- Translating the sub song (片尾曲) "Don't Talk Silly When Love is Strong" (情到濃時休說癡 ) from the New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung 1984 (楚留香之蝙蝠傳奇) into English.
Original Cantonese Song by Liza Wang (汪明荃).
This TVB series which is titled "New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" was released in 1984 and is loosely based on "Chu Liuxiang Xinzhuan" (楚留香新傳 - 蝙蝠傳奇) from Gu Long's (古龍) Chu Liuxiang wuxia novel series. The literal translation of the series title is actually "Chu Liuxiang: Legend of the Bat". For whatever reason, TVB made several changes to the original story line that the series isn't very faithful to the novel. It was only an enjoyable series for those unfamiliar with Gu Long's story. Basically me as a kid.
As for the production, it was big for it's time and featured an outstanding cast supported by an excellent soundtrack. Michael Miu (苗僑偉) put in one of the best performances of his career as Chu Liuxiang (楚留香). He does resemble the handsome playboy type character from the novel. Simon Yam (任達華) put in an equally impressive performance as the villain Bianfu Gongzi (蝙蝠公子). However, his character in this series was changed somewhat to be Chu Liuxiang's equal in both looks, confidence, and martial arts. Whereas in the novel this character is a recluse and is blind. Only his wits are equal to that of Chu Liuxiang. I really loved Barbara Yung (翁美玲) in this series, but I later learnt that her character wasn't in the Legend of the Bat but was created by TVB. So whilst I enjoyed her performance, it was disappointing that her character was just a new invention... Other notable members of the cast included Austin Wai (惠天賜), Sharon Yeung (楊盼盼), Mimi Kung (龔慈恩), and Elaine Chow (周秀蘭).
This sub song which I titled "Don't Talk Silly When Love is Strong" is pretty straight forward. Apologies if it sounds a bitch scratchy but I couldn’t find a better quality track of the song on CZcams. I decided to dedicate the clip to Michael Miu and Barbara Yung. So enjoy...

As usual, they always did a pretty bad job as it sounds so Chinglish. It’s like the Chinese translation on Google, u can find tons of mistakes there. For good translation, we always need to know “ What Lies Beneath “. In other words, we have to understand what exactly the lyrics or the name of that song wants to tell us.
@@barrydemay3348 huh? I translate songs by listening to the lyrics in Cantonese which is the language I speak and then figuring out what English words best describes those lyrics. Whilst I don’t sit down for days on end mauling over the lyrics, my translations are generally correct. Though another translator might make it more poetic sounding, I’m pretty basic
@@barrydemay3348 well except in the old days when they released songs in Hong Kong they had Chinese characters with an English translated title in brackets. Three guesses in relation to which English title was put against this song by the record company… Lol. I generally don’t change titles of songs where a title was already assigned at some stage.
