Puppy bleeding right before the nuke dropped is so poetic. One of the dialogues between Laika and Puppy was about Laika's immortality fading away as Puppy got hers, and the former comforting the latter saying she'll finally "be able to live". But once she hears her daughter on the walkie talkie celebrating, she knows it's over for her and her last act of charity will be saving the townsfolk from the nuke. Had Puppy bled a single minute later, everybody would still be saved while Laika gets to rest and watch as her daughter ventures into the world. But we can't always decide our fate. It's a beautiful moral: life isn't fair, but that isn't an excuse not to even try, as life's cruelty is overpowered by the love for one another. Also, Laika's character as a mother itself was brilliantly done. Throughout the game she's overprotective of her daughter and keeps spoiling her with gifts just to keep her from seeing the true colors of the world. Maya is right: she's only making Puppy's life more difficult this way, albeit she's doing it in a good heart. However, you can see deeply she's desperately trying to live her own life as much as she can due to her existence being manipulated as much as it could by the Elder and Maya up to that point, ignoring Puppy's only true wish to find Poochie and travelling far away into the wastelands listening to music by herself. Only too late does she realize her behavior affected Puppy in a negative way, and her last words before sacrificing herself are apologizing to her and hoping she doesn't make the same mistake. The final shot of Puppy paying tributes to her mother's memorial is extremely brief but powerful, as she no longer has an innocent look on her face, rather an apologetic and resigned one, realizing she'll have to grow up herself far later than she should've because of Laika's trauma. It's one of the most realistic portrayals of a single mother I've ever seen in any media, caring about her child more than anything in the world but ultimately trying to stitch her own wounds at the same time. It's incredible how complex Laika's character was given how short the story is, and it should be considered an emblem of the struggles of motherhood and personal wellbeing, two things that often can't go together, having to sacrifice one for the other: Laika's attempt to find a balance between the two weakens her bond with Puppy, although she restores it upon seeing her mistakes and wishes her daughter well. A true testament to the trials a mother has to go through and the unconditional love that both her and her child are bound by. Easily 2023's GOTY.
It's just sad to think Laika never got to give Puppy a real name, and getting blown up by a nuke means Puppy and Maya most likely won't be able to find her scattered remains to put her to rest.

And I'm sure, with such an end, her soul will find its way into the afterlife. Back to her family. The entire idea of inheriting immortality when female members of her bloodline have their period is bold, unique and handled so respectfully. That Laika was forced to have more and more children is awful... But it fits this scenario and shows that there are only a few good people left in this world, no matter the species. At first I though it was a dad and his son, but according to the game's Wikipedia page it's a mother coyoye and her daughter, which is great in my opinion. There aren't many games likes this with a female protagonist
Correction: there aren't many games with a Good female protagonist. Plenty of games, especially RPG genre'd games have either female protags, or the option for the MC to be either. That doesn't always mean they are Great... this was one of the good ones.
Well, this is a MetroidVania, of sorts, and the very first Metroid and the third Castlevania games are both renowned in the 8-bit era for having female protagonists as playable characters.
More than half of all game’s releasing nowadays have female protagonist, definitely don’t need to call for even more. I can name multiple metroidvania games recently released with female protagonist: Ender Lillies, Unsighted, Cookie Cutter, After Image, Bloodstained, Record of Lodoss, Minoria, and on and on
I felt the ending pretty rushed, I did most sidequests hoping for some epilogue or to have some impact in the ending but it didn't change anything. Regardless it was an amazing experience and it easily won me over, the best game I've played this year.
Same! Also did all the sidequests, I'm salty that we didn't got an answer if anyone at the mining town survived but same way I'm also okay with the way it ended
I think the same. I did all the side quest and chosed not to kill all the birds like the joung one (i dont remember the name). I tough i will have a little help by them or a secret cutsene. We need a DLC where we have more gameplay with the birds, not all birds wanted to war.
Exept imperium of man had reasons to be like this. Aliens took advanatage during age of despair and second reason horus heresy. Before horrus heresy imperium was much better.
First time i've seen this game (youtube recomendations) I love the style and how with this game engine you used some simple gameplay tricks but amp them up significantly to have such a stylish and risky combat system. 10/10 yo :D
Just finished the game and it's a beauty.. I shed a tear even! And the bosses are somewhat frustrating but worth it. P.s. is there like a good/bad ending? Still figuring it out after all of that.
Ending feels a bit abrupt. Do wish there was of an epilogue though or even a good ending. I knew as soon as I played the demo. One of them would die and that really bums me out.
