This TVB series "The Yang's Saga" was made in 1985 and is part of TVB's annual anniversary special. The story is set during the Song Dynasty and is adapted from the many novels and operas titled "The Generals of the Yang Family". These stories normally focusing on the lives of historical characters Yang Ye (who died in 986), Yang Ye's son Yang Yanzhao (958-1014) and Yang Yanzhao's son Yang Wenguang (who died in 1074). Yang Ye was nicknamed "Invincible" (無敵) due to his tactical prowess and unmatched gallantry in battle. As Yang Yanzhao was nicknamed "6th son" (六郎) in history, the stories made him Yang Ye's 6th eldest son. The TVB series was only 6 episodes long and is therefore a condensed version of the Yang Family legend and includes deities and fairies and even features Justice Pao.
As a TVB anniversary special, the cast was quite extensive featuring the "Five Tiger Generals of TVB" which includes Michael Miu (苗僑偉) as the 4th son, Felix Wong (黃日華) as the 5th son, Andy Lau (劉德華) as the 6th son, Tony Leung (梁朝偉) as the 7th son and Kent Tong (湯鎮業) as a Prince. They were the most popular actors of TVB during the 1980's. Other notable cast members included Alex Man (萬梓良), Donald Chow (周潤發), Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), Susanna Au-Yeung (歐陽佩珊), Kiki Sheung (商天娥), Teresa Mo (毛舜筠), Mimi Kung (龔慈恩), Charlene Tse (謝寧), Carina Lau (劉嘉玲), Margie Tsang (曾華倩), Sharon Yeung (楊盼盼), Cathy Chow (周海媚), Patricia Chong (莊靜而), Jamie Chik (戚美珍), Liza Wang (汪明荃), Angie Chiu (趙雅芝), Maggie Cheung (張曼玉), Maggie Shiu (邵美琪), and Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲) among others.
The main theme song which I titled "The Brave Are Invinvble" is a song sang by the late Leslie Cheung. The song sums up what the Yang General Family stood for. Anyway, enjoy...
