The fact that someone named Andy Wood did a cover of a Layne Era song is awesome in of itself. But the fact that Rooster (which features PEAK Layne Staley vocals) was on the same album as the song Would? ( Which was written for Layne's friend Andrew Wood) Is just awesome. As an AIC fan and a fan of musical history this is just purely amazing. RIP Layne Staley forever the legend. And RIP Mother Love Bones Andrew Wood (figured I'd better put the bands name with him)
Exactly! Honestly I never heard of THIS Andy Wood but it drew me in and here it is! What cool coincidences here! Huge AIC fan since they hit. Especially Layne. RIP
the overlap of everything you just told me goes deeper than I realized! im just a big AIC fan, thank you for this history lesson!
@@andywoodmusic keep up the good work and not a problem at all! My kids love it too which is great because my oldest was born on Layne's birthday which is the 22nd of August so honestly all the coincidence is just amazing and seriously incredible! I told my twitch followers to check it out and they love it too
I worked and partied with Layne and Jerry just before they signed the contract until they quit to go on tour. Needless to say they were my favorite band from Seattle's Grunge era and one of my favorite bands, ever. RIP Layne and Andrew, both of you are truely missed.
Nice
This slaps harder than Will Smith.
Suprized people still talk about that 😂
You should hear the original.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL WOW! Legit made me laugh! Well done
😂
My sister slaps harder than Will Smith
Oh!THAT Rooster! What a song!
@@EVEROSFP1 it’s really a fantastic song.
Killed it my fren!
That brought back my Lalapalooza ATL experience. I thank you for that. I dig it. Great sound.
I hope Jerry Cantrell sees this. That was incredile brother ROCK ON 🎸
Perhaps Jerry heard it before we did? ;)
I’m sure he already has. Andy is pretty well known in the guitar community! Jerry probably follows him honestly

@@jocosaway3676 uhhh I bet you he isn't, check out Andy's originals, smokes anything you could ever even comprehend, let alone play
This version is pure gold.
love it when guitar players honor other guitar players, when it's done awesome like this
Jerry is a legend. 🧡
Got the new album today. This is an absolute monster of an album. This will be played constantly. I truly believe this is the greatest instrumental album I've ever heard. Grand slam, Andy.
He's got some incredible tone!
Came looking for a comment on that tone!
That he has!
This is brilliant. I really like this instrumental version. It's really well done.
@@1stSaintsFan thanks so much brotha!
This is so good that...I forget I'm listening to guitar...I'm just IN it...Very rare, Way to go Andy🔥🔥
thanks so much Tim!!
This was something very Special. Wow!!!
Those tones, those bends, so awesome.
I'm lying here on my back after surgery. My Uncle sent me this video. I am so amazed and all I want to do is get up and move. Such a beautiful to tribute and rendition of an awesome song.
@@KwntnWhat-we8yb this is a helluva post. Heal up my friend, wherever you are. Thank you for the comment, music is powerful stuff🙏🏻
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I just amazed you took the time to read and respond. You and I seem to know 2 people, Geoff and Jim. I was so amazed to see pictures of you 3 together. Thank you again for such a beautiful and tasteful recording.
This took me to places. That's the power of music. Specially great american guitar music: took me to a NY skyline having a good whisky as I admired the city, then it broke down to I driving fast on a LA highway running from a lost love. Then it took me back to my childhood, dreams and hopes. And then to think how far we came as humanity, and a touch of future by the end: where are we going next. Surreal tones out of these Strato and Tele. Been playin guitar from 22 years but generally don't appreciate instrumental guitarrist music, maybe Satriani sometimes. But I definetely am going for this album. A pleasure to meet you Mr. Wood, thanks for this tremendous ride.
@@Danilo-qk2gw thank you for such kind words, I hope you enjoy the new album!
Well said, I've replayed and shared this multiple times and it is the total true feeling music and video thanks again Andy
Everytime I hear this song I think of the 101st airborne division
Andy Wood is the best of the best. He is beyond amazing.
Brother this is one of my all-time favorite tunes. You kill it with taste and style.
Thanks my dude. It’s just a great great song.
This is my all time favorite right now
Cant stop playing this lovely cover and great playing Andy awesome work🎸
Andy proving once again his top-tier status feel and phrasing, not that it was ever in doubt.
All the power of that song was the vocals.
It’s a great song, I disagree. The melody and harmony was equally as important in making this tune as haunting as it is.
@@andywoodmusic Let me re phrase as I also have been performing this for years with a VERY extended solo section, For me the power is in the vocals.
Don’t get me wrong I love painting my own pictures and agreed that melody is addicting but not enough to hold my attention for more then a minute or two then bored. Plus this strikes home for me my father is a Nam vet. That’s the true power of the song for me. At least we have the instrumental version now. You’re the first to the punch congratulations!
How many of you sang while he was playing?
Tasteful and just fuggin masterfully played..! Thank you for keeping a classic alive
Andy Wood is the coolest, baddest, friendliest, most generous guitar virtuoso anywhere to be found. Thanks for this goodness brother! WOW!
This is amazing! I’m sure AIC would approve.
That dirty strat tone is one of the most perfect tones I have heard. I have followed Andy for a long time, so glad he is doing well.
He was playing a telecaster copy for the lead parts! 😂 and a Strat copy for the clean rhythm parts. Yikes. 😂
I wonder what Suhr Strat pickups were used? I just put the v70s in my Strat, super clear and crisp..
@@MrJackal43 Why those parts sounded so good!
Parts Telecaster -is what he is playing. For the attempted heavy lead breaks - He should have had a real Fender Strat, it would have darkened the tone to where it needs to be for this song. The telecaster is too bright and happy sounding.
@@MrJackal43 almost as yikes as lame attempt at being a troll.
Gotta be honest here. Clicked on this, wondering WHO was going to sing this classic timeless song. When it was "a guitar", was disappointed, but still stuck around to see what was what.
F@#k, Wow! Colour me appeased, if not subdued entirely! Stellar!! Epic!! That guitar SINGS!!!
Same here brother! Amazing job!
That wah-wah makin' Kirk jealous...Great rendition!
I’m sure AIC would approve! Outstanding!
Yes!!!! Brought a tear to my eye Andy, stunning version. Layne was totally one of my heros and Jerry is riff demon. 10/10 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The fact that this was made by a guy named Andy Wood, almost makes this video feel like a completed circle.
Intense, beautiful, frightening, brilliant in so many ways!
Sweetness. Pure sweetness.
Best instrumental version on the internet !!!!! Never ever felt absence of vox
@@mettlus thank you! We all miss Layne, and I’d sing it if I could. But the guitar was the best voice I’ve got 🎸

