 months away) :(

There will be a new dd1 with that same motor style and it will be epic. It's the center drive motor and carbon shaft that translates better than most. Just wait until theres more power with that design.
Even from the intro there was no chance this was going to be negative review. This guy was fan boying over this thing before he even opened the box lol
Thank you for what you do!
I want to see someone use a beefier power supply to see if you can hit that 10-12 Nm. Would be interesting to know what the max specs are for the internal motor in this case.

Nice review Ermin! You've given me the assurance that I've made a good call in pre-ordering, I'm super excited for mine to arrive! Quick question, what are the overlays / HUD you used for R3E (the radar, radio, timing)?
I think its "Otter hud"
@@KiselMaster Thanks for confirming. Having checked and downloaded, you are right. :)
Very good review mate. Can´t wait to get mine shipped in september. Still driving on a hardly modded G29 which is ok, but doesnt give you the level of immersion you have with a DD Wheelbase. Had the chance to test a DD1 a friend of mine owns for an endurance race and its pretty hard to get back to an gear driven wheelbase, having this experience 😂
We drove the DD1 at around 8Nm, so I think thats pretty much comparable with what the boostkit CSL DD will offer. For me thats enough force, especially for long sessions. The true advantage of DD technology is not the amount of force you can get, but the level of detail it offers. So I think this will do the job very well.
Bang on.
The Ridge Racer OST in the background is underrated
Really nice review. As a user limited to the tablemounted solution and coming from the G29 I'm a bit thorn. I really want the best for the buck and it seems that's the 8 Nm version, problem is that will probably be a bit flimsy on a tablemount..... but ofc, again I have the G29 now so the 5 Nm version will be a big upgrade, and I can go for the boostkit later down the line I suppose.
This thing is crazy small. Insane!
Cannot wait for mine to arrive in Oct
Perfect review!
Just got my CSL DD with the boost kit a couple of days ago and I am a bit disappointed in what they are calling eight Newton meters. The wheelbase I was using was the fanatec CSL 2.5 Belt drive and it feels like it has more torque and more actual motion of the wheel reacting to bumps and force feedback effects.
Still think so 2 months later?
That sounds weird.. have you fiddled anything with the csl dd software?
plz give update i have 2.5 thinking about csl dd as well
Great review. It's a winner!!
I wonder if this means Fanatec may be developing a 2nd generation of DD1 and DD2 now that the new motors have been somewhat proven through the CSL DD??
Now the question is buy a CSL DD or wait for the upgraded DD2, and I'm sure Fanatec knows we'll end up buying both 😂
I'm guessing they'll focus on a midrange offering first, while selling the rest of their Podium stock.
@@Ermz Makes sense, thanks for taking the time to respond! Keep up with the great videos, every single one is better than the last!
@@Ermz I dunno why ppl are so sure there'll be a CSW DD.
@@willielast because it makes sense, 8nm to 15/20 is a big gap, and most csw user now will not upgrade to the csl dd because it isn’t a big enough jump spend that much.
If they release a csw dd 10-14 nm and is a little bit more expensive that will be the most popular dd in the market full stop. It wouldn’t be so expensive as the dd1/dd2 but it wouldn’t be held back by low nm, why would they stop making their mid range products?
I'd be very curious about the the voltage/amperage/tip size of that boost kit psu. It looks like a big laptop psu but costs like a name brand, gold rated, fully modular atx psu?
For those wondering this weighs half the weight of a DD1 and the Thrustmaster T500rs (which I own as well) is half the weight of the CSL DD. I love my DD1 but if your not training and doing track days at you really dont need a DD1. You can add this to a rig build that folds up to put out of the way for less than what a DD1 and wheel cost. The DD1 does NOT come with a wheel. The wheel rims are not cheap either.
How does it compare with the T500? Thinking of replacing mine with a CSL DD
really appreciate the R4 music at the start !!!!!