Yeah it kinda feels like the devs didnt know how to continue with the plot so they literally "dropped the bomb". I was not expecting good ending but this was kinda rushed imo.
i hate how the last boss has 5x as long dialogue as the fight, it's over so quick. shame, they had an opportunity to do something great with that, but the nuke scene makes up for it
Altough it fits well that the pope and the 2 beak god are weaker as they are more political leaders than anything else, first 4 bosses were war machines/animal hybrids designed to war. Its not logical as in the typical progression of bosses in most games but lorewise is spot on
I did all the side quest and chosed not to kill all the birds like the young one (i dont remember the name that one who didnt want to fight and wanted to die). I though i will had a little help by them or a secret cutsene. We need a DLC where we have more gameplay with the birds, not all birds wanted to war.
So what's up the dead people after each fight? Jakob- makes sense Wolf guy? Buffalo in wheel chair? Bird with tv helmet? What looks like puppy or maybe alfredo? Then laika herself...
I don't know if the author dreamed the story or if he wanted to convey feelings. But I had a dream about a nuclear explosion. Just like in the movies, you stand, you have already managed to come to terms with everything, agreed to death and immediately die😂😂
Honestly the game looks great but i think they need better sound for the bossfights, because theyre really quiet for the action thats supposed to be going on
I wish there was more lore for this game!! Especially about the other characters and factions, I would love to get a backstory on Shaza or Maya. Why all the whales were hunted to extinction, why the birds got so heavily militarized. And why they decided that the mammals below were inferior to their kind to the point of extermination. More information on the Renegade and the normal lives of the birds up in "Heaven." How did the average bird feel about the war? We'll never know D: There's so much unexplored content that Brainwash Gang never expanded upon and that makes me a little sad! I've always loved worldbuilding and lore. At least the music and art are beautiful
I watched this to get help on beating the crab, but it was pure luck you did not get hit by the last red bubble, so I cannot rely on this :D nice video though
True good games don’t rely on good movement like Mario for example, it’s a WOW THIS GAME IS FUN then you beat it and forget, games with emotional story and characters to love and relate to help you connect with the story, god examples are ori, omori, laika, and every other game with deep story and events help you connect. Those are the true good games that give you long lasting thought
From what I've gathered, the red flashes are her loved ones dying. Starting with Jacob obviously. But following with the Hectist, The Elder, Shaza, Alfredo then herself. I assume what's occurring is Laika is, somewhat, aware of what the nuke will do if it drops. Thus why the last flash is herself, unexploded, as she stops the nuke from killing the rest of them. Mind you, that's just me bull$hitting
Beautiful ending, however, I still don't understand why Brainwash Gang went with the hard cut of music from final ending scene to credits, in terms of suddenly changing song. It's so jarring, and kinda kills the very emotional moment.
Why do the bad guys have to be birds though? I love birds and it's annoying how little they're appreciated in media. When they finally show up they're at most side characters.
Ngl, the game was a bit of a disappointment regarding the story and a bit of the boss. The whole family story arc is good, ngl there, but the motivation of the birds to modify themselves just wasn't there. Yeah, there were new enemies as the game progressed but there was no explanation to the where they come from or even a comment about how the new enemies aren't normal birds but no, there was no foreshadowing. To me it just felt like the birds were just the army's remnants of an old, evil, distopic state after an apocalypse. Also, the bosses difficulty just seemed to peak in the ocean zone because after that the pope was easy and the two beak god even more given that it's health bar was purely based on the amount of damage you made to it rather than a pattern. It's enjoyable in general, I just felt a bit disappointed in those two themes.
The story is beautiful, however... gameplay wise its mediocre at best. You fight 5-6 different enemy types throughout the whole game and bosses are too easy. I wish there was more lore to the story too.
game was really good but i though the ending was VERY predictable i kinda knew it when puppy got sick i kinda guess it of course she feels better right after i kill boss couldnt of waited until the bomb blew up hahah
Agreed 27%. I saw the ending just from the trailers/premise, at least in terms of who survives. It's also got a lot of themes that ring hollow with what they criticize and how they present everything.
Most furry games contain so much violence it makes you wonder if the devs don't trust themselves. Edit: after watching the video this game is just fucking weird... aaas expected...
The ending sucked. Why do indy devs always go "NOTHING MATTERS YOU DIED ANYWAYS" route. I want one ONE of them to make it worth playing. I mean come on... We live in a war torn bleak world. Give up at least a glimmer of hope. Stop going down the Ubisoft Farcry route. 😡
I'm playing Lonesome Village right now. It's got furry people and I'll be utterly shocked if it's NOT a happy ending. Otherwise, this game just pisses me off because it's got so many staples of bad game storytelling: 1: Evil army is a strawman of X group. 2: You kill the pope/religion/"god". (also strawmen) 3: Nukes bad mmkay?! 4: HERO DIES BE SAD SHUT UP BE SAD EVEN THOUGH YOU GUESSED IT FROM THE TRAILERS!
