Great video, you opened my eyes on some aspects, very good details. Also love that you show your controller, so you can see exactly what you are doing.
I don't know if you're going to read this comment or not but I from deep of my heart thank you for this tutorial. I have been a fan of FIFA since FIFA 11, but I have always sucked. I have always lost against average teams and players because I just could not understand how defending works and what you're supposed to do. Some would call me dumb or slow [and I wouldn't really blame them] because it's literally 7 years of playing the game , but I'm not what you would call a gamer. I play a couple of games a day and that's it. I work 8 hours a day and playing this game is the only thing I really look forward to doing when I clock out. I've seen tons of videos but none of them have helped me improve my defending, BUT this video? I've watched it 5 times and I'm now winning against teams in World Class ( I know it's only the AI but still) and getting great defending stats at the end of every match I play in both FIFA 18 and the new 19 DEMO. Thank you so much for whatever it is that made me understand how defending really works.
Yesss. Great to have you back. Your meticulous attention to detail is appreciated. I struggle in div4 atm but aiming for div2 for fifa19, defending is perhaps my biggest flaw, I will watch this vid a few times then try drill it until it’s instinctive.
Perfect Defending tutorial. Sounds so easy when you watch it: watch your own teammates, make use of your own teammates; watch where the player having the ball is moving, watch his teammates an predict his moves/passes. So you have to watch your player, your teammates and their movements, the ballhandling opponent + the other opponents and their movements all at full gameplay speed simultanously, while predicting moves and thinking ahead. Problem is, when I try to defend like you I end up playing even worse and receiving more goals, cause I simply can't do all the things at the same time you do! This defending is really pro player and you have to be one to master it!

Miss you Sotie. I revisited this great tutorial again because I have recently become so terrible on Fifa. I keep making endless mistakes and losing games to stupid goals. V upset and frustrated over a game which is silly, but I love fifa and want to be good. Struggling v badly in div6, I try hard and still lose which makes it worse, I am just going to drill defensive techniques today as I know I make a lot of red runs 😩😩😩
This is great advice and not massively hard, the difficult part is pressuring the ball like Soetie says, without dragging everyone out of position and opening spaces for your opponent, i try my best but there always seems to be a pass available for my opponent. My success comes with 4231 as i have more players in defence then they have in attack so i can close the passes and pressure, but when i get the ball i have no options. Lol so frustrating!!!!

Hey, thanks for the very nice video! I would really appreciate an additional video on how to defend high balls/ crosses. I tend to receive way too much goals from those, so i´m wondering about the best timing and which buttons actually to press and the best positioning of the defender. Also which defensive style is the best? Falling back/ high pressure or something else?

I try to do this since fifa 17 but during the game i felt the gameplay was so fast. Unable to analyze or predict next opponent move properly. I hope soon i can really master this technique.
yeah it takes a lot of concentration cause the gameplay is not always smooth

These are the clips when the predictions work. But people are unpredictable and use a whole lot of different techniques. Sometimes you will predict the pass but the player with pull off a skill move. And try making predictions when the opponent is pulling off tiki taka non stop. Anyways this video certainly had a lot of useful information. Use this info and modify with experience to improve.

Yeah, FIFA does not have a super slow mode, the slow mode is still too fast for me.
What are the pressure/cover buttons to use? Sometimes there is to much space between him and my defender.., btw nice video super Thanks, helps me a lot

Believe me guys. Its all about fast player switching and anticipation (Defense is 80% of Fifa) and of course talent. You need to think fast and read the game fast. That’s something you can’t train. Some Humans are just better in something than everbody else. Accept it. You will never be as good as msDossary. If you reach Gold 3-2 you will always reach so. But who cares. There are more important things in life.

The amount of rage in FUT 19 from people who used legacy defending for years is incredible, they rather bitch & whine about having legacy back than just learning to defend manually. Excellent informative video, well done.

Soetie I’m pure struggling to adapt to this and its leading me to make constant mistakes but I know this is the way forward... how do I get a one on one session???
You dont want to be to agressive in this game,iv found that stamina will be a problem in this fifa love the game have early access and just purchased the ultimate edition havnt played fifa since 17 so have alot of rust :') happy fifa everyone
A attacking and dribbling video would be cool.
Especially when dealing with aggressive hard tacklers and long ball defensive players .
I like to attack down the middle but the ai is too strong this fifa

I always play against people who can switch so easily and quickly , I do it and leave players out of position
