Max’ consistency is downright scary; and I don’t think he’s overly concerned about 2024 at ALL. I remember in 2015 when he was literally a boy, and I forget the commentator but he said, ‘this boy is going to be a world champion some day’. 2 P4s in a Torro Rosso, that outstanding overtake in Spa, championship points in his FIRST race he ever finished, and his obstinance (which resulted in a top 5) in Singapore was definitely a harbinger of things to come.
Also Liam Lawson needs a seat.

Oscar had 17 on-track overtakes in Vegas. You could see his tyre management was getting better with every race. He also kept getting the upgrades a race behind Lando. His wet track driving was phenomenal for a rookie. Peter Windsor says Oscar has more upside than Lando due to his born with seat of the pants ability in high-speed corners. I think next year we'll see an even quicker Oscar.

@@ferryfernandus1423 i agree he had a great second half but lando's first half to the season was pretty bad...I'm not saying the car isn't to blame, but he was struggling in it too. Lando also had so many qualifying opportunities when the car was competitive enough to get pole, but due to silly blunders, it was out of reach. We can't forget those moments. For the whole season, Lewis was getting top 9 finishes, except for two races...I think these rankings have a recency bias because even if the last 3 races weren't favourable, he was the main contributor to the p2 in constructors for that team. Thats why I would probably swap him and Lando.

My favorite Max moment in 2023 was actually Las Vegas. He really drove a brilliant race in his typical cheeky style IF you know where to look:
    1. Got a better start on the dirty oil side than Charles on the clean side.
    2. Unlike Fernando, he kept his steer straight when he lost grip at turn 1. Which is the right thing to do. Otherwise, he would have spun like Fernando and his race would likely have been over. Not giving that position back to Charles afterward (who got pushed off the track as a result) and taking the penalty instead might feel like an exploit but that's not Red Bull's fault.
    3. His leading at the safety car ending where he stepped on the gas, made a hard brake in turn 14, and then stepped on it again leaving Charles in the dust, was a classic Max-on-the-edge exploit. Normally you're not allowed to do that but since he was in the middle of a double-corner, he could always defend himself to the marshals he just had to brake there to keep his car on the track.
    4. Under the safety car at the pit lane exit he was busy fighting off Lance next to him. Still, he kept the overview to notice that Ocon outside on track was not paying attention. So he accelerated out of the pitlane, barely keeping his car under control, and overtook him before the safety car line under the yellow flag, which is just plain genius.
    5. His pace on the hards was ridiculous. Even with a broken wing, he was still overtaking the whole field, including his teammate on similar old tires who didn't have damage.
    6. He deliberately made an early brake after overtaking Charles, which prevented Charles on the outside from steering in and ruined his turn-14 corner exit as a result.
    7. To no avail but at the end, he played the teamgame and slowed down to let Checo into his DRS for his defense against Charles.
In short, the Las Vegas race was classic Max, where he extracted every trick from every grey area of the rulebook and combined with his insane pace on the hards, overcame everything that the race threw at him.

Thing with Lawson is that he was in the middle of a very competitive season in Japanese Super Formula (which is much closer to F1 than F2 is for instance). That has helped him to be on form immediately in F1 in my opinion. I'm not trying to take away anything from him, because he did do an amazing job, but it tends to help if you're got the physical fitness and also have the sharpness you only get from actually racing competitively. In comparison Ricciardo lacked that small edge when he got into that AT after sitting out for several months.
I think Ricciardo will make another step (back) next year, being there from te start. Then if Checo doesn't make another step forward in qualifying and races compared to Max, I think Ricciardo might return to Red Bull for 2025 and Lawson will get that 2nd AT seat.

Love the video! But in my opinion, I would put Max first, Alonso second, and Lewis third instead of Lando. I think we're not really appreciating the brilliant season he had due to the last 3 races he had, but c'mon...a pole in hungary, 15-7 race pace with his teammate, top 9 finishes in every race except two. When we also consider his age, not too far off of Alonso, it's impressive, you have to admit. I know people's standards of him are high but how much can you expect a driver to extract in a car thats third or fourth best in the grid. Hamilton was the main contributor to P2 in constructors for Mercedes. Lando had a stellar season too, but many of the times, Mclaren gave him a car that looked as competitive as Redbull and he just wasn't able to completely take advantage of it (even if redbull may outpace them in race pace, in qualifyings, i expected at least one pole by him...) Still lando had a great season, kuddos to both drivers.

@@DavidCP524 But define 'luck'. When it comes to racing, I would say everybody needs luck on their side. I feel like saying he was just 'lucky' is discrediting his skills like race pace, by saying it was just a mere coincidence. Did Alonso get podium finishes at the first half of the season because of luck? Remember in Mexico, when Lewis got the fastest lap in 36 lap mediums with a P2...that is definitely not easy and requires a lot of racecraft and experience. George didn't have a terrible season, because we need to consider his teammate is Hamilton...and Hamilton has much more experience.

I know Lewis had a bad season but he has high expectations of team that they can not achieve. All athletes have a period when they dominate and at some point they go backwards. It happens and one day in the future MAX will have the same. You can only achieve so much and with talent behind they will catch up. We need to think about drivers for the future and Hamillton in my personnel opinion is not in that league. Most drivers retire just before they hit the wall and go backwards. I think he did a good job but he has had so much success he is not used to failing. Most drivers fail at the start of the career and move up the grid and fall back.

i thought piastri pipped lewis.. rookie season, had a sprint win, had some off weekends but that was usually where it was a new track to him which is understandable where as lewis had a couple mistakes and some off weekends also caused a crash on his team mate.. not slating him just thought he didnt shine as much as piastri

Mercedes the best driver lineup, right, disconnect from reality, Lewis crashed and choked and in the grevel more the last 4 years than Max in his whole career, and George? well if he was half as good as he talks he would actually maybe win something.
The only reason Lewis endedup P3 is because Mclaren had a bad start and AM a bad end, if they would have been more consistent Lewis would be P5 at best, this sport is about the details, British holy Lewis bias doesn’t change that

The only reason Lewis ended up p3 is that they had a bad car all year. If he didnt have a bad car, he would have been p1 or p2. The only reason Fernando finished 4th is that the Aston Martin development was trash. He would have been p1 or p2. The only reason Leclerc ended up p5 is that .... do you see where I am going with this?

@@yerrie1908 I am simply pointing out a flaw in your analysis. You want to penalize one drive because the other teams didnt do a good job with their car development. You simply refuse to acknowledge that if any driver had a car as good as Redbull, there is a chance they would have done better than they did. It would be better if you came up with average race stats as evidence to back up your claim instead of using hypotheticals. These rankings are dreams anyway. The best driver finished first, then second and then 3rd and so fourth. Its the reason it is called a race. It determines the true rankings. The best drivers drive for the best team. It seems like I hit a nerve, lol calm down, no ones feelings where hurt except yours, just over simple criticism.