Just ordered the 8nm DD. Had to sell my whole rig last year inc the Fanatec CSW v2.5. Miss simracing so I bought a new “smaller” setup. Looking forward to feel this 8nm DD with my own hands.
thanks about the heads up with the desk clamp, was planning on that. looking for an affordable way to mount the csl DD with clubsport v3 pedals
I really hope someone is gonna compare the CSL DD to the Simagic Alpha Mini as it is in the same pricerange.
Edit: Also I think the idea of the boost-kit is that it helps budget-conscious people to get into it and have an easy upgrade path.
Great vid man
Does anyone know about some review/test with the CSL DD with 8NM with table clamp on a desk?
Ermin you are such a good content creator 🤩
Hey Ermin. I just got a DD1 last month and I'm not sure exactly what all these details are that you keep talking about. Could you do a video about the details you feel with a DD and how they affect your racing?
I haven’t compared a DD to a DD1 but I’m guessing the extra detail comes from that the DD has lower rotating mass. That means the mass that the DD1 has to rotate is higher that what the DD has to rotate. This is due to the DD1 being bigger and having a heavier shaft. The lower rotating mass will mean that you feel more of the lower forces on a DD wheelbase over a DD1. However some argue that the DD1 is more realistic since real cars also have a high rotating mass with the steering column and all. Hope that makes sense
@@benjaminsall3271 It's the rotational inertia that's important. The mass of the axle won't make much difference. The additional details some people are talking about are most likely because they went with an in-runner motor for the Csl DD.
Great stuff 👌🏻👌🏻
Would love to know how this 8nm DD feels on iracing since I think the low to mid forces are not the best on the DD1/2
So far it feels a bit weak to me
I'd love to see a CSW DD replace the DD1 in the next generation.
The title scared me. Lol so excited for March to get here
Hey man love the review, really in depth and considers all angles, could you potentially upload or share the settings yo used both for the wheel and the in game settings on raceroom and ACC please?
i noticed a few changes with the CSL DD that were made on the sneak, the DD1/2 rubber is gone, a potential solution to the flexing issues, many reviewers now have actually said its a bit smoother aswell... another downside of the DD1/2 when compared to competing bases... its like... its like its a little bit too good, i bet if it had a fan built in it would far surpass that 8nm without issue aswell.
i recently went from a DD1 to a simucube 2 pro and it was quite the eye opening upgrade actually, so bloody smooth and pin sharp quick so no regrets there but i have to give fanatec credit where its due, this is excellent for our hobby and with the inclusion of the QR2 which i can only imagine will knock the socks off the QR1 its going to be one hell of a sim racing tool.
Why would a quick release be so impactful. If people are buying entry level dd at $400 what makes you think they have 5 wheels to interchange to be greatly impacted by QR2? Is there something I’m missing?
@@MissedApproachMagpie well yes... you are missing the part where I said flexing issues. The flexing issues are directly caused by the current quick release due to the natural tolerance required in order to be able to get the wheel on and off, if there was no tolerance you wouldn't be able to remove the wheel reasonably easy so this quick release design means there is a gap, a gap means there is wiggle room, some wheels are worse than others due to the variance in that tolerance which is why some people have bad flex and some people minimal flex.
Flex is particularly bad for a direct drive because you are taking away its main advantage over belt and cog wheels, belt driven wheels for example feel more dampened than direct drives because when the motor moves and the belts take up the slack before delivering it to your hands through the wheel, the belts are very tight but there is still that minor slack in the system meaning the feedback is not instant and direct.
A direct drive has no belts and cogs and the wheel is connected directly to the motor so there should be no slack... that is unless you have flexing in the quick release which will soak up some of that power before it reaches your hands.
Fanatec has one of the smartest and yet worst quick release designs on the market, its super smart because it allows wireless wheels that can be powered by the base meaning you get all the benefits of a wireless system, with none of the negatives like wheels having battery life and limited button inputs over a Bluetooth module but on the other hand it's one of the worst because it lacks solidarity and relies on fragile pins to do the wireless magic.
Hope that explains it.
@@jinx20001 The tolerance issues are because of cheaper manufacturing - the tighter the tolerance, the more expensive it will be to produce.
