That brought back many happy memories. Nearly all British bikes..then the spanish armada came.then fantic turned up and the race was on..all jumping and hopping. And climbs you needed ropes to climb up. Progress yes but I miss the old trials with old trials bikes. Not the trick pre65s you see today..my first trials bike was a old fanny Barnet road bike converted. Then a c15 converted. Then a big hub cota 247..wow it was magic.todays bikes make it feel like an anchor. Thanks for sharing

All great fun. Anybody could have a go. I wish we could go back to those times. Me and my mates called our belstafs bowelstafs. Over the bars..sitting in puddles. Up to our knees in mud. Heaving smelly steaming bikes out of the mud. Sweating. Knackered. Bruses from dabing in the rocks with your knees. Then down the pub and plan the next armegedon

I have to admit, that looks pretty fun. Most guys on adventure bikes these days are too scared to even get them dirty.

I had a Greeves 24TAS in 1969, I wasn't any good at trials but it was heaps of fun. Good times...

On those river bottoms it is hard today not to put your feet on the ground, with the current shock absorbers, tires and light weights of motorcycles!
    Incredible to behold ...

Such a shame they didn't have sound back in the good ol' days, The Kray's must have stolen that too.

Trials and mud go hand in hand. As a lad I was built like a whippet. I had found a ajs 18cs . My first factory made trials bike. When that got stuck it was on with my pre emtive hearnyer belt. Blimey it was heavy. Swaped it for a big hub montesa. Much better until my seat caught fire.

I had a Ossa Mick Andrews replica then a Yamaha 175 in early '70s. It's come a long wat since then. I actually started on a Yamaha DT1, did 2 meets with that first.

When did they start hopping and going up vertical obstacles like today?

I think at the end of the twinshock era. Fantic 200 s light enough to hop about. If you could do it great. I couldn't. So no more trials for me. Then came pre 65. Back at it again. But even that has progressed. We need pre 65 65. I still have them just need a trial to suit them and me

Anyone remember the clober we used to wear? ? I remember getting some high leather workman's boots. Waterproof. Strong enough to remove rocks while walking the section. Then I went to dab and the bloody laces had wrapped around something. In the crap again. Then I got them dunlop rubber boots with the ribs on the front. Could not understand the ribs except for the traction when crawling out of the mud. Had loads of old knackers to ride on. Today they are sought after. Then people laughed as you pushed your new purchase away. I remember I got a rickman montesa with no engine.just happened have a c15 engine so move one tube and extend the rear mount in it went.. looked bloody marvellous. Accept it had no steering under 20mph. I never won anything.but was first back to the van. This film clips has brought back lots of memories.

The trial was held in North Wales, about 20 miles west of Chester starting from the village of Rhydymwyn, it was a Cheshire Centre ACU event in either 1967 or 1968. I was the rider on the Cotton with a red tank.
