  • We thought we'd have a little bit of fun with iZotope's brand-new version of RX and try to turn some really bad audio into something passable.

    Sounds great in this example. But to be fair, most reverb accidents do not happen with great microphones recorded at close range. Most of the issues I run into are dialogs recorded too far from the microphone. RX can reduce the reverberation a bit, but it doesn't get great. Apart from that, RX is a great and indispensable application.

      True, it can’t magically recover dialog recorded across the room... someday it might.

    And what about some complex audio echoes, like delays (time 1s) of the main vocal? Is it possible?

    I haven’t found dereverb to be useful. On good audio the artifacts are too noticeable, on bad audio it can’t perform miracles.

      It has a lot of low end and not a lot of highs so you want to boost it with eq. The main things I do are compress and eq but I also really like that fresh air plugin by slate on the end of my chain.

      @@MrMoviePhoneEx The most important parts are from Advanced: all dialogues effecs; standard de-reverb for example is not so good :(

      @@GadesChannel Yeah I have advanced version myself. I use it on just about every commercial I work on - still try and avoid de-verb if I can help it though. Mainly use the isolate and some of the other tools to balance things out. Comment was a from a while back, but I think I was trying to say that IZ locks out a lot of functionality between the pro and standard models... Ironically you get it now with the sub, but I havn't gone down that rabit hole yet and still own most of plug-ins. Would love for them get Dialoge Match outside of Pro-Tools, but the latest RX Advance has some similar functions that can get you in the ball park. Cheers.

      @GadesChannel Před 2 lety +1

      @@MrMoviePhoneEx I agree about de-reverb. I found Acon DeVerberate 3 is a quite good, but reverberation in post-production is the last resort anyway. I wish I have Advanced version of RX9, but it's expensive... On the other hand, I don't like the subscription model (I don't make money from voice processing)... Maybe, someday... ;)

    • @MrMoviePhoneEx

      @@GadesChannel keep an eye out for the sales, and know that if you ever do decide to buy in, you can get some amazing upgrade pricing going forward to keep the software current. That said, I just looked and you can't get the price I got for my upgrade anymore (at least currently) so the pricing situation is fluid. Best of luck!

    The video title is a lie. Dialogue de-reverb is only available in RX8 *Advanced*. It's a good function but how much money do you want me to pay for it?

    • @WestlakePro
      @WestlakePro  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the clarification, that's correct - Dialogue De-Reverb is in Advanced only, though with some careful tweaking, I'm sure you can get similar results by combining some of the modules available in RX 8 Standard (which includes De-Reverb). RX8 ADV is ideal for Post-Production, which is why many of the dialogue-focused modules are there. That said, iZotope has great promos pretty regularly, so if you have RX8 Elements (on sale for $19 right now! westlakepro.com/product/izotope-rx-elements-v8/ ) or RX 8 Standard, you can do an upgrade/crossgrade to ADV at a *huuuuge* discount!