@@bigredracingteam9642 well im not so sure about that, due to the design there has to be some tolerance, wheels are already pretty tough to take on and off the wheelbase, if the tolerances were any tighter it would make the quick release aspect really difficult, its just not the best QR design really, the rubber is suppose to help with flex by closing that gap in the tolerance when squashed but because its rubber it still has movement in it so its just not great in general as a QR solution and fanatec know it enough they are looking to change it.
“Better than any belt driven unit by fanatec” after I already bought it when you said “better than the DD1” I feel so good about my choice to order it
Cool Review Ermin.. I am interested in the weight savings so that's my angle. I have a full frame motion sim (so everything is moving - but rigid) and the weight the motors must move the platform can be EPIC in Hard Braking into Hard ACCEL. My CSL Elite is pretty heavy, this looks to be lighter. Cost is not really the issue, it's just weight. SO I do appreciate these early reviews.. I subscribed to your channel for stuff like this - So I can make my motion sim better --- DMAX motion sim ch
I currently have a CSL Elite 1.1 that i got for my 1st rig almost a year ago. I have considered the new DD but wasn't sure how much more i'd get out of it. My thinking is that i would find the strength of the FFB to be fine, i don't need to be trying to do a 3 point turn in a Scammell with no power steering. Given this thought i think the 5Nm one would be "strong" enough for me with the option of upgrading to the 8Nm power pack should i decide to at a later date. Your interpretations of the fidelity have, however, pricked up my ears and has taken a step or two forward towards a possible upgrade. I get what you're saying about it just isn't strong enough for you, as it would feel like me turning my FFB off completely. I'd be interested to see a review between the DD and the Elite 1.1as a more favorable comparison. 😄 Great review though.....you might have cost my wife $350 minimum!! 🤣🤣
did you end up getting the 5nm?
Yeah did you get it? I heard it's not that much different than the csl elite 1.1 from owners who had both (which I have on it's way).
Do you have to use the QR system?
I don’t like the play in the QR and feel it would not bothers me one bit if it took 20 mins to change a wheel out.
Are there features that only work with the QR?
Very nice and detailled review. I think that the csl dd (mine was delivered to me today, btw, with the booster of course 😃) it’s just the tip of the iceberg… I expect a PlayStation version, maybe a pro version, and also a full review of their high end equipment (dd1 & dd2), maybe implementing in them the inner driven dd technology, in the next future….
It would be nice to see a compare between this and the simagic alpha mini, that delivers 10Nm, but has an (little) higher price…
They better offer a kit to upgrade to 12Nm!!!!! OMG! The sooner they publicate this, the better!
you got some good arms man💪
i was already sold on buying the wheel from the time Fanatec announced it..but you and boosted media just put me well in the endzone on several other pitches lol
Im upgrading my entire setup from a Logitech G29 to the CSL DD with the boost pack, universal hub and pedals with the brake dampening upgrades. I'm pretty excited to hear that It will be worth the near $1200+ shipping for the new setup.
Got the same wheel and looking to upgrade to a CSL DD. Do you have any updates? I know they're still on preorder
Really enjoyed the unboxing with that Northlane song in the background
I actually have noticed that both you and another reviewer aren't perfectly satisfied with the force of the wheelbase, and all I could think of was my shoulders and back hurting from playing with my G29 for a few hours straight. I feel like this would kill me, but then I don't drive in reality, so I haven't got the muscle development from driving an actual car. So this thing sounds perfect to me lol.
great info about the sticker. Their decal or sticker need to be improve or use 3M quality as their product is not cheap. And also thanks for your honest review. One of the best CSL DD review available. I am glad i get the boost kit and for the record, i watch your video until the end. I really enjoy your review.
I want to see how this stacks up against the sim magic mini.
Are you going to do a FFB settings video for the CSL dd in fanalab and the individual sims? Great vid, made my day as I preordered the base and booster kit!
New here. Thanks for the video, very informative on a lot of what I was interested in hearing about. An observation though, it felt like the talking head segments had audio slightly off sync?
0:31 The BASE ONLY. Without a wheel, or the expensive boost kit; is priced to be mid-ranged.