The game was great if only it wasn't that painfully leftist. I mean it just hilarious how main heroine and her daughter and her mother doesn't have a father or a grandfather and seemingly multiplying by mitosis or something. And the ending with that kind of Samson Doctrine. It's not about "two-beak god". It's about "star god".
There was a dog neighbor which families' males had curse of becoming insane. As i understand it was totally different family. And there was one more family mother of which was dead and father had curse of crying and weeping every night and not understanding trouble of daughters' menstruation.
Small Saga comes to mind as a good one. And, full intention on being an ass. I think you are just hiding behind snide reasons to diss furry games bro, story is decent, and sometimes mediocrity is a breath of fresh air. The game is fine, stop being a killjoy. XD

Yes, both are female and its an important detail in the game
She's literally female furry Ryan Gosling
Really great game. I also did all the sidequest thinking the ending might change but I'm still okay with how it ended
Same! Also did all the sidequests, I'm salty that we didn't got an answer if anyone at the mining town survived but same way I'm also okay with the way it ended
@@CluestblueI wished we had more time with characters and maybe a couple of more flashbacks
@@Cluestblueyeah. It was really good because of that I think it really need more gameplay for story
I think the same. I did all the side quest and chosed not to kill all the birds like the joung one (i dont remember the name). I tough i will have a little help by them or a secret cutsene. We need a DLC where we have more gameplay with the birds, not all birds wanted to war.
The Bird empire looks like a parody of The Empire of Mankind in Warhammer 40k, But well, is a relief you can give them what they deserve.
Nobody likes the birds, not even the birds like the birds.
@@pteroid11 and that detail i love it.
And it's could be universal homage of Nazi German or other type of empires.
@@RJSnaiperbut like those hideous imperials, the birds are Religious Zealots that hate every non-bird creature in the world
Exept imperium of man had reasons to be like this.
I am not sure tbh. I did all the side quest I think but the ending was always the same to me
Only one ending
There are 2 sides of furry game developers
Cute kawaii wholesome type games
And then there’s this
Well to be fair one of the developers other games is Friends vs Friends, which is very much a cute kawaii wholesome game albeit with some gore.
now im crying because of the ending
Last words hit the hardest tbh.
Я очень жду ДЛС и продолжения…
Спасибо за ролик! Не пропускай подобные игры
Ending feels a bit abrupt. Do wish there was of an epilogue though or even a good ending. I knew as soon as I played the demo. One of them would die and that really bums me out.
The pacing of the latter part of the game felt weird to me and while I liked the ending myself, I do agree that it was a little abrupt.
Yeah it kinda feels like the devs didnt know how to continue with the plot so they literally "dropped the bomb". I was not expecting good ending but this was kinda rushed imo.
@@chobijasMay there's a sequel, about the daughter.
@@damara2268May there's a sequel, about the daughter.
This world have much to offer
I hope so. The setting is very good
i hate how the last boss has 5x as long dialogue as the fight, it's over so quick. shame, they had an opportunity to do something great with that, but the nuke scene makes up for it
Altough it fits well that the pope and the 2 beak god are weaker as they are more political leaders than anything else, first 4 bosses were war machines/animal hybrids designed to war. Its not logical as in the typical progression of bosses in most games but lorewise is spot on
that's the most sadest game i've seen so far and...for unkown raison, i want to cry
0:17 Goddamnit, new radio message. get out of my head Highfleet!
Герой, я сохранил память о нем. Его след будет жить в моем Сердце ВЕЧНО!!!
I did all the side quest and chosed not to kill all the birds like the young one (i dont remember the name that one who didnt want to fight and wanted to die). I though i will had a little help by them or a secret cutsene. We need a DLC where we have more gameplay with the birds, not all birds wanted to war.
So your telling me this games movement is based around using a dirt bike? Fucking coolest shit ever, sign me the eff up
Я не буду плакать, я не буду плакать, я не буду плакать.
Я плачу…😢
So what's up the dead people after each fight?
Jakob- makes sense
Wolf guy?
Buffalo in wheel chair?
Bird with tv helmet?
What looks like puppy or maybe alfredo?
Then laika herself...