Mr. Wood. I'm born 1973. Goosebumps all over my body... Luv ya
AIC are one of my favourite bands of all time, and i never thought that an instrumental without LAYNE could do any justice, but you have done an amazing job of this song .i get goose bumps every time i play this. thank you ANDY !!!!!!

Layne Staley would be proud my brother... This took me right back to THOSE days
You rock.
That Telecaster is pure magic.

A well-crafted Suhr ad or blazing rendition of Rooster. Perhaps both.
Not a suhr ad, just a love for a legendary song.
Andy is incredibly talented, humble and unassuming. I've had the pleasure of watching him since he was still in high school.

Congratulations on the album drop! That brooding guitar hook mixed with B3 church organ swirl gave me chills!
R.I.P. astronaut William Anders, who took the last image in this video.
Josh on the B3 really gave it an energy.
I miss your music Andy Wood! ❤❤
That wah❤
This is great Andy🔥🤘❤️
Andy Wood, may he rest in peace was the singer for Mother Love Bone. The bass player and one of the guitarist started Pearl Jam when Andy died. Great cover from this Andy Wood
Goose bumps the entire time
I saw suhr guitar I click - never bad this was wildly good and nostalgic - pro player
Way to make it your own. I was looking for the lyrics and not only did you capture those but the overall feel as a whole
Dude this is great on a musical AND visual level! Well done!!
Andy Wood is ultra talented, so I knew this was going to be great. But kudos also to whoever produced the video, often these things end up looking like a high school project, but this was really well done.
absolutely incredible , looove this song . wow !!!
@@michaeledwards1097 thank you so much!
This was bad ass! Your tone is absolutely killer
The reverb makes this version magical and dreamy.
@@ratter531 believe it or not it’s actually delays that spill into each other that creates a sort of fake reverb, it’s nice because it doesn’t cloud the pure guitar sound yet it adds all that fun ambience
@@andywoodmusic Very cool effect.
WTF did I just listen to? This is awesome.
As a fan of alice in Chains for probably over 25 yrs, lover of all things guitar thankyou so much, tasteful and beautiful tones, playing and cool video. It inspired me to get the backing track on and have a blast!. A true yet unbelievable story, today I played this through the site radio whilst we were working on a flat roof and 30 secs in, a black Chicken climbed up the ladder, walked and flapped up some open roof rafters and waltzed across the roof in front of us!! Maybe not 100% Rooster but still.... 🫨
Crazy!! Thanks for the hella good comment!
This song Rocks....
Nice backing track
Never seen, never known, would have never thought. Love this guy!
Awesome guitar playing!
From sideman to main man. What a player!!!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That was epic! I realised suddenly about a minute from the end that there was no singing: The music said so much and the images filled in the gaps.