Ermin, you got me to pay another 500€ to my rig! Your review is what i needed!
Hope you enjoy it!
Can’t wait to save up and get the fanatec DD and some pedals, the g920 gives barely no feedback on ACC and it’s makes the car very nervous feeling all the time. Racing on a knife edge every race haha.
The video, information and review was best out of every other video I’ve been watching I have 1 question now the CSL DD has gone out of stock in Australia in this time will they release it for PlayStation when it is in stock again?
And i bought the DD1 THREE monts ago 😅😅
But i kind of like it as a Workout, so i guess i did make the right descision in the end! I normally run it from 8-10 nm :)
But this is so good for Sim Racing as a whole 😎😎😎
I think you made a good choice. Podium, Clubsport then CSL.
Any issues with your CSL DD like the shaft getting loose inside the wheel base? I'm wondering if that's a common problem...
Like you sad 10-12 nm is the sweet spot, really hope that they bring a Clubsport DD to the market.
Oh it will come out straight after this lol 😂
@@seanmack9207 don’t hold your breath homie
Do you recommend it for lets say touge, drifting, street class races? Because im not in at the full raceing.
Yes it may be the lowest priced DD control unit , but it is the now standard Fanatec Eco system . so the near 500 euro price tag including the boost kit is not for a full wheel and everything else that makes up a setup. once you add their cheaps wheel another 149 euro and basic CSL two pedal set 79 euro shifter 259.95 euro . and a handbrake 129.95 euro all add up to over 1,118.85 euro's .
so it is still way more expensive than all its mid range rivals most that come with a more ready to run out of the box setup.
On the flip side it is of course way cheaper than any any other DD system for a full setup and I am guessing a very good stepping stone into the next gen of Podium DD units that will no doubt use the same new internal design for their Higher end units in the near future.
I am also sure that there will be cheaper ways to build a CSL DD system via buying used Fanatec wheels and pedals as well as a flooded 2nd hand market for Fanatec's old belt driven wheel bases.
Can and will Thrustmaster bring a cheaper all in one box unit to the market or Logitech anything cheaper is going to be most plastic than metal . and for me Build quality for both Thrustmaster and Logitech for a few years now has been a major shortcoming for their products.
bringing DD to a wider market is a good thing for sim racing but I still fears the costs are still to high for most players one a budget.
loved the review thanks
I had all this excitement with my DD1 when i had it dialled in perfectly (for my taste)
25:01 "I feel at one with this thing!" *BONK* the comedic timing is too much xd
"helped me with my terrible driving" as he runs laps ~2 seconds quicker than me at Spa while talking... **sobs** (I'm still on a Driving Force GT from 2004..)
Same man! :D The wheel, and even worse - the pedals - that came with gran turismo 4 is my simracing setup for years now…cant wait to get my hands on the fanatec stuff this winter
I have been running a G27 for years now. If you want to upgrade - DEFINITELY go for a set of LC pedals. (I did Fanatec V3 a few days ago) And the speed and consistency you get with a set of pedals is so much more than a wheel.
lol I recently considered buying the Logitech G923 or Thrustmaster TMX Pro for gaming, however after thinking about them for a few days I went off track and ended up ordering Fanatec stuff instead even though I had not planned to. So now I have the CSL Elite pedal kit with the WRC Xbox/PC wheel on the way, then the CSL DD will be next on the list within the next month or two
What in-game force strength, and which driver setting, did you use for BeamNG.drive with the DD2? Thanks!
so now that the moza R9 9nn is out and getting great reviews even slightly better then the dd what would you recommend. I'm thinking of going moza just because it's actually available to purchase lol
Ok I want one. So booster kit plus pedals, but what steering wheel? I like driving sport scars and F1 cars, therefore I want one with pedals. Which one do you recommend?
What a review!
May I ask....what's the software of that to knowing the FFB clipping?
Many sims have it in-built. Check out my 'Fanatec DD1 & DD2 Force Feedback Guide' video for a detailed explanation on clipping, and how to work with it per-sim.
