Sammy Miller's trials bike history

63 Brooklands Members went to the Sammy Miller Museum Trust on the 29th March 2023. The Museum staff were the perfect hosts.

I've heard so many different versions of "The Sammy Miller Story" this is probably the most accurate. I always believed that Sammy positioned his exhaust to blow the mud from the tread of the rear tyre. A true legend indeed.

Well that's an important difference between a trials tyre and a knobby. A knobby is self cleaning. If you ever rode in clay and had your trials tyres turned into slicks then you appreciate that Sammy might have been onto something.

I did a bit of trials back in the late 50s and met Sammy a few times. He would ride the road sections with at times, his left hand staring from the right handlebar!!
Advice: don't try it😮