I don't know if the author dreamed the story or if he wanted to convey feelings. But I had a dream about a nuclear explosion. Just like in the movies, you stand, you have already managed to come to terms with everything, agreed to death and immediately die😂😂
inwas gonna say we must fight for the MPLA but i acnt becasue of how much im crying right now
Honestly the game looks great but i think they need better sound for the bossfights, because theyre really quiet for the action thats supposed to be going on
I wish there was more lore for this game!! We'll never know D:
There's so much unexplored content that Brainwash Gang never expanded upon and that makes me a little sad! I've always loved worldbuilding and lore. At least the music and art are beautiful
I watched this to get help on beating the crab, but it was pure luck you did not get hit by the last red bubble, so I cannot rely on this :D nice video though
The most badass furry game ever! 🔥🔥🔥
классная игра!!!
Why do furry games like this and Brok the Investigator manage to capture a sad, emotional and sympathetic tone better than most human media does?
True good games don’t rely on good movement like Mario for example, it’s a WOW THIS GAME IS FUN then you beat it and forget, games with emotional story and characters to love and relate to help you connect with the story, god examples are ori, omori, laika, and every other game with deep story and events help you connect. Those are the true good games that give you long lasting thought
And I LOVE Mario
What do these red pictures mean? Flashbacks?
From what I've gathered, the red flashes are her loved ones dying.
Starting with Jacob obviously. But following with the Hectist, The Elder, Shaza, Alfredo then herself.
I assume what's occurring is Laika is, somewhat, aware of what the nuke will do if it drops. Thus why the last flash is herself, unexploded, as she stops the nuke from killing the rest of them. Mind you, that's just me bull$hitting
I tapped out after Pope Melva VIII, that boss was miserable. Idk why they thought it was a good idea to use the rope hook in combat...
Final boss seemed pretty damn anticlimatic.
They didn't want the player to feel frustrated at the end of the road, so, they weren't sure how hard it should be
@@bandoneon_ar At least give him more than one attack that doesn't leave him open to having a third of his health shredded in one go.
I think it has like 3 attacks but they come so slow that doesnt even matter
on the other hand it was great that you could haul off with all your firepower with no invincibility/vulnerability cycles
The gun from friends vs friends was so popular they made a game about it
Un buen juego, aunque demasiado injusto. Literalmente fallar un sólo disparo puede significar empezar desde 0 el combate contra un jefe.
Beautiful ending, however, I still don't understand why Brainwash Gang went with the hard cut of music from final ending scene to credits, in terms of suddenly changing song. It's so jarring, and kinda kills the very emotional moment.
Most likely an oversight. Someone mentioned it was already fixed
Awesome
Lore of Laika: Aged Through Blood - ALL BOSSES + Ending Momentum 100
Curious thing - I didn't found any dutch, Norwegian, Ukrainian and few other languages in game although I see them in credits.
Does the story involve tanks of a troublesome kind?
anyone know what's the ending ost name ?
I think its called I'm Not Gone
What? That’s it?
Sorry, couldn't help but think this is Happy Wheels featuring furries the entire time I was watching. Solid art though.
Goddamn, the crab fight is dogshit
Take That Back, Right Now
F
This game is amazing. But the Ending BLOWS.
It really isn't much of a furry game, it's just an odd convenience that alot of RPG games sometimes have an anthro character as the protagonist
i take back what i said; every sapient being in the game is anthropomorphic
The ending sucked.
Why do indy devs always go "NOTHING MATTERS YOU DIED ANYWAYS" route.
I want one ONE of them to make it worth playing. I mean come on...
We live in a war torn bleak world.
Give up at least a glimmer of hope.
Stop going down the Ubisoft Farcry route. 😡
I'm playing Lonesome Village right now. It's got furry people and I'll be utterly shocked if it's NOT a happy ending.
Otherwise, this game just pisses me off because it's got so many staples of bad game storytelling:
1: Evil army is a strawman of X group.
2: You kill the pope/religion/"god". (also strawmen)
3: Nukes bad mmkay?!
Left is when female hero
Leftist is when single mother/orphan child.
i think they talked about another curse invovling the males in the family aswell
There was a dog neighbor which families' males had curse of becoming insane. As i understand it was totally different family.
And there was one more family mother of which was dead and father had curse of crying and weeping every night and not understanding trouble of daughters' menstruation.
I guess lacking of a father figure is a leftist thing
mediocre story telling im honest. its... allawys the same with furry games
Spiritfarer disagrees.
Small Saga comes to mind as a good one.
And, full intention on being an ass. I think you are just hiding behind snide reasons to diss furry games bro, story is decent, and sometimes mediocrity is a breath of fresh air.
The game is fine, stop being a killjoy. XD
In your opinion.
To me, it's utterly predictable and insultingly cliche.
